Yongning Na, also known as Mosuo, is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken in Southwest China. This book provides a description and analysis of its tone system, progressing from lexical tones towards morphotonology. Tonal changes permeate numerous aspects of the morphosyntax of Yongning Na. They are not the product of a small set of phonological rules, but of a host of rules that are restricted to specific morphosyntactic contexts. Rich morphotonological systems have been reported in this area of Sino-Tibetan, but book-length descriptions remain few. This study of an endangered language contributes to a better understanding of the diversity of prosodic systems in East Asia. The analysis is based on original fieldwork data (made available online), collected over the course of ten years, commencing in 2006. Tone Mapping Operators for High Dynamic Range Images

The conversion of High Dynamic Range (HDR) image into Low Dynamic Range (LDR) image is investigated so that the visual rendering of the latter is of good quality. The first contribution focused on the contrast enhancement of the tone mapped image using a piecewise linear function as a non-uniform histogram equalization adjustment to model the "s-shaped" curve of the human visual adaptation. The second and third contributions are concerned with the details preservation of the HDR image on the tone mapped image. Separable and non-separable multiresolution approaches based on essential non-oscillatory strategies, taking into account the HDR image singularities in the mathematical model derivation, are proposed. The fourth contribution not only preserves details but also enhances the contrast of the HDR tone mapped image. A separable "near optimal" lifting scheme using an adaptive powerful prediction step is proposed. Simulation results provide good performance, both in terms of visual quality and Tone Mapped Quality Index (TMQI) metric, compared to existing competitive tone mapping approaches.

Tone Hødnebø var festivalpoet under Nordisk Poesifestival i Hamar i 2022. Siden debuten med Larm i 1989 har hun med sine seks diktsamlinger etablert seg som en av Norges fremste forfattere. Hødnebø har også markert seg med poetikken Skamfulle Pompeii (2004) og har som gjendikter konsentrert seg særlig om forfatterskapene til Emily Dickinson og Anne Carson. I perioden 1990-1997 var hun medredaktør i Vagant, hun har arbeidet med forfatterutdanningen Litterær Gestaltning ved Göteborgs universitet og vært hyppig brukt som gjeste. lærer ved de norske forfatterutdanningene. Hødnebø har mottatt en rekke priser, bl.a. Sultprisen (2003) og Doblougprisen (2005). Hødnebø er en uhyre tradisjonsbevisst lyriker med inngående kjennskap så vel til romantiske som modernistiske formuttrykk. Som flere av sine generasjonsfeller framstår hun som en språk.orientert og .kritisk lyriker, og ofte settes skrivemåter fra svært ulike fagområder opp mot hverandre i diktene hennes.Vitenskapelige og hverdagsspråklige uttrykk står side om side; anekdoter, barndomsminner og filosofiske refleksjoner bringes inn; motsetninger oppheves og drøm og våken tilstand flyter i hverandre i sansninger og erfaringer. Diktene frigjøres fra stabile ståsteder og løser opp enhetlige utgangspunkt for sansning, erfaring, tenkning og skriving. Bidragsytere i denne boken er Hadle Oftedal Andersen, Espen Grønlie, Trond Haugen, Emma Helene Heggdal, Ole Karlsen, Ranveig Kvinnsland, Louise Mønster, Anemari Neple, Knut Oterholm, Staffan Söderblom og Hans Kristian S. This book is a revised version of my Ph.D. dissertation that was submitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983. Although much of the analysis and argumentation of the dissertation has survived rewriting, the organization has been considerably changed. To Paul Kiparsky and Morris Halle, lowe a major debt. Not only has it been a great privilege to work on phonology with both of them, but it is hard to imagine what this piece of research would have looked like without them. (They, of course, may well imagine a number of appropriate ways in which the work could be different had I not been involved .... ) In addition, special thanks are due to Ken Hale, the third member of my thesis committee. Our discussions of a variety of topics (including tone) helped me to keep a broader outlook on language than might have otherwise been the result of concentrating on a thesis topic.

This book provides a start of defining the uni- and multi-phonational tone systems of geographically-connected dialects under a phonation-pitch tonal model. It also demonstrates an interpretation of the contemporary ongoing tonal variations and varieties from the perspective of language evolution. Acoustic data are collected from five adjacent counties on the Jianghan Plain in China, where two varieties of Southwestern Mandarin and one variety of Gan Dialect are spoken. Falsetto and breathy phonations are applied in this area for phonological distinction, and thus the modal-only dialects co-occur with the di-phonational (falsetto and modal) and tri-phonational (falsetto, modal, and breathy) ones. The acoustic and perceptual analyses are conducted to define tones under the Multi-Register Four-Level Tonal Model, a frame considering both pitch and phonation for the definition of tones. The synchronic variations and varieties within and across speakers/dialects are interpreted in the dynamic interplay of tones mainly governed by phonetic and phonological reasons. The inner-system tonal differences of individual dialectal varieties together with the general distributive patterns of tones in this area are evaluated to determine the paths of tone evolution.Fresh for it exploring the definition and linguistic meaning of the dynamic modal- and non-modal tones, the book benefits researchers with data, research methods, and insight and helps the language teachers and learners understand and learn tones with what the lexical tones really are. The book is also written for the readers curious of tones and tone languages.
