Te Ahu o te reo Maori: Reflecting on Research to Understand the Well-being of te reo Maori is an edited collection of bi-lingual writings that brings together Maori researchers, writers and community language advocates who were involved in the Te Taura Whiri-funded study, Te Ahu o te reo. Te Ahu o te reo Maori draws on this national research project completed in 2016, and brings together some of the different voices of the project in a way that will appeal to a wider audience. The aim of the book is to provide a space, beyond the funded research project, to reflect on the role of kaupapa Maori research and the researcher in Maori language research. Writers explore the concept of well-being in relation to te reo Maori and share evidence-based information about what supports and hinders the revitalisation of te reo Maori in communities, homes, kura and schools in Aotearoa in the 21st century. Contributors include: Vini Olsen-Reeder, Professor Rawinia Higgins, Dr Jessica Hutchings, Dr Jen Martin, Stephanie Fong, Associate Professor Jenny Bol Jun Lee-Morgan, Eruera Lee-Morgan, Waitiahoaho Emery.
The Eucharistic Prayer is the most central and distinctive form of Christian public prayer apart from the Lord's Prayer itself. It gradually evolved into fixed forms during the early Christian centuries, and the Eucharistic Prayer of Addai and Mari is almost certainly the oldest such prayer still in regular use. Dr Gelston's study presents a critical edition of the medieval Syriac text of this ancient Eucharistic Prayer. The text, which is eclectic, is accompanied by a select critical apparatus and a translation, and is followed by textual notes on the variants in the apparatus. The detailed commentary, accessible to those who do not read Syriac, is concerned chiefly with literary-critical and historical questions such as the parallels with the Maronite anaphora Sharar which provide a particular opportunity to detect possible later accretions and modifications. A tentative reconstruction of the Prayer as it may have been at about the beginning of the fifth century is offered in an appendix, and an introduction sets the Prayer in its wider context.
Princess Maura is the beloved daughter of Queen Abisola and her Consort Iasos, but an ill wind is blowing their way. From the distant east, nomadic tribesmen, known as the Bhuttanians, have unified under the leadership of Zoar, a powerful king who is bent on building a vast empire. Queen Abisola has little time to transform her peaceful, agrarian country into a fighting military unit able to take on Zoar's experienced warriors. Queen Abisola must surrender her daughter to the Dinii, a bird-like people who will adopt and train Princess Maura as a warrior to lead her people against Zoar. For years, both the Dinii and Maura's people prepare to withstand Zoar's inevitable onslaught, but they never anticipated combating the black magic of Zoar's evil wizard Zedek. And no one foresaw that Princess Maura would fall in love with the Dinii prince Chaun Maaun Will Princess Maura lose the love of her life as she struggles to save her people? Will her country be able to survive where others have crumbled before the tyranny of Zoar? Or will the Dinii betray her to the warlord Zoar in order to save themselves? Princess Maura is now the ruler of Hasan Daeg, but she has been captured by Aga Dorak who intends to marry her and consolidate his power over her country. With her army destroyed, Maura has no other choice, but to marry Dorak and hope she can curb his warlike tendencies. And there's another problem--she's fallen in love with him.Maura knows she must put her feelings aside and do what is best for her people. She must seek out the Royal Bogazkoy--a powerful plant which will give her enormous power to resist the conquering Bhuttanians. What should she do? Marry Dorak and try to conquer his heart, or escape to find the Royal Bogazkoy and fulfill her destiny?
Empress Maura is a fugitive on the run. She has escaped the confines of the palace at a great cost in lives, but her escape is paramount. Everywhere, Bhuttanian soldiers search for her, but she must elude capture and forced return to her dashing, but deceitful husband Dorak, Aga of the Bhuttanians.Maura truly loves Dorak. He was everything a woman could want--handsome, cultured, witty, and courageous. He lacks only kindness. Maura couldn't dampen the raging ambition inside him. She knows that eventually Dorak would be as corrupt as his father, the Aga Zoar. When Dorak accuses her of sexual improprieties, Maura realizes that she has to flee by any means necessary to reunite with the Dinii, a warrior bird-like people, and search for the fabled plant, the Mother Bogazkoy, in order to "mate" with it. Only the Bogazkoy could infuse her with the power to combat the Black Cacodemon, Dorak's evil wizard, and free her nation from the tyranny of Bhuttanian rule.Only by saving her country can Maura hope to save Dorak from himself. Can Maura really rescue both Dorak and her country? Or must one be sacrificed?
After battling the evil wizard Zedek in the cave of the Mother Bogazkoy, Maura discovers that Dorak, the love of her life, and Gitar, Empress of the Dinii, a bird-like people, have vanished. Most assume they have perished.Grief-stricken, Maura is determined that the child she is carrying shall become the ruler of the Bhuttanian Empire--but this means civil war Maura must travel to the capital of Bhuttan and confront Dorak's first wife Jezra and seize the throne from her. Only then can Maura restore order to the Empire.Deep in her heart, she believes that Dorak and Empress Gitar are still alive and hopes to find them. She sends KiKu, her spylord, and Timon, an untested royal scribe, on a secret mission to the temple of Bhuttu where mysterious bird-like creatures have been seen. Maura's quest to find Dorak is not without risk, but nothing will prevent her from finding him and ascending to the throne.
Empress Maura is now leader of Bhuttan and Hasan Daeg. All that remains is to capture the rebel stronghold of Bhuttani, controlled by the traitor Mikkotto who seeks to become queen of Hasan Daeg and Jezra, Dorak's first wife, who covets the title of king for her son.Aga Dorak and Empress Gitar of the Dinii are assumed to be dead. However, they are locked in another dimension due to an enchantment and cannot escape. The evil wizard Black Cacodemon, is a fellow prisoner in this netherworld as well.Maura, convinced Dorak and Gitar have not perished, has dispatched an unlikely duo to find and rescue them--her spymaster KiKu, royal scribe Timon who team with a streetwise urchin named Akela.Empress Maura leads an army against the city of Bhuttani in the ultimate battle for survival. But the city walls will not fall, and the gates will not buckle. Maura is determined that Bhuttani must fall into her hands before her troops rebel. Will Maura finally sit on the Bhuttanian throne in the Imperial Palace? Or will victory be snatched away by means of magic? Will she find Dorak and reunite with her great love? Or will Maura have to kill him?The fate of the Kaseri hinges on the outcome
