Anemia among women of childbearing age in Burundi doubled in prevalence between 2010 and 2016-2017. Constant this evolution contrary to the SDGs and global nutrition targets, this study aims to explore the associated factors. It exploits data from the Burundi Demographic and Health Survey (EDSB III), carried out in 2016-2017. It uses descriptive and explanatory analyses. The results show that the main factors influencing anemia in women are education level, household standard of living and province of residence. These results point to the problem of female education in general, and nutritional education in particular. They also show the challenges imposed by household poverty and the low capacity for community resilience in the face of food shortages. Thus, the continuation of the primary education program for all, as well as the enrolment of girls in school, strategies to increase resilience in provinces hit by climatic hazards, support for rural women's associations, etc. seem to be the best ways to fight anaemia effectively.

Erwin Schrödinger's 1944 classic What Is Life? is a small book that occupies a large place among the great written works of the twentieth century. It is said that it helped launch the modern revolution in biology and genetics, and inspired a generation of scientists, including Watson and Crick, to explore the riddle of life itself. Now, more than sixty years later, science writer Ed Regis offers an intriguing look at where this quest stands today. Regis ranges widely here, illuminating many diverse efforts to solve one of science's great mysteries. He examines the genesis of Schrödinger's great book--which first debuted as three public lectures in Dublin--and details the fantastic reception his ideas received, both in Europe and America. Regis also introduces us to the work of a remarkable group of scientists who are attempting literally to create life from scratch, starting with molecular components that they hope to assemble into the world's first synthetic living cell. The book also examines how scientists have unlocked the "three secrets of life," describes the key role played by ATP ("the ultimate driving force of all life"), and outlines the many attempts to explain how life first arose on earth, a puzzle that has given birth to a wide range of theories (which Francis Crick dismissed as "too much speculation running after too few facts"), from the primordial sandwich theory, to the theory that life arose in clay, in deep-sea vents, or in oily bubbles at the seashore, right up to Freeman Dyson's "theory of double origins." Written in a lively and accessible style, and bringing together a wide range of cutting-edge research, What is Life? makes an illuminating contribution to this ancient and ever-fascinating debate.

In the early 1980s Donald Barthelme was widely recognized in the United States as one of the major figures in contemporary postmodernism, a key and central experimental writer. In this study, originally published in 1982, two leading critics present Donald Barthelme’s work in its most radical and innovative aspects. Their essay combines textual analysis, critical theory and cultural awareness and aims at investigating the impact of Barthelme’s fictions on the reader and at defining the type of reading experience and pleasure such fictions can produce. Included in the aspects of Donald Barthelme’s work discussed here are his use of language, his sense of comedy, his parody, his vision of the modern self as fragmented and displaced, and his relation to psychoanalysis and other forms of art.

Ever since the history of science emerged as a discipline at the heart of the Age of Enlightenment in the eighteenth century, Arabic science or at least certain sectors of it - have constantly been cited by the philosophers and historians of science. In this book the editors have tried to restore to Arabic science its true aspect and place by emphasizing the analysis of ancient sources and by devoting some chapters to its extensions in Latin and Hebrew. The book as a whole covers the history of Arabic science over about seven centuries.
