Much evidence strongly indicates that bodily death is not the end of your life, but rather an entry point into the next phase of life. This evidence, combined with a highly probable emergence of spirit communication technology as early as 2018, will very likely create a major shift in the human experience. Our goal is to provide an evidence-based integrative foundation for expanding your awareness of the greater reality, the vast portion of life that cannot be perceived by your five senses. We hope to prepare you and as many people as possible to realize that life continues after physical death. From that perspective, you can best choose how to live, treat others and yourself, and enjoy greater reality living. The greater reality is all that actually exists. The vast majority of it cannot be perceived by your five senses, but is nonetheless very real. Because so much of reality escapes the senses, you likely have viewed life on earth as though through a tiny pinhole and then wondered why things don't make sense. Our perspectives are based on contemporary knowledge and understandings from scientific, clinical, and empirical evidence. A greater reality perspective indicates, with varying degrees of certainty, that you: a. continue living after physical death.b. do not really lose loved ones after their bodies end; you can reunite with them when you change worlds.c. can enjoy a continuing, although different, relationship with 'departed' loved ones. d. encounter not just one but many life experiences.e. are one with the One and an integral part of Sourcef. receive assistance and guidance from sources described as angels, guides, master teachers, higher energies, and the Light.g. create how heavenly or hellish your life feels, whether on earth or elsewhere, by your predominant thoughts, words and deeds.h. are interconnected with other people, animals, nature, and all of life.i. have special purposes for experiencing being on this planet now. None of the above is apparent when you rely on just your five senses per se. All of the above can assist having a more joyful, peaceful, and meaningful human experience. What is greater reality living? This term describes how you might choose to live as you expand your awareness of reality. How would you live and treat others if you deeply knew that, for the list above, statements (a - c) have a very high degree of certainty for being true, and the others are quite probably true? Five keys to greater reality living - Learn, Internalize, Vitalize, Enjoy, Serve - can be remembered by the acronym LIVES: 1. Learn the evidence that your life continues after physical death. 2. Internalize the comforting and inspiring news that death is not an end.3. Vitalize and balance yourself holistically.4. Enjoy the many benefits of greater reality living. 5. Serve others to help them - and yourself - and make the world a better place. We offer insights, resources and hope for those who are searching and suffering, particularly if you are: - grieving loved ones after their bodily death- fearing the end of your body.- struggling with the suicide of a loved one. - experiencing your physical body dying.- suffering with difficulties such as failed relationships, physical or mental illness, broken dreams, financial loss, lack of purpose, or addicted family / friends. - thinking of suicide.- mourning the bodily death of a beloved pet.- wrestling with religious teachings that don't make sense to you now.- searching for sensible answers to your biggest questions / challenges. - desiring to enjoy the greatest life you have envisioned. - wanting to transform yourself and our planet for the better. Our understandings and the strategies described in this book, when applied consistently over time, can greatly assist these and other challenges.

This book analyzes the interactions of international criminal tribunals established since the 1990s with international, national and regional bodies, making recommendations for the International Criminal Court (ICC) as it goes forward. Placing the core issues within the statutory framework of the Rome Statute and major policy considerations, the authors examine ways in which the ICC can best coordinate with other accountability mechanisms on national and regional prosecutions, the UN Security Council, cooperation on the enforcement of arrest warrants, national non-judicial processes and amicus briefs from non-governmental organizations (NGOs).This timely evaluation of the experiences of the ad hoc international criminal tribunals spotlights the legal, political and coordination issues that will likely impact the ICC's current mandate to adjudicate core international crimes. It explores how governments, inter-governmental bodies and global civil society might best collaborate to strengthen national capacity to investigate and prosecute atrocity crimes in pursuit of global justice. The book also considers the challenge of state cooperation with international criminal tribunals, identifying lessons for the ICC, while emphasizing the need for positive complementarity between the emerging African Criminal Court and the ICC. Lawyers, judges, NGOs, government officials, academics, and policy makers at all levels will value this book as an important resource on transitional justice and the place of justice in the aftermath of conflict and mass atrocity.

