The local sheriff does not seem to make a fuss about the Eva Chandler case, saying the vanished woman had the reputation of a cougar, she was very rich and dated much younger men on a regular basis. According to the sheriff, Eva most certainly enjoys a secret weekend with her newest boyfriend. However, instinct tells Alex French that there is more to her vanishing. French - who has asked around about the lady - knows that Eva Chandler is not the shallow, easy-going woman townspeople believe her to be, she is a self-made millionaire, a hard-working, serious person.
