Close Encounters: Volume Two: The Abduction Cases of Charles Hickson & Calvin Parker, Scott & Wendy Longley, Linda Cortile, Betty Andrea
'Are we alone in the universe' This is a question that mankind has pondered for many millennia. There are over two-hundred-and-fifty-billion stars within our Milky Way galaxy alone; and there are at least one-hundred-billion galaxies in the observable universe. Considering the sheer magnitude of these numbers, one must conclude that there must be trillions upon trillions of planets within our universe. It would then seem logical, that a percentage of these trillions of worlds must contain intelligent life. So, the real question that mankind should be asking is not, 'Are we alone in the universe', rather we should instead be asking, 'How long will it be until humanity finally meets its interstellar alien neighbours'Of course, there are those who claim that this meeting between human beings and alien beings has already taken place. In Volume Two of Duncan Murphy's 'Close Encounters', we will explore five true cases of people who claim to have encountered UFO's and have been abducted by aliens. -The Charles Hickson & Calvin Parker Abduction: More commonly known as 'The Pascagoula Abduction'. A simple fishing trip becomes a harrowing experience for two fishermen when they unexpectedly encounter a UFO and its strange occupants. -The Longley Abduction: A happy family traveling along a quiet rural road in Australia suddenly find themselves being taken by otherworldly beings.-The Linda Cortile Abduction: In the bustling city of New York, aliens snatch a woman from her bed in the middle of the night; An incident with many eyewitnesses. - The Betty Andreasson Abduction: After being taken from her home by alien beings, a woman is surprised to discover that she has repressed a lifetime's worth of memories involving previous abduction experiences and strange alien experimentation.-The Kelly Cahill Encounter: A deeply terrifying incident involving a young woman, her husband, a UFO, and a possible link to the truly frightening paranormal phenomenon, 'Shadow People'. It doesn't matter if you are a believer, a skeptic, or are simply uncertain; the concept of alien abduction is simply fascinating, and Volume Two of 'Close Encounters' by Duncan Murphy takes readers on an informative journey into this fascinating topic.

This is the first book of its kind to draw together information on the major events in Russian history from 1695 to 1917 - covering the eventful period from the accession of Peter the Great to the fall of Nicholas II. Poetry in the Wars

Poetry in the Wars

Longley Edna

In the two world wars – and throughout the Troubles in Northern Ireland – poets insisted on not serving any political or nationalist case. As the war poets were attacked for failing to write their country’s battle hymns, so the Ulster poets were victims of improper ‘expectations’. In this seminal critical study Edna Longley argues that while poets as citizens may support various causes, poets as writers cannot settle for anything less than ‘full human truths’. The price of that imaginative freedom is ‘eternal vigilance’. Edna Longley shows how Edward Thomas wrote for England, but not for its war. How Keith Douglas kept a moral eye on his subject even as he shot to kill. And yet how an unjust Ulster ‘hurt’ Seamus Heaney into poetry. Edna Longley relates contemporary Northern Irish poetry to the overall history of 20th-century poetry in English. She argues that the most important poets have stuck quite deliberately to their armoury of difficult traditional forms, adapting and extending them in response to modern wars, conflicts, oppression and injustice. In this important collection of interconnected essays, she also traces the influence of W.B. Yeats, and considers the work of Louis MacNeice, Robert Frost, Philip Larkin, Derek Mahon and Paul Muldoon.
