Perhaps you have prepared for WTSHTF or TEOTWAWKI with respect to food, water, self-defense and shelter. But what about communication? Whenever there is a disaster (hurricane, earthquake, economic collapse, nuclear war, EMF, solar eruption, etc.), the normal means of communication that we're all reliant upon (cell phone, land line phone, the Internet, etc.) will probably be, at best, sporadic and at worst, non-existent. As this author sees it, short of smoke signals and mirrors, there are three options for communication in "trying times": (1) GMRS or FRS radios; (2) CB radios; and (3) ham or amateur radio. In this book he considers each of these options to come up with the most acceptable one. Included in this volume are the names and addresses of the approximately 14,100 FCC licensed amateur operators in Cities A - L in Virginia, organized by city, then sorted by street, then sorted by house number ... just in case.

Virginia's Confederate government fielded about 150,000 troops in the Civil War. They came from all economic and social levels, including some Unionists and former Unionists. However, at least 30,000 of these men were actually from other states. Most of these non-Virginians were from Maryland, whose government was controlled by Unionists during the war. Another 20,000 of these troops were from what would become the State of West Virginia in August 1863. Approximately 220 military units were formed in Virginia for service in the Civil War. H. E. Howard published histories on about 70 of these units beginning in 1984. Beyond this there are some 50 firsthand accounts available on various Virginia units. We have available Historical Sketch and Roster Volumes on 133 of these units. Once you find someone in this index, check our website to see what other materials may be available for researching the unit. Service records of men from Virginia are available on DVD . These are images of the Service Record cards compiled by the National Archives. The Virginia Civil War Soldiers Index contains 165,700 names. This volume contains men with surnames beginning with L through Z.

These essays explore music and its relationship to language, aesthetics, and culture in the life and work of the preeminent Modernist writer Virginia Woolf (Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, Orlando, A Room of One's Own, and other works). Approaching Woolf from musicology, literary criticism, and gender studies, the collection examines her musical background; music in her fiction and critical writings; and the importance of music in the Bloomsbury milieu and its role within the larger framework of Modernism. Making use of Woolf's diaries, letters, fiction, and the testimony of her contemporaries, these essays illuminate the rich and deeply musical nature of Woolf's works.
