Economic integration in general and Eastern enlargement of the European Union in particular created a wider European single market, thereby stimulating structural adjustment and economic specialization. This study analyzes trade specialization patterns in the enlarged European Union with a special focus on the new EU member states and the cohesion countries. From a sectoral trade point of view, empirical findings on revealed comparative advantage and a broader picture of competitiveness on the single market are presented. Furthermore, we analyze whether trade specialization patterns converge within the enlarged EU. Empirically identifying the determinants of successful trade specialization and taking into account the role of foreign direct investment, we offer new insights into the dynamics of trade, innovation and integration. Finally, policy options for the new EU member states are evaluated. Thus this work increases our understanding of the nature of international adjustment processes.

Der potentielle Interessengegensatz zwischen Mehrheits- und Minderheitsaktionaren in einer Gesellschaft wird in der Verflechtung von Gesellschaften deutlich. Die Beherrschung einer Gesellschaft durch ein anderes Unternehmen birgt die Gefahr in sich, dass die Interessen der beherrschten Gesellschaft von dem herrschenden Unternehmen ausser acht gelassen werden. Die Ubernahme der Kontrolle durch Beherrschungsvertrag wirft deshalb die Frage auf, wie der Schutz der Minderheitsaktionare, die nunmehr zu -aussenstehenden- Gesellschaftern werden, ausgestaltet ist. Ein Vergleich des deutschen und des brasilianischen Rechts zeigt die vielfaltigen Aspekte dieser Fragestellung."

Society is characterized by a constant flow of multimodal products, which increasingly blur the lines between screen and reality, and audiovisual translation allows overcoming geographical and linguistic frontiers between small realities across the planet. However, research has long struggled to adapt its methodologies to effectively analyze such phenomena, and even more to scale its results through larger corpus analyses.Dora Renna proposes a pioneering framework, informed by the latest trends in audiovisual translation and multimodality and fit to achieve the complex task of operatively including multimodality in a rigorous corpus analysis of source and target versions of films characterized by language variation as a key element of character design.While language is at the core of her analysis, its role in the broader audiovisual context is explored thanks to a solid network of relations that shed light on linguistic and translational choices as well as on their implications. Framework and methodology are explained in detail and thoroughly applied to the case study to show how this perspective contributes to move a step forward in corpus-based audiovisual translation studies. The results obtained are unexpected and urge readers to overcome old attitudes towards audiovisual translation and multimodal corpora.
Reading between the Lines: Reflections on Discarded Books and Sociopolitical Transformations in (Post-)Yugoslavia

Every major socio-political change starts with some discarding. Suffice it to think about the heaps of rubbish consisting of old furniture, cars, busts of famous communist leaders, badges, and books on the streets of Eastern Europe in the fall/winter of 1989/1990. Among the institutions which have the greatest amount of experience with discarding are libraries: Counterintuitive as it may seem, libraries (but also museums and archives) regularly discard books as part of their job. In the wake of the collapse of communism in Europe, stock revision was needed in libraries, but did it unfold in a business as usual fashion or was it a bibliocide (as it was labelled by some media in Croatia) or even the biggest destruction of books in the post-war period (as it was characterized by a German journalist)? When does a standard library practice start attracting public attention? What happened in Croatia that there is even a Wikipedia page about bookicide in the 1990s? This book approaches the issue on at least three levels (phenomenological, discursive, and theoretical) and from three angles (from the point of view of librarians, non-professionals, and, metaphorically, discarded books themselves). The aim is to offer an innovative and original interpretation of post-socialist transition and post-Yugoslav memory while at the same time providing an empirically founded case study of the inconsistencies and lack of implementation of regulations in the field of librarianship in Croatia as opposed to a seemingly more synchronized environment in Slovenia.
