Analizzeremo dunque molte serie infinite, in particolare quelle divergenti e alternate, e studieremo i metodi euristici di slittamento, compressione, aggiunta e dilatazione.

Community-Centered Journalism

Contemporary journalism faces a crisis of trust that threatens the institution and may imperil democracy itself. Critics and experts see a renewed commitment to local journalism as one solution. But a lasting restoration of public trust requires a different kind of local journalism than is often imagined, one that engages with and shares power among all sectors of a community.Andrea Wenzel models new practices of community-centered journalism that build trust across boundaries of politics, race, and class, and prioritize solutions while engaging the full range of local stakeholders. Informed by case studies from rural, suburban, and urban settings, Wenzel's blueprint reshapes journalism norms and creates vigorous storytelling networks between all parts of a community. Envisioning a portable, rather than scalable, process, Wenzel proposes a community-centered journalism that, once implemented, will strengthen lines of local communication, reinvigorate civic participation, and forge a trusting partnership between media and the people they cover.

From the 1870s to the 1960s, circuses crisscrossed the nation providing entertainment. A unique workforce of human and animal laborers from around the world put on the show. They also formed the backbone of a tented entertainment industry that raised new questions about what constituted work and who counted as a worker. Andrea Ringer examines the industry-wide circus world--the collection of shows that traveled by rail, wagon, steamboat, and car--and the traditional and nontraditional laborers who created it. Performers and their onstage labor played an integral part in the popularity of the circus. But behind the scenes, other laborers performed the endless menial tasks that kept the show on the road. Circus operators regulated employee behavior both inside and outside the tent even as the employees themselves blurred the line between leisure and labor until, in all parts of the show, the workers could not escape their work. Illuminating and vivid, Circus World delves into the gender, class, and even species concerns within an extinct way of life.

Peasants Wake for Fellini's *Casanova* and Other Poems

This marvelously astute translation of Andrea Zanzotto's poetry brings one of Italy's greatest contemporary poets to English for the first time in over twenty years. The main body of this volume is a unique film poem that grew out of Zanzotto's collaboration with Federico Fellini on the film Casanova. The poem's beauty is enhanced by its presentation in the original Veneto dialect, along with contemporary Italian and English. With reference to Finnegans Wake and utilizing Fellini-inspired myth, the tri-lingual play of the poetry is rich in layers, rich in meanings. Including drawings by Fellini and illustrations by Murer, this volume also contains poems dedicated to Montale, Pasolini, and Charlie Chaplin--and the first English translation of Zanzotto's poetry on the tragedy of Bosnia-- all together in an unusual and beautiful format.Supported by the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, Collegeof Arts and Letters, University of Notre Dame

Richard Rodgers. Miles Davis. Van Cliburn. Itzhak Perlman. Robin Williams, Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone. Mandy Patinkin. For over a century, Juilliard has trained the artists who compose the elite of the performing arts in the United States. Andrea Olmstead's eye-opening history of the conservatory takes readers into the practice rooms, studios, and offices of the world-famous music school and its sister institutions teaching drama and dance. Olmstead's in-depth interviews from across the Julliard community combine with unprecedented access to the school's archives to reveal the school's private side. As she tracks the institution through its various incarnations, Olmstead looks at the accomplishments and foibles of Julliard's leaders and the white-hot controversies surrounding events like Augustus Juilliard's multi- million-dollar bequest in 1919 and the school's expensive move to the Lincoln Center complex. Throughout, she provides vivid accounts of power-brokering, arrogance, intimidation, secrecy, and infighting balanced against the vision, dedication, talent, and determination of generations of gifted teachers, students, and administrators.

How are our lives shaped by the difficult choices of our parents and even grandparents? How will our own choices direct the future for our children? Following generations of one family across nearly a century, each of Andrea Lewis's intertwined, engaging short stories evokes an intense sense of place and time, from New Orleans in 1895 to Grand Isle, Louisiana, during the hurricane of 1901 and on to London during the Olympic Games of 1948. The people in these ten vivid tales face tragedy and real-world catastrophic events—war, hurricanes, the Great Depression, racial tension—in their pursuit of love, family, and belonging. Each character struggles to discover and preserve his or her identity and dreams while grappling with the expectations of family and culture and trying to cope with loss. Some succeed, some compromise, and some fail, but all have a traceable impact on a story to come.

Gendering Modern Jewish Thought

The idea of brotherhood has been an important philosophical concept for understanding community, equality, and justice. In Gendering Modern Jewish Thought, Andrea Dara Cooper offers a gendered reading that challenges the key figures of the all-male fraternity of twentieth-century Jewish philosophy to open up to the feminine. Cooper offers a feminist lens, which when applied to thinkers such as Franz Rosenzweig and Emmanuel Levinas, reveals new ways of illuminating questions of relational ethics, embodiment, politics, and positionality. She shows that patriarchal kinship as models of erotic love, brotherhood, and paternity are not accidental in Jewish philosophy, but serve as norms that have excluded women and non-normative individuals. Gendering Modern Jewish Thought suggests these fraternal models do real damage and must be brought to account in more broadly humanistic frameworks. For Cooper, a more responsible and ethical reading of Jewish philosophy comes forward when it is opened to the voices of mothers, sisters, and daughters.
