BOOK OF THE BSA (GROUPS B, C & M) 250cc - 350cc - 500cc & 600cc OHV & SV SINGLES FROM 1945 TO 1959
148 pages, 97 illustrations, size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Originally published under the title The Book of the BSA (Groups B, C and M) by W. C. Haycraft this book is one of The Motorcyclist's Library series published in the USA by Floyd Clymer by arrangement with the original publishers Pitman Ltd. of London, England. This re-print of the 15th edition includes complete technical data, service and maintenance information and detailed instructions for the repair and overhaul of the major mechanical and electrical components for the BSA 250cc, 350cc, 500cc and 600cc B31, B32, B33, B34, C10, C11, C11 De Luxe, M20, M21 and M33 single cylinder OHV & SV series of motorcycles from 1945 through 1959 with the exception of the 1954-59 C10L, C11G, C12, C15 and Gold Star models. There is adequate detailed text and diagrams to assist in major refurbishing such as an engine rebuild or even a complete renovation.A GUIDE TO THE VARIOUS 'BOOK OF THE BSA' EDITIONS FOR OWNERS OF POST WW2 SINGLES THROUGH 1970The 10th, 11th and 12th editions published after the end of WW2 were nothing more than a reprint of the 1936-1939 pre-war 9th edition, each one having and additional 50 page 'supplement' covering the post-war models. Due to the superficial nature of these supplements, they were inadequate in providing overhaul and repair information for owners of the post-war models. However, when the 13th edition was published, the entire publication focused on the post-war B, C and M models up to 1954 and the 1936-1939 pre-war section was eliminated. The 14th edition expanded on the years covered, as did the 15th edition which was the final edition to include the post-war C series models. Therefore, the VelocePress re-print of the 15th edition (ISBN 9781588502292) is of the most use to owners of the 1945 through 1959 post-war B, C and M singles. The 16th and 17th editions continued coverage of the later B and M models (only) and the last edition to cover the B and M series was the 17th edition published in 1968. Therefore, the VelocePress re-print of the 17th edition (ISBN 9781588501561) which covers the 1955 through 1967 models is of most use to owners of the later B and M series motorcycles. Finally, the 1954 and later C models received their own specific 1st edition beginning in 1963. This separate publication went through four different editions, each one expanding on the years covered. Obviously, the most appropriate edition for late model C series 250cc owners would be the VelocePress re-print (ISBN 9781588501585) of the 4th and final edition which covers the 1954 through 1970 models.

Florence Helena McGillivray, 1864-1938, was an extremely talented and prolific Canadian artist, and an accomplished educator. She was one of the most well traveled female artists in Canada during the late 19th and early 20th century. Florence's skills as an artist were varied and effective. She worked confidently in many styles and media. The influence of Post Impressionism can be seen in her work, but she was a free spirit, incorporating many different techniques and never attaching herself to any one particular movement.Florence's entrepreneurial and networking skills enabled her to engage many Canadian and international artists for education and mentorship. Well-respected artists including Lucius O'Brien, J.W.L. Forster and F.M. Bell-Smith were among her mentors. Women such as Mary E. Dignam, Laura Muntz-Lyall and Marion Long influenced her work. In Paris she studied with Simon and Menard and was affected by the works of Henri Matisse, Frederic Fiebig and expat Canadian J.W. Morrice.Florence was raised in Whitby Ontario with her thirteen siblings, within a successful and prosperous pioneer family of Scottish decent. She taught art at Pickering College and Ontario Ladies College early in her career before she dedicated herself to her own artistic endeavours. Florence mentored many young artists and offered advice and encouragement to the great Canadian painter Tom Thomson. Her paintings would have an effect on members of the Group of Seven and the development of the Canadian Modernist Movement. In her Time Florence was accepted as an important artist and her works were shown nationally and internationally. she was a member of numerous art associations including Ontario Society of Artists, Royal Canadian Academy, Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, Women's Art Association of Canada, Heliconian Club, New York Society of Women Painters and Sculptors and the international Artists Union. She traveled Canada, United States, Europe and the Caribbean in search of her landscapes. In this biography readers will discover the life and times and artistic accomplishments of this great Canadian artist to establish for themselves her place in Canadian art history.

Introduction to Affine Group Schemes

Introduction to Affine Group Schemes

Ah Love! Could you and I with Him consl?ire To grasp this sorry Scheme of things entIre' KHAYYAM People investigating algebraic groups have studied the same objects in many different guises. My first goal thus has been to take three different viewpoints and demonstrate how they offer complementary intuitive insight into the subject. In Part I we begin with a functorial idea, discussing some familiar processes for constructing groups. These turn out to be equivalent to the ring-theoretic objects called Hopf algebras, with which we can then con struct new examples. Study of their representations shows that they are closely related to groups of matrices, and closed sets in matrix space give us a geometric picture of some of the objects involved. This interplay of methods continues as we turn to specific results. In Part II, a geometric idea (connectedness) and one from classical matrix theory (Jordan decomposition) blend with the study of separable algebras. In Part III, a notion of differential prompted by the theory of Lie groups is used to prove the absence of nilpotents in certain Hopf algebras. The ring-theoretic work on faithful flatness in Part IV turns out to give the true explanation for the behavior of quotient group functors. Finally, the material is connected with other parts of algebra in Part V, which shows how twisted forms of any algebraic structure are governed by its automorphism group scheme.

"Canute began by being a Bad King on the advice of his Courtiers, who informed him (owing to a misunderstanding of the Rule Britannia) that the King of England was entitled to sit on the sea without getting wet." 1066 And All That is a book that has itself become part of our history. The authors made the claim that "All the History you can remember is in the Book" and, for most of us, they were probably right. But it is their own unique interpretation of events that has made the book a classic; an uproarious satire on textbook history and our confused recollections of it: "The first date in English History is 55 BC, in which year Julius Caesar (the memorable Roman Emperor) landed, like all other successful invaders of these islands, at Thanet. This was in the Olden Days, when the Romans were top nation on account of their classical education, etc."
