The Enneagram for Moms

The Enneagram for Moms

Beth McCord

Thomas Nelson Publishers

nidottu
Beth McCord, widely known as Your Enneagram Coach, takes women on a transformative journey through motherhood and parenting, blending Enneagram wisdom with practical insights to foster authentic and healthy family dynamics. This book helps moms not only paint a portrait of their family but cultivate resilience, self-awareness, and deep connections with God, their spouse, and their children.Beth unveils a guiding metaphor that brings clarity to the intricate art of parenting: diverse colors on a divine palette, graciously used by God to create the beautiful messiness of family life. These colors represent the unique motivations and strategies reflective of all nine Enneagram Types. This newfound awareness encourages parents to approach their children and themselves with more patience, curiosity, and grace, letting go of the need to "control" certain responses and prioritizing understanding and connection. The Enneagram for Moms will help mothers:discover how their distinct shades already color their parenting approach;gain valuable tools to help their children navigate their own emotional landscapes with self-awareness and resilience and communicate in healthy ways;see themselves and their children as God intends, breaking free from the cycles of mommy shaming and mommy guilting;recognize that each child already possesses a unique blend of colors, reflecting God's infinitely beautiful design;find healing for their emotional patterns and personality, allowing them to be healthy and positive influences in their children's lives; andbring healing to their wounded stories so they can break generational dysfunction and cycles. This essential resource speaks directly to the heart of every mother, caregiver, or concerned adult seeking guidance, peace, and healthy parent-child relationships. Moms no longer need to strive for perfection or conform to society's expectations or their own insecure standards of comparison. Instead, they can rely on God's providence and guidance while offering support to each family member as they grow more firmly into the unique person they were created to be.

Women Performing Music

Women Performing Music

Beth Abelson Macleod

pokkari
This book explores the experiences of women from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who pursued careers as public performers, charting a new course in an era when women's musical activities were generally consigned to the parlor. Certain instruments had historically evolved as "appropriate for women," and the flamboyant personalities and extroverted emotionalism of Romantic virtuosos and conductors were the antithesis of those qualities traditionally admired in women. However, this work presents an unusual group of young women who nonetheless became noted virtuosos, studying abroad as teenagers and touring North America upon their return. Detailed profiles are given of three remarkable musicians from among that unusual group: Fannie Bloomfield-Zeisler (1863-1927)--virtuoso pianist, wife and mother; Ethel Leginska (1886-1970)--pianist, conductor, and 1920s "new woman"; and Antonia Brico (1902-1989)--conductor and transitional figure to the late twentieth century. A concluding chapter contrasts the experiences of women classical musicians in the late nineteenth and the late twentieth centuries. Included are a number of photographs and drawings which impart the perceptions of audiences and critics of the stage presence of these performers.
The Vampire as Numinous Experience

The Vampire as Numinous Experience

Beth E. McDonald

pokkari
The critical work examines the vampire as a spiritual figure--whether literal or metaphorical--analyzing how the use of the vampire in literature has served to convey both a human sense of alienation from the divine and a desire to overcome that alienation. While expressing isolation, the vampire also represents the transcendent agent through which individuals and societies must confront questions about innate good or evil, and belief in the divine and the afterlife. Textual experiences of the numinous in the form of the vampire propel the subject on a spiritual journey involving both psychological and religious qualities. Through this journey, the reader and the main character may begin to understand the value of their existence and the divine. A variety of works, poetry and fiction by British and American authors, is discussed, with particular concentration on Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, as representative of the Romantic, Victorian, and late twentieth century periods of literature. A conclusion looks at the future of the literary vampire.

In The Power of Pictures book and companion DVD, Beth Olshansky introduces teachers to her innovative art-based approach to literacy instruction. Widely practiced in classrooms across the country, the model has been proven by research to improve literacy achievement with a wide range of learners, especially those who struggle with verbal skills. At the heart of her approach is the Artists/Writers Workshop. Through study of quality picture books and hands-on art experiences, students learn to visualize, “paint pictures with words,” and ultimately create their own extraordinary artistic and literary work. The book and DVD explain how any teacher can successfully use this process to enable all students, particularly low performers, to make dramatic gains in both reading and writing.

Five characters bear witness to a world-changing event that forces them right to the edge of faith in this series of midweek worship services for Lent, which also includes services for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday. Each service contains a brief sermon, and the five midweek services also feature monologues from the perspective of someone who was present at our Lord's Passion (a sleeping disciple, the high priest, a maid, a soldier, and a city resident). The bewilderment experienced by these characters will help worshipers find a voice for the confusion that we all feel from time to time. Life On The Edge Of Faith is a complete package of thematically related worship resources for the busy pastor looking for midweek programming. The monologues can be read by parishioners, and it's a great opportunity to have your young people participate in worship activities. A graduate of the University of Toledo and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (Berkeley, California), Beth Huener is an ordained ELCA pastor who has served parishes in Ohio and West Virginia. She is currently the interim pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio.

Published in Association with the New York Botanical GardenThe Manual of Leaf Architecture is an essential reference for describing, comparing, and classifying the leaves of flowering plants. This manual, illustrated with dozens of line drawings and more than 300 photographs of prepared stained leaves, provides a framework with comparative examples allowing consistent and detailed description of both modern and fossil leaves. This one-of-a-kind resource will be invaluable to a broad range of people who work with plants, from paleobotanists to systematists to tropical ecologists. The Manual allows for the description and identification of plants independently of their flowers, offering especially useful assistance in the case of fossil leaves (usually found in isolation) and tropical plants, whose flowering cycles can be brief and irregular, and whose fruits and flowers may be difficult to access. It provides long-needed guidelines for characterizing the organization, shape, venation, and margins of the leaves of flowering plants.Beginning with a set of illustrated definitions of leaf characters, this manual proceeds to define and illustrate the variations on each of these characters. The system presented here is based on a widely tested scheme but has been significantly expanded and refined through the detailed examination of thousands of living and fossil leaves.

As a 1950s housewife and League of Women Voters volunteer who spearheaded the city of Lincoln’s switch to a “strong mayor” form of government, Helen Boosalis (1919–2009) never anticipated that she herself would one day be that strong mayor and chief executive of Nebraska’s capital city.Helen Boosalis’s story, told by her daughter, Beth Boosalis Davis, is that of a true pioneer of women in politics. The daughter of Greek immigrants, Boosalis achieved national prominence as the first woman president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and as an outspoken advocate for economically distressed cities facing President Reagan’s “new federalism.” Winning the Democratic nomination for governor of Nebraska in 1986, Helen Boosalis ran against Kay Orr in the first gubernatorial contest between two women in U.S. history. The interwoven tales of conflict and challenge, from the mayor’s office to the campaign trail, combine personal insight into one woman’s trailblazing political history with a compelling memoir of a half century of public service and private devotion shared by two remarkable women, mother and daughter.Listen to an interview with Helen Boosalis and Beth Boosalis Davis on AARP's Radio Prime Time show.
