Meditation empowers us to transcend our material mind-set and touch the Infinite and Eternal."True meditation transforms the way we see reality.... It touches the place inside us where a spark of the Eternal dwells. Meditation unites us with our true Self." from the IntroductionThe life of meditation is much more than the act of sitting for half an hour or forty-five minutes and looking inward. It is a whole way of life. Through meditation we learn to live in a heightened awareness and walk at all times in the presence of God.Rabbi Yoel Glick brings wisdom from personal experience and Eastern traditions to illuminate and vitalize familiar Jewish rituals, vocabulary and imagery. He provides specific guidelines and practical techniques grounded in Judaism for each stage of the life of meditation, outlining the inner processes we encounter and the questions we face: How does meditation help us connect with the Collective Jewish Soul? What happens in our mind, body and soul when we meditate? How do we resist the pull of a material mind-set and live in expanded consciousness? What does it feel like to reach union with our spiritual source? How do we remain aware of God's living presence in our everyday life?"
Fraternal Enemies: Israel and the Gulf Monarchies

Fraternal Enemies: Israel and the Gulf Monarchies

Relations between Israel and the Gulf states are not anything new. In the immediate aftermath of the 1993 Oslo Accords, both Qatar and Oman established low-level yet open diplomatic ties with Israel. In 2010, Ha'aretz reported that the former Israeli foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, was on friendly terms with Shaykh Abdullah Ibn Zayed, her counterpart from the UAE, despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties between the two states. The shared suspicion towards the regional designs of Iran that undoubtedly underpinned these ties even extended, it was alleged, to a secret dialogue between Israel and Saudi Arabia, led by the late Meir Dagan, the former head of Mossad. Cooperation between Israel and Saudi Arabia in thwarting Iran's regional ambitions also casts light on Washington's lack of strategic leadership, which had previously been the totem around which Israel and the Gulf states had based regional security strategies. Jones and Guzansky contend that, at the very least, ties between Israel and many of its Gulf counterparts are now more vibrant than hitherto realized. They constitute a tacit security regime which, while based on hard power interests, does not preclude competition in other areas. Ultimately, these relations are helping shape a new regional order in the Middle East.

Sand, rice, sugar, snow, cement... Although ubiquitous in our daily lives, granular media still challenge engineers and fascinate researchers. This book provides the state-of-the-art of the physics of granular media and recent advances in the field. The book presents the fundamental properties of granular materials: interactions between grains; solid, liquid and gaseous behaviours; coupling with a fluid; and sediment transport and formation of geological structures. Descriptions of the phenomena combine qualitative and formal arguments, coming from areas as diverse as elasticity, plasticity, statistical physics, fluid mechanics and geomorphology. Many examples of the astonishing behaviours of granular media are presented, including avalanches, segregation, dune song and quicksand. This book is ideal for graduate students and researchers in physics, applied mathematics and engineering.

"What is it that attracts so many people to high-tech like moths to light? To comprehend the industry's allure, you must first acquaint yourselves with those exceptional people who are known as 'entrepreneurs.' What is the motivation behind the marshaling of all the forces and the intensive focus of the entrepreneur on his new enterprise? It is not the financial incentive, for money is merely a by-product of success, not the goal. In fact, as far as the entrepreneur is concerned, money is the least important factor at the start of a new undertaking. More than anything else, the entrepreneur wants to make an impact on the world. Perched on the wings of his imagination, desire, and dreams, he searches for the 'next big thing' ". Gun in a battle of knives is the breath taking story of Gilat Satellite Networks, an Israeli company that took on the world with determination and thrust, capability and motivation and thrived to a prominent position in the world in its industry. Real life business thriller and a Biography of a start-up that became a success story that stunned the world, told by one of it's founders and CEO, and the visionary of the group that lead it in the trenches all the way to the top, and was there in the tough hours of the fall. Yoel Gat, 55, received Israeli defense award twice and was the co-founder of Gilat with a team that left with him their unit in the army. Gat was CEO in Gilat since inception in 1987 until he left the company in 2003.
