Case Studies in Psychological Assessment and Testing
This casebook argues that standardized psychological testing is superior to traditional assessment methods, presenting a multitrait, multimethod approach that leads to more convincing case resolutions and effective treatment planning. Rather than using a typical case study approach, this casebook analyzes clusters of similar cases, including 65 that represent common diagnostic issues, questions, and examinations in mental health practice. Covering ten major types of cases, from suspected learning disorders to forensic evaluations and child custody examinations, the book identifies unifying themes and provides a comprehensive content base for each issue, question, or examination type. Each chapter begins with detailed background information to explain the case type, helping readers understand what to look for before presenting one or more illustrative examples. These examples show how to classify referrals by examination type, presenting issues, or key questions, and how to resolve them using a data-driven test battery. Spores helps the reader understand what they are looking for and demonstrates how identifying the commonalities among various cases can lead to effective test-based strategies for their efficient resolution. The casebook is written as a primary text in both advanced undergraduate- and graduate-level courses covering psychological testing, along with being on the shelves of many mental health clinicians as a reference text to help them work through difficult patients on their caseloads.

Riders to the Sea and The Aran Islands (Selected Passages): Notes and Introduction by Robert Walsh
What differentiates this edition from others is-Three chapters presenting the two works of John M. Synge placed in the biographical and literary context of the author.-A chapter providing a detailed reading and analysis of the play Riders to the Sea.-A further chapter analysing the relation between the play and the prose work and how they interact.-The selection of passages from the Aran Islands aims at highlighting the relation between the play and the prose work.-Copious footnotes and a glossary of Anglo-Irish terms used in both works.-An ample bibliographyConsidered by many to be the masterpiece of the Irish playwright John M. Synge Riders to the Sea, a one act play, is a dense tragedy where the supernatural and spiritual dimensions interact and sometimes enter into conflict with stark realism. The primary inspiration for this play was Synge's stay on the windswept Aran Islands and the prose work, The Aran Islands, was the literary outcome of this experience. This edition of Riders to the Sea is published together with selected passages from The Aran Islands and has the aim of highlighting the relation between Synge's experience and the spirit of play. The one act tragedy Riders to the Sea and the prose work The Aran Islands are inseparable. The play cannot be fully understood without reference to prose work. They both breathe the same spirit, they complement each other; one was inspired by the other, one is a dramatization of the other. His experience on these islands allowed Synge to develop the necessary balance between inner experience and objective reality necessary for any work of art.The distinguishing characteristics of this edition are the three introductory chapters, ample notes and glossary. The first chapter places both works in their biographical and literary context. The second is a reading of the play drawing attention to the interplay of the natural and supernatural dimensions emerging from the creative use of symbolism overshadowed by a foreboding of death. The third highlights the relevance of the prose work to the play from both the spiritual and realistic dimensions of life.

REVISED AND UPDATED EDITIONApproximately 75,000 years ago, an event occurred that almost wiped out human life. According to a stunning new theory, this singular event may also have completely altered the genetic evolution of humankind. It was an event that released 3,000 times the energy of Mt. St. Helens. The new book, Supervolcano, explores this eruption of the Toba supervolcano in Sumatra, Indonesia, its far-reaching impact, and the strong possibility of another supervolcano eruption in our lifetime.Supervolcanoes are considered one of the five biggest threats to humankind, along with asteroids, nuclear war, disease, and global warming. But of those, supervolcanoes are the only threat that cannot be prevented. And their effects are catastrophic. So devastating was the Toba eruption and the sheer amount of ash it released into the atmosphere, it altered the global climate for years, creating a mini Ice Age that obliterated massive amounts of plant, animal, and human life. A new theory claims this earth-shattering event also caused a severe "population bottleneck" in humans, leading to the eventual extinction of all other branches of our species with the exception of one...the branch that survived Toba and became modern humans.Supervolcano will explore: -What supervolcanos are, where they are found, and why they are so deadly to life on earth.-Toba, the largest of the known supervolcanoes in the past 27 million years, and how its catastrophic environmental aftermath brought humanity to the brink of extinction.-How genetic, geological, and computer studies show that each human today is related to a survivor of Toba.-How we can prepare for the next supervolcano, which many earth scientists believe could be right here in our own backyard--Yellowstone National Park. And why they believe an eruption at Yellowstone could be as catastrophic for humanity as Toba.

