Dotyka dzieci w szkolach niższego, wyższego, średniego i wyższego szczebla na calym świecie. 24% dzieci w zwyklych szkolach podstawowych w Kenii doświadcza LD. Jego przyczyna jest związana z czynnikami zewnętrznymi w środowisku uczenia się. Sprawia, że dzieci są pozbawione praw obywatelskich, rozwijają niską samoocenę i ostatecznie porzucają szkolę, jeśli nie uzyskają pomocy. Skuteczna identyfikacja i interwencja następuje w wieku 9 lat (klasa 3). Wczesna identyfikacja odbywa się poprzez: Diagnozę r żnicową - wyeliminowanie możliwości upośledzenia wzroku, sluchu i umyslowego.
