Thomas Hill Green (1836-82) was a figure of far-reaching influence, whose doctrines affected British thought and public policy more than any other philosopher around the turn of the century. Green used British Idealism as part of a practical programme of liberal reform. His special combination of moral individualism and collectivism led him to support the growth of the state's responsibility to the citizen, anticipating later developments such as the Welfare State. This volume contains a collection of miscellaneous works by Green, many of them not available in any other form. Here are 15 of his undergraduate essays, many dozens of his letters and speeches, plus several of his papers on moral and political philosophy. The text should be of interest to historians of politics and Idealism in Britain. The material is all reset, with full bibliographies and an index. The author concentrates on White's misogyny as a result of his reaction to his difficult mother Constance, but he equally focuses on the charm of White's other queen, Guenevere. Nothing had more impact on White than his mother, his dogs, and his friendships (though his readings in the history of chivalry are very deep), and this book enables us to see the development of White's monumental and symphonic work.
T H White, author of the much-loved The Sword in The Stone, The Once and Future King, The Goshawk, and many other works of English literature, died in Greece from a heart attack in 1964, aged 57. When the eminent novelist and critic Sylvia Townsend Warner heard of his death she wrote in her diary: ‘T H White is dead, alas! – a friend I never managed to have.’ Warner was invited by White’s executors to write his biography. She visited his home in Alderney in the Channel Islands to see what material was available and felt that he followed her around in his house; ‘his angry, suspicious, furtive stare directed at my back, gone when I turned around’. When she finished his biography, nearly three years later, she wrote, ‘O Tim, I don’t like to lose you … it has been a strange love story between an old woman and a dead man’. T H White. A Biography was published in 1967 and was Warner’s greatest critical success since her first novel, Lolly Willowes (1926). It reveals White’s passions: for life, for learning, for all animals and birds, particularly hawks and dogs; his self-exile to Ireland during the Second World War, the creation of his tetralogy The Once and Future King, and the unexpected wealth and fame that came from The Sword in the Stone, the Disney cartoon and the Broadway musical Camelot. Warner treats White’s repressed sexual predilections with humane understanding in this wise portrait of a tormented literary giant, written by a novelist and a poet. White’s writing on falconry was the inspiration for Helen Macdonald’s acclaimed H is for Hawk.

This is especially true for students in today s higher education who seek ongoing intellectual growth, student life management, and continued lifelong learning.This book provides a framework for decision making before college, during college, and after college. After all, daily student management should be a lifelong commitment; not just an experience, activity, or exercise that illuminates from challenges in our lives. Often, daily life with unanticipated issues, concerns, challenges could be the result of illogical thinking, inessential preparation, inadequate information, ineffective conceptualization, inefficient organization, failure of being proactive, failure in not seeing all the parts of the whole, or personal poor planning. This phenomenon accounts for many students inability to choose major, a minor, or a degree. The management logic matrix introduced in our second Chapter, entitled THINK, (called ZOOOM ) can be an effective and efficient resource for confronting daily these challenges. We use real-life (academic and practical) examples to illustrate the application of our logic model. To broaden practical thinking to academic context, our book includes references for some best practices and lessons learned in the business (private sector) and public administration (public sector). Especially in today s global economy, these challenges fall under all kinds of managing situations particularly in the present economy, we have found that students with limited time, limited resources, and limited support need systematic structures to manage the simplest of tasks as well as other tasks with more compelling complexity.All management challenges require the organization of the resources, the identification of outputs and outcomes, and the measurement of the work completed.