Where Was Jesus in the Old Testament? Have you ever wondered why Jesus waited thousands of years of human history before making an appearance in the little town of Bethlehem? Why does it seem that the most important person to ever have walked the planet Earth only lived about 30 years and the Bible only describes with any detail only 3 of those years? The truth is, as the Apostle John reminds us, Jesus, "was in the beginning with God." And, if He's always been, there is all the more reason to trust Him. Discover how Jesus has always been the means by which God reveals Himself to His people. Learn how many of God's people in the Old Testament had personal encounters with Christ. Behold the wonder of a God who makes His presence known to His people. His visible presence, Jesus Christ.

Times are tough for the Levites who depend on tithes, and for the priests who receive their share from the Levites. King Saul's execution of eighty-five priests of Nob dried up the offerings. The whole country is in upheaval as Saul now seeks to kill his rival David, who, with his motley men, is hiding in the wilderness of Judah. Why does Saul want to kill his best fighter? It's confusing to twelve-year-old Benaiah. Even if he could somehow get out of his hometown, how would he find David? Trump's America: Destroying the Foundation of America's Values
Americans elected Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States because they wanted change. Tired of career politicians many Americans thought Trump would bring a refreshing change to America. Trump, a successful businessman, promised Americans he would boost wealth and make America strong but instead has increased America's debt by 2 trillion dollars, increased the deficit by 319 billion dollars, passed a tax reform bill which benefited the wealthy, started a trade war with our trade partners causing taxpayers 12 billion dollars to bail out our farmers, further divided our country socially and economically and befriended our worse enemies while berating our allies. In his 2020 budget, he proposes making huge cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and programs which assist the less fortunate areas which he promised not to cut. As Americans, we need to wake up, and realise our country is going down a terrible path and President Trump's policies and actions are destroying the very foundation and core values established by our country's forefathers. Most Americans work hard to try and make a living and a good life for their families. However, for many, this is a struggle with over 42 per cent of Americans making less than a living wage and have to work two or three jobs to survive. Over12 per cent of Americans can't afford health insurance for themselves and their families. Working Americans are not looking for a handout but a way to survive and improve life for their families. Americans want a fair, equitable system. American worker's wages have not substantially increased over the years while their benefits have decreased or eliminated. On the other hand, American CEO's incomes have increased more than 930 per cent since 1978. The system is broke; American workers should not be slaves to the wealthy and greedy. Americans workers should be paid a living wage, have affordable health care and not have to worry about being unable to retire. The majority of Americans would like a universal health care system which will guarantee health care for all Americans. It is sad that we are the only developed country in the world without a universal health care system. We need an educational system which will provide our children with the tools needed to advance in society. Educating the population and providing a working wage will reduce crime and welfare thus saving our country money. If our elected officials work together to cut government fraud, waste and abuse there would be sufficient funds for universal health care and free education for our citizens. We as a country need to work together as a nation with everyone treated equally. We need to get over treating individuals differently due to race, sex and ethnicity but treat everyone the same. There should be no government handouts to anyone who is capable of making a living wage. Our country is in desperate need for a leader who can unify our country not divide it. A leader who will be honest and not continually lie - a leader who has integrity and the best interest of our country and all its citizens. America needs to get back on track and return to the country the world admires and respects. As citizens, we need to elect officials who want what is best for the country and its citizens, not special interest groups. As citizens, we need to come together as we always have in the past to ensure our country remains a country run by the people for the people.

Music Theory for Home Study: Book I

Studying music theory allows a person to understand the building blocks of music. Music Theory for Home Study, Book I, introduces these building blocks one at a time, in a logical, 36 lesson format. Designed to be a self-paced method of study, each lesson builds on the prior ones, including short assignments in order to practice newly introduced material. Instead of trying to cover every possible aspect of music theory, only the most common concepts are explored. For example, while there are many clefs, treble and bass clefs are used exclusively instead of including clefs that are rarely seen. The range of notes is also limited to C below bass clef to C above treble clef, with a maximum of two ledger lines above or below either clef. By limiting what is studied, the building blocks are easier to see, leading to a firmer foundation on how to best understand music theory.