sidottu
This contemporary introduction to the principles and research base of cultural ecology is the ideal textbook for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate courses that deal with the intersection of humans and the environment in traditional societies. After introducing the basic principles of cultural anthropology, environmental studies, and human biological adaptations to the environment, the book provides a thorough discussion of the history of, and theoretical basis behind, cultural ecology. The bulk of the book outlines the broad economic strategies used by traditional cultures: hunting/gathering, horticulture, pastoralism, and agriculture. Fully explicated with cases, illustrations, and charts on topics as diverse as salmon ceremonies among Northwest Indians, contemporary Maya agriculture, and the sacred groves in southern China, this book gives a global view of these strategies. An important emphasis in this text is on the nature of contemporary ecological issues, how peoples worldwide adapt to them, and what the Western world can learn from their experiences. A perfect text for courses in anthropology, environmental studies, and sociology.

This is the first volume (text and plates) of the analytically legible seals (ca. 1,162) retrieved through many thousands of full or partial impressions preserved on the 2,087 Elamite administrative tablets recovered during the 1930s excavations at Persepolis, Iran, and published by Richard T Hallock (OIP 92) in 1969. The tablets are dated by date formulae in the texts to the years 509-494 BC in the reign of Darius the Great. Volume I introduces the archive and documents the 312 seals of heroic encounter (retrieved via 1,970 impressions) with high quality composite drawings and a separate volume of 291 halftone and line plate illustrations presented at a scale of 2:1. Entries provide commentary on administrative, social, stylistic, and iconographical features of the seals as well as systematic analysis of seal application patterns. The thirty-four seal inscriptions are presented by Charles E Jones. Twelve appendices synthesize formal and iconographical data and integrate the seals with their associated texts. Volume I is in two parts: Part 1: text 562pp; Part 2: plates 1-291 318pp

As a flyover state for many migrating species, backyard birders can see hundreds of species per year as they head north in the spring and south for the winter. The American Birding Association Field Guide to Birds of Texas includes more than 300 species birders are most likely to see in the state. Illustrated with hundreds of crisp, color photographs, it includes descriptions of each bird along with tips of when and where to see them, written by an expert Texas birder. It is the perfect companion for anyone interested in the amazing diversity and beauty of the birds of Texas.

The Killer's Shadow: The Fbi's Hunt for a White Supremacist Serial Killer
The legendary FBI criminal profiler and international bestselling author of Mindhunter and The Killer Across the Table returns with this timely, relevant book that goes to the heart of extremism and domestic terrorism, examining in-depth his chilling pursuit of, and eventual prison confrontation with Joseph Paul Franklin, a White Nationalist serial killer and one of the most disturbing psychopaths he has ever encountered. Worshippers stream out of an Midwestern synagogue after sabbath services, unaware that only a hundred yards away, an expert marksman and avowed racist, antisemite and member of the Ku Klux Klan, patiently awaits, his hunting rifle at the ready. The October 8, 1977 shooting was a forerunner to the tragedies and divisiveness that plague us today. John Douglas, the FBI's pioneering, first full-time criminal profiler, hunted the shooter--a white supremacist named Joseph Paul Franklin, whose Nazi-inspired beliefs propelled a three-year reign of terror across the United States, targeting African Americans, Jews, and interracial couples. In addition, Franklin bombed the home of Jewish leader Morris Amitay, shot and paralyzed Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt, and seriously wounded civil rights leader Vernon Jordan. The fugitive supported his murderous spree robbing banks in five states, from Georgia to Ohio. Douglas and his writing partner Mark Olshaker return to this disturbing case that reached the highest levels of the Bureau, which was fearful Franklin would become a presidential assassin--and haunted him for years to come as the threat of copycat domestic terrorist killers increasingly became a reality. Detailing the dogged pursuit of Franklin that employed profiling, psychology and meticulous detective work, Douglas and Olshaker relate how the case was a make-or-break test for the still-experimental behavioral science unit and revealed a new type of, determined, mission-driven serial killer whose only motivation was hate. A riveting, cautionary tale rooted in history that continues to echo today, The Killer's Shadow is a terrifying and essential exploration of the criminal personality in the vile grip of extremism and what happens when rage-filled speech evolves into deadly action and hatred of the "other" is allowed full reign. The Killer's Shadow includes an 8-page color photo insert.

