A sequence of stunningly simple but haunting poems, Jejuri is one of the great books of modern India. Jejuri is a site of pilgramage in author Arun Kolatkar's native state of Maharashtra, and Jejuri the poem is the record of a visit to the town -- a place that is as crassly commercial as it is holy, as modern and ruinous as it is ancient and enduring. Evoking the town's crowded streets, many shrines, and mythic history of sages and gods, Kolatkar's poem offers a rich description of India while at the same time performing a complex act of devotion. For the essence of the poem is a spiritual quest, the effort to find the divine trace in a degenerate world. Spare, comic, sorrowful, singing, Jejuri is the work of a writer with a unique and visionary voice.
Missionary Christianity and Local Religion

Missionary Christianity and Local Religion

Arun W. Jones

Baylor University Press

The first Christian communities were established among the population of Hindi- and Urdu-speaking North India during the middle of the nineteenth century. The evangelical North American Presbyterian and Methodist missionaries who arrived in what were considered the Hindu heartlands discovered a social and religious landscape far more diverse than expected. With its Hindu majority and significant Muslim minority, the region also proved home to reform and renewal movements both within and beyond Hinduism. These movements had already carved out niches for religious difference, niches where Christianity took root. In Missionary Christianity and Local Religion Arun Jones documents the story of how preexisting indigenous bhakti movements and western missionary evangelicalism met to form the cornerstone for the foundational communities of North Indian Christianity. Moreover, while newly arrived missionaries may have reported their exploits as totally fresh encounters with the local population, they built their work on the existing fledgling gatherings of Christians such as European colonial officials, merchants, and soldiers, and their Indian and Eurasian family members. Jones demonstrates how foreign missionaries, Indian church leaders, and converts alike all had to negotiate the complex parameters of historic Indian religious and social institutions and cultures, as well as navigate the realities of the newly established British Empire. Missionary Christianity and Local Religion provides portrayals and analyses of the ideas, motivations, and activities of the diverse individuals who formed and nurtured a flourishing North Indian Christian movement that was both evangelical and rooted in local religious and social realities. This exploration of new Christian communities created by the confluences and divergences between American evangelical and Indian bhakti religious traditions reveals the birth and early growth of one of the many incarnations of Christianity.

Organizations that apply Generative AI, business intelligence (BI), machine learning (ML), and advanced analytics will unlock trillions of dollars in economic value, reduce working capital and waste, increase agility, and make better decisions.Unlike other sources that may address these technologies in isolation or focus on generic applications, The New Manufacturing Value Chain provides a comprehensive framework that integrates these powerful tools into every aspect of manufacturing, from design to after-market service. It explores the many ways in which ML, AI, BI, advanced analytics, and Generative AI are harnessed to gain real-time visibility into production metrics, equipment performance, and supply chain dynamics. By leveraging cutting-edge algorithms and tools, manufacturers can optimize processes and achieve superior performance. This book will show you how. Its practical approach ensures that readers can immediately apply what they learn to their work environments.

This book is evidence-based and takes into account the modern managed care model in which the current hospitalist practices. The Hospitalist Physician is a relatively new concept within modern healthcare. As this new field evolves, so too will the educational needs of internists who have chosen to practice this discipline. This work is aimed squarely at addressing this need. Internal medicine residency programs in this country strive to equip new grads with a comprehensive set of skills for dealing with both inpatient and outpatient care. However, there remain practice management and workflow nuances that separate the traditional internist from the acute inpatient care physician, or hospitalist. These are the key areas that this work hopes to shed light upon, in addition to highlighting some of the intriguing procedural and critical care elements that hospitalist need to be strong in. It is hoped that this text will enable a physician to respond to the patients’ needs in real time, providing a service which was not possible for busy primary care doctors to perform in the recent past. This book will be used as an 'in-the-field' guide for new hospitalists, focusing on two groups of readers: the new graduate from residency and the office-based internist that wishes to retrain and certify as a hospitalist physician. It is a practical text, with an illustrated procedures section, intended for use as a reference for hospital-based procedures. The Hospitalist will serve as a pocket guide for those intending to obtain rapid information on practice management principles unique to a hospitalist physician.

Tissue engineering is a multi-disciplinary field that is continually evolving and functions through the amalgamation of principles and practices derived from materials science, clinical medicine and the basic biological sciences. The goals of tissue engineering based therapies are to reconstitute the anatomic milieu and physiological function of diseased or damaged tissue in order to improve the poorly functioning target organ. With the advent of new synthetic polymers and advancements in stem cell biology, the combinatorial and/or synergistic effects of these disciplines has greatly advanced tissue engineering as a whole, particularly in the field of bladder tissue engineering. This book focuses on the current state of bladder tissue engineering with a specific emphasis on the use of autologous and allogenic cell sources, as well as biologic and synthetic matrices that influence cell growth and differentiation that can be used for future bladder tissue engineering applications.
