Financing Entrepreneurship and Innovation in China provides an overview of the current state-of-affairs in the financing of private innovations in China. While country-level innovation can take many forms, the focus is on the funding of business start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures. The monograph has four specific objectives: (1) to present an economic framework for evaluating the central challenges associated with the financing of entrepreneurial ventures in China, (2) to evaluate the relative size and importance of the channels through which private initiatives for innovation in China are currently being funded, (3) to survey the academic evidence on potential financing constraints currently facing private initiatives in innovation, and (4) to discuss public policy implications that may arise from these findings, as well as to outline the type of future research that may best inform Chinese policy makers. After the introduction, Section 2 begins with a review of the central economic themes in entrepreneurial finance. Section 3 reviews the channels through which external funding now reach entrepreneurs in China. Section 4 further explores the problems engendered by China's IPO regulations. Section 5 summarizes the findings, discusses policy implications, and explores potential venues for future research. The authors conclude that China's current IPO regulations represent a serious impediment to two important near-term goals espoused by the Chinese government – to bring more high-technology firms back to mainland stock markets, and to be included at a meaningful weight in international stock indices, particularly the MSCI Emerging Market Index.

Pokerturniersendungen haben sich zu einem Quotenbringer im amerikanischen Fernsehen entwickelt. Seit ESPN und der Travel Channel im Jahr 2003 mit der Ausstrahlung ihrer innovativen Pokershows begonnen haben, hat das Spiel eine neue Anh ngerschaft erreicht, insbesondere unter College-Studenten. Es gibt einzigartige und psychologisch bedeutsame Faktoren, die die College-Population charakterisieren und die Studenten besonders empf nglich f r popul re Charakterisierungen in den Medien machen. Diese Studie untersucht die m glichen Auswirkungen dieser popul ren Poker-Fernsehshows auf das Spielverhalten von Studenten. 444 College-Studenten f llten eine Umfrage aus, die darauf abzielte, die durch die Medien gesuchten Gratifikationen zusammen mit Messungen der Einstellungen, des Spielverhaltens und der sozialen Systeme zu bewerten. Unter Verwendung der Sozialen Kognitiven Theorie als Rahmen des Einflusses wurde die Exposition gegen ber diesen Shows beurteilt und bewertet. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass das Gl cksspielverhalten von Studenten stark mit dem Fernsehkonsum korreliert, insbesondere bei j ngeren Studenten. Dies wurde vor allem bei Studenten beobachtet, die die Online-Gl cksspieloption nutzten. Das Gl cksspielverhalten von Gleichaltrigen erwies sich nicht als starker Einfluss auf das Gl cksspiel von Sch lern. Allerdings erwies sich die Aufregung als eine starke Variable, die n her betrachtet werden sollte.

Il existe des facteurs uniques et psychologiquement significatifs qui caract risent la population universitaire et qui rendent les tudiants particuli rement r ceptifs aux caract risations populaires dans les m dias. Cette tude examine les effets potentiels de ces missions t l vis es populaires de poker sur le comportement de jeu des tudiants. 444 tudiants ont r pondu une enqu te con ue pour valuer les gratifications recherch es dans les m dias ainsi que les mesures des attitudes, du comportement de jeu et des syst mes sociaux. En utilisant la th orie sociale cognitive comme cadre d'influence, l'exposition ces missions a t valu e. Les r sultats indiquent que le jeu chez les tudiants est fortement corr l l'exposition aux missions, en particulier chez les jeunes tudiants. I tornei di poker sono diventati una delle principali attrazioni della televisione americana. Da quando ESPN e Travel Channel hanno iniziato a mandare in onda i loro innovativi show sul poker nel 2003, il gioco ha raggiunto un nuovo seguito, in particolare tra gli studenti del college. Ci sono fattori unici e psicologicamente significativi che caratterizzano la popolazione del college che rendono gli studenti particolarmente ricettivi alle caratterizzazioni popolari nei media. Questo studio indaga i potenziali effetti che questi popolari show televisivi sul poker hanno sul comportamento di gioco degli studenti. 444 studenti universitari hanno completato un sondaggio progettato per valutare le gratificazioni ricercate attraverso i media insieme a misure di atteggiamenti, comportamenti di gioco e sistemi sociali. Usando la Teoria Cognitiva Sociale come quadro d'influenza, l'esposizione a questi spettacoli stata valutata. I risultati hanno indicato che il gioco d'azzardo degli studenti fortemente correlato alla visione, in particolare tra gli studenti pi giovani. Questo stato visto soprattutto tra gli studenti che hanno utilizzato l'opzione del gioco online. Il comportamento di gioco dei coetanei non ha mostrato di essere una forte influenza sul gioco degli studenti. Tuttavia, l'eccitazione ha dimostrato di essere una forte variabile che dovrebbe essere esaminata pi da vicino.