A seminal moment in the study of U.S. Catholic parish life came in the 1980s with the publication of a series of reports from the ground-breaking Notre Dame Study of Catholic Parish Life. These reports are now badly outdated, as Catholic dioceses grapple with new challenges that didnt exist in the 80s. Topics that were not considered then, like greater Catholic mobility, increased cultural diversity, and structural re-organization as well as the rise of lay leadership, have attained new significance. This timely book, based on more than a decade of research, provides an in-depth portrait and analysis of the current state of parish life and leadership. Unique in the scope of the research and the timeliness of its findings, the book critically examines the current state of parish life. The authors draw on data from national polls of Catholics, national surveys of parishes, and thousands of in-pew surveys which explore parishioner's needs, experiences, and satisfaction with parish life in the twenty-first century. The book provides a unique 360- degree view of parish life from the perspective of pastors, parish staff, parishioners, as well as the larger Catholic population.
Poorly Understood

Poorly Understood

Oxford University Press Inc
2021
sidottu
What if the idealized image of American society—a land of opportunity that will reward hard work with economic success—is completely wrong? Few topics have as many myths, stereotypes, and misperceptions surrounding them as that of poverty in America. The poor have been badly misunderstood since the beginnings of the country, with the rhetoric only ratcheting up in recent times. Our current era of fake news, alternative facts, and media partisanship has led to a breeding ground for all types of myths and misinformation to gain traction and legitimacy. Poorly Understood is the first book to systematically address and confront many of the most widespread myths pertaining to poverty. Mark Robert Rank, Lawrence M. Eppard, and Heather E. Bullock powerfully demonstrate that the realities of poverty are much different than the myths; indeed in many ways they are more disturbing. The idealized image of American society is one of abundant opportunities, with hard work being rewarded by economic prosperity. But what if this picture is wrong? What if poverty is an experience that touches the majority of Americans? What if hard work does not necessarily lead to economic well-being? What if the reasons for poverty are largely beyond the control of individuals? And if all of the evidence necessary to disprove these myths has been readily available for years, why do they remain so stubbornly pervasive? These are much more disturbing realities to consider because they call into question the very core of America's identity. Armed with the latest research, Poorly Understood not only challenges the myths of poverty and inequality, but it explains why these myths continue to exist, providing an innovative blueprint for how the nation can move forward to effectively alleviate American poverty.

Phylogeny and Evolution of the Angiosperms

Douglas E. Soltis; Pamela S. Soltis; Peter K. Endress; Mark Chase; Steven Manchester; Walter S. Judd

University of Chicago Press
2018
sidottu
Although they are relative latecomers on the evolutionary scene, having emerged only 135-170 million years ago, angiosperms or flowering plants are the most diverse and species-rich group of seed-producing land plants, comprising more than 13,000 genera and over 300,000 species. Not only are they a model group for studying the patterns and processes of evolutionary diversification, outside the laboratory they also play major roles in our economy, diet, and our courtship rituals, producing our fruits, legumes, and grains, not to mention the flowers in our Valentine's bouquets. They are also crucial ecologically, dominating most terrestrial and some aquatic landscapes. This fully revised edition of Phylogeny and Evolution of the Angiosperms provides an up-to-date, comprehensive overview of the evolution of and relationships among these vital plants, as well as of our attempts to reconstruct these relationships. Incorporating molecular phylogenetics with morphological, chemical, developmental, and paleobotanical data, as well as a more detailed account of early angiosperm fossils and important fossil information for each evolutionary branch of the angiosperms, the new edition integrates fossil evidence into a robust phylogenetic framework. Also including a wealth of new color images, this highly synthetic work further reevaluates long-held evolutionary hypotheses related to flowering plants and will be an essential reference for botanists, plant systematists, and evolutionary biologists alike.
