Single Crystal Diffractometry

Single Crystal Diffractometry

U. W. Arndt; B. T. M. Willis

Cambridge University Press
2009
pokkari
The first stage in the determination of a crystal structure is the measurement of the intensities of the Bragg reflexions. This book is concerned with counter-methods of measuring these intensities. The use of counter methods has spread rapidly in recent years with the development of quantum detectors and of automatically controlled diffractometers. The authors of this book were among the first workers to design and operate automatic X-ray and neutron diffractometers; they have visited laboratories throughout the world where such instruments have been installed. Originally published in 1966, this book covers all aspects of single crystal diffractometry. A discussion of the geometrical principles of diffraction by single crystals is followed by a description of diffractometers and of their component parts, including radiation detectors and detector circuits.
The Crystal Star: Star Wars Legends

The Crystal Star: Star Wars Legends

First Timothy Zahn reopened the door to George Lucas's dazzling universe with his New York Times-bestselling Star Wars trilogy. Then Kathy Tyers's The Truce at Bakura took readers back to the fateful days following the events in Return of the Jedi. And with The Courtship of Princess Leia Dave Wolverton chronicled Han Solo's turbulent campaign for the princess's hand. Now, award-winning author Vonda N. McIntyre continues the tradition as the ultimate space adventure unfolds in The Crystal Star.Princess Leia is dealt a crushing blow when her three children—Anakin and the twins Jaina and Jacen—are kidnapped. Leia's advisers counsel her to wait for a ransom note, but waiting is the hardest thing for a mother to do when her children are in danger—and worse than waiting is her discovery that she cannot sense her children through the Force.Ultimately, the princess has no choice. She, Chewbacca, and Artoo-Detoo track the kidnappers, following their trail to a disabled refugee ship where the answers provided by Rillao, a mysterious fugitive, only provoke more questions. The refugees' children are also missing—and Rillao thinks she knows who has them: a powerful Imperial officer named Hethrir who has his own twisted plans to restore the Empire to its former glory.Meanwhile, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are on a separate mission to the planet Crseih to investigate a report of a lost group of Jedi. Crseih is at the mercyof strange quantum effects caused by the death of a nearby star that is slowly freezing into a uniquely perfect crystal. This crystal star causes a disruption in the Force, blunting Luke's power and cutting the Millennium Falcon off from Leia and their home base. What Han and Luke find on the planet is even stranger than a crystallizing sun: a charismatic alien named Waru who has attracted a following of fanatic devotees through his miraculous healing powers. Is Waru a being of benevolence? Or do his healing arts conceal a darker purpose? As Leia, Chewbacca, and Rillao follow Hethri trail of treachery across space, Luke and Han draw closer to the truth behind Waru' sinister cult. Ultimately they will face an explosive showdown that could determine not only their own fates and the fate of the New Republic but whether the universe itself will survive.

"The Crystal Children Prophecies" was channeled into creation in 2010, when Channele was on a two month pilgrimage to Brazil. While studying with her spiritual mentors from the Amazon region, and doing deep ceremonial initiatory work, unexpectedly a series of rhyming poems, started to pour through her while communing with beings from the celestial realms that called themselves "Nostradamus"."I didn't know what channeling was until it happened to me. I had never heard of it or read about it, but then it started to flow through my hands and down on the paper scrolls in front of me. Just as one would turn on a tap and let the water flow from it, so did the words in this book flow out through me." Channele "The Crystal Children Prophecies" are loaded with prophetic messages to humanity and provide great guidance of how we can live our lives in more harmony and in full surrender that we are held by the divine. You are a jewel. A gem in the eye of our creator. Many of us forgot this. This book is truly a love letter from the creator source. May it serve as a great reminder of your divinity and spark the remembrance of who you truly are."

THE CRYSTAL DESERT: SUMMERS IN ANTARCTICA is the story of life's tenacity on the coldest of Earth's continents. It tells of the explorers who discovered Antarctica, of the whalers and sealers who despoiled it, and of the scientists who are deciphering its mysteries. In beautiful, lucid prose, David G. Campbell chronicles the desperately short summers on the Antarctic Peninsula. He presents a fascinating portrait of the evolution of life in Antarctica and also of the evolution of the continent itself.
