JERRY FITCH has been fortunate to have lived during a very exciting era in boxing history. He has watched fights ringside as a fan, as a reporter for many major boxing publications and also on live television and closed circuit. In addition some of his favorite fights written about here involve battles that took place long before the author was born. Viewing these pieces of boxing history on film and video provided him with a historic insight into boxing history and the men who made it.MY FAVORITE FIGHTS is just a small capsule of the countless fights Jerry has enjoyed over sixty years of watching boxing. The book is meant to not only remember these favorite fights but to provide insight leading up to them and the impact that occurred after them. Jerry gives his opinion of the fights from not only a writer's perspective but also from that of a fan. In addition, Jerry met many of the fighters involved in these encounters, even became friends with several of them. Jersey Joe Walcott, Joe Louis, Billy Conn, Roberto Duran, Bobby Chacon, Carlos Palomino, Lloyd Marshall, Bob Foster and Larry Holmes are just some of the giants of boxing recalled here. But these services may more closely resemble the phenomenon of wraparound incarceration, in which students, despite leaving the actual detention center, cannot escape the surveillance of formal detention, and are thereby slowly pushed away from traditional schooling and a productive life course.

The author of this lucid and interdisciplinary study of Mark's Gospel believes that - when applied to Gospel texts - sociological analysis and literary criticism may be far closer together in purpose and intent than is often supposed. Professor Camery-Hoggatt therefore begins his work with an exploration of the social functions of narrative in general, and of ironic narrative in particular. He then turns to the literary functions of the internal elements of the narrative, and draws the two discussions together into a single framework that can be used as a lens through which Mark's Gospel can be read. The author's claim is that irony - especially dramatic irony - thoroughly permeates the Gospel, and that this evinces a rhetorical strategy central to Mark's whole narrative. The second half of the book shows that the presence of irony is especially powerful when the deeper level of meaning is somehow hidden from the story's characters.

Professor Nash argues instead that the conflicting forces in Scève's poetic expression of love (light and dark, night and day, heaven and hell) lead ultimately to a sense of equilibrium and a transcendent paradisal state, and that the poet's struggle is actually directed towards this coming to terms with the meaning of ineffable love. Contemplation and portrayal of the ineffable are shown to constitute the central and unifying concern of this compelling body of Renaissance love poetry.

Adam Smith is the best known among economists for his book, The Wealth of Nations, often viewed as the keystone of modern economic thought. For many he has become associated with a quasi-libertarian laissez-faire philosophy. Others, often heterodox economists and social philosophers, on the contrary, focus on Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments, and explore his moral theory.
