The Unseen Realm

The Unseen Realm

Michael S. Heiser

In The Unseen Realm, Dr. Michael Heiser examines the ancient context of Scripture, explaining how its supernatural worldview can help us grow in our understanding of God. He illuminates intriguing and amazing passages of the Bible that have been hiding in plain sight. You'll find yourself engaged in an enthusiastic pursuit of the truth, resulting in a new appreciation for God's Word. Why wasn't Eve surprised when the serpent spoke to her?How did descendants of the Nephilim survive the flood? Why did Jacob fuse Yahweh and his Angel together in his prayer? Who are the assembly of divine beings that God presides over? In what way do those beings participate in God's decisions? Why do Peter and Jude promote belief in imprisoned spirits? Why does Paul describe evil spirits in terms of geographical rulership? Who are the "glorious ones" that even angels dare not rebuke? After reading this book, you may never read your Bible the same way again."There is a world referred to in the Scripture that is quite unseen, but also quite present and active. Michael Heiser's The Unseen Realm seeks to unmask this world. Heiser shows how important it is to understand this world and appreciate how its contribution helps to make sense of Scripture. The book is clear and well done, treating many ideas and themes that often go unseen themselves. With this book, such themes will no longer be neglected, so read it and discover a new realm for reflection about what Scripture teaches."
Adaptive Optics

Adaptive Optics

Adaptive optics is a field which is coming into its own with new discoveries occurring almost daily both in astronomy and in applications of AO in applied fields. In an adaptive optics system, the output from a wavefront sensor is used to calculate corrections that actively remove distortions from an image. The applications of adaptive optics in vision science have received considerable impetus from the knowledge developed by astronomers about how to correct images using AO technology. It is expected that developments in adaptive optics will radically change the face of astronomy in the 21st century. These systems will largely overcome the main limitation of ground-based telescopes, namely the severe reduction in image quality caused by turbulence in the Earth's atmosphere. Intended for use at near infrared wavelengths, adaptive optics allow imaging and spectroscopy at the limit of resolution imposed by optical diffraction an advance in astronomer's ability to view the heavens unparalleled since the invention of the telescope. AO is now also entering clinical medicine in the field of ophthalmology and other related fields. This new book presents several hundred current abstracts in the field, each fully indexed, for ease of access and contains a CD ROM for further research.

Justice is supposed to be blind, although one might guess otherwise when considering some very famous and controversial court cases throughout history. Liven up your history or government class with "Blind Justice", a collection of mock trials that bring four cases to life in your classroom. Students will take the lead roles in prosecuting and defending those accused and testifying for and against the defendants. Critical thinking, problem solving, and oral presentation skills will be put to the test as each side tries to outwit the other. State standards will be met by these activities, while the trials offer a fun and engaging way to present a performance-based assessment to your students. The four trials (Sacco and Vanzetti, the Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping, the Nuremberg War Crimes trials, and Julius and Ethel Rosenberg) are designed so either side can win. The book also includes step-by-step instructions for students and teachers and follow-up activities about the real trials and how they compare to what played out in your classroom. Blind Justice offers an intriguing look at history, government, and the court system--one that all students will enjoy

High-quality teaching and learning in science is vital to our economic future and to our ability to perform effectively as citizens in a democratic society, but all too often science education in schools is not as strong as it might be. Science Strategies for Students With Gifts and Talents examines some common pitfalls in how we teach science in school and then suggests ways teachers can improve their practice in this area. Specific sections cover elementary, middle, and high school science instruction, with a focus on how teachers can be effective in meeting the needs of the academically advanced and high-ability learners in their classroom at each of these levels.
