When an unknown man is found murdered in Paradise, Jesse Stone will have his hands full finding out who he was - and what he was seeking. When a body is discovered at the lake in Paradise, Police Chief Jesse Stone is surprised to find he recognizes the murder victim - the man had been at the same AA meeting as Jesse the evening before. But otherwise, Jesse has no clue as to the man's identity. He isn't a local, nor does he have ID on him, nor does any neighboring state have a reported missing person matching the man's description. Their single lead is from a taxi company that recalls dropping off the mysterious stranger outside the gate at the mansion of one of the wealthiest families in town... Meanwhile, after Jesse survives a hail of gunfire on his home, he wonders if it could be related to the mysterious murder. When both Molly Crane and Suitcase Simpson also become targets, it's clear someone has an axe to grind against the entire Paradise Police Department.

The town of Paradise receives a tragic shock when the mayor is discovered dead, his body lying in an open grave on a property on the lake. It's ostensibly suicide, but Jesse has his doubts... especially because the piece of land where the man was found is the subject of a contentious and dodgy land deal. Two powerful moguls are fighting over the right to buy and develop the prime piece of real estate, and one of them has brought in a hired gun, an old adversary of Jesse's: Wilson Cromartie, aka Crow. Meanwhile, the town council is debating if they want to sacrifice Paradise's stately character for the economic boost of a glitzy new development. Tempers are running hot, and as the deaths begin to mount, it's increasingly clear that the mayor may have standing in the wrong person's way.

Carolina Garcia-Ramirez is a rising star in national politics, taking on the establishment with her progressive agenda. Tough, outspoken, and driven, the young congresswoman has ignited a new conversation in Boston about race, poverty, health care, and the environment. Now facing her second campaign, she finds herself not only fighting a tight primary with an old guard challenger but also contending with numerous death threats coming from hundreds of suspects. When her chief of staff reaches out to Spenser for security and help finding the culprits of what he believes to be the most credible threats, Garcia-Ramirez is less than thrilled. Since her first grassroots run, she's used to the antipathy and intimidation women of color often face when seeking power. To her, it's all noise. But it turns out an FBI agent disagrees, warning Spenser that Garcia-Ramirez might be in real danger this time. It doesn't take long for Spenser to cross paths with an extremist group called The Minutemen, led by a wealthy Harvard grad named Bishop Graves. Although Graves is a social media sensation, pushing an agenda of white supremacy and toxic masculinity, he denies he's behind the attacks. As the primary nears and threats become a deadly plot, it's up to Spenser, Hawk, and a surprise trusted ally to ensure the congresswoman is safe. This is Spenser doing what he does best, living by a personal code and moral compass that can't ever be broken.

A few months ago, Robert Pattinson was a virtual unknown with only a supporting role in the Harry Potter films to his name. Now, the 22 year old British actor is everywhere, provoking headline-grabbing global hysteria and seemingly holding Hollywood in the palm of his hand. This sudden rise to fame is due to his starring role in a new blockbuster film Twilight, based on the Twilight Saga written by Stephanie Meyer, the story of a passionate affair between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a teenage girl and a brooding vampire. Revised and updated to tie-in with the November 2009 release of New Moon the sequel to the box office hit Twilight.
Robert Grosseteste, Exegete and Philosopher
Robert Grosseteste was one of the most eminent and universal scholars of his time. At his death, in 1253, as Bishop of Lincoln, he left behind him a literary heritage, which contemporary scholarship is still trying to come fully to terms with. This volume offers a series of studies concerning aspects of Grosseteste’s thought on religious and metaphysical themes. Paying particular attention to questions of chronology and sources, the author aims to elicit his deeper presuppositions and to isolate certain of his intuitions that seem quite original. The articles include two unedited writings by Grosseteste, on the sun and on human nature, and place the accent not on the possible unity of his intellectual initiatives, but on their variety - concerning language and thought, the nature of light, the Ten Commandments and the Christian conscience, mystical union and the reasons for the incarnation.

A fresh and sympathetic interpretation of Robert Southey's changing social and political ideas, shedding new light on contemporary thought. Like William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey has been remembered not just as a romantic poet but also as a political apostate. In the 1790s he was fired by enthusiasm for the French Revolution, and was knownas a radical and a republican. By the 1820s, however, he was not only the poet laureate, but a fierce conservative who opposed the reform of Church and State. Yet at the same time his reactionary politics were mixed with anxietyabout the effects of industrialisation and the growth of poverty, leading some commentators to view him as a precursor of socialism and collectivism. This book charts the development of Southey's social and political ideas inorder to throw light on the problems generated by the concept of 'romantic apostasy'. It draws on his poetry, histories, journalism and letters to show that his intellectual evolution was more complex than has previously been thought. In so doing it touches on numerous themes: theological politics, national character, the 'social question', providence and history, questions of race, empire and civilisation as well as the nature of republicanism and the evolution of conservatism. As such it is an important contribution towards the wider understanding of the intellectual aftermath of the French Revolution in Britain. DAVID M. CRAIG is a lecturer in History at the University ofDurham.

Robert Newton Baskin and the Making of Modern Utah

Robert Newton Baskin and the Making of Modern Utah

John Gary Maxwell

For years Robert Newton Baskin (1837 1918) may have been the most hated man in Utah. Yet his promotion of federal legislation against polygamy in the late 1800s and his work to bring the Mormon territory into a republican form of government were pivotal in Utah s achievement of statehood. The results of his efforts also contributed to the acceptance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by the American public. In this engaging biography the first full-length analysis of the man author John Gary Maxwell presents Baskin as the unsung father of modern Utah. As Maxwell shows, Baskin s life was defined by conflict and paradox.Educated at Harvard Law School, Baskin lived as a member of a minority: a gentile in Mormon Utah. A loner, he was highly respected but not often included in the camaraderie of contemporary non-Mormon professionals. When it came to the Saints, Baskin s role in the legal aftermath of the Mountain Meadows massacre did not endear him to the Mormon people or their leadership. He was convinced that Brigham Young made John D. Lee the scapegoat the planner and perpetrator of the massacre to obscure complicity of the LDS church.Baskin was successful in Utah politics despite using polygamy as a sledgehammer against Utah s theocratic government and despite his role as a federal prosecutor. He was twice elected mayor of Salt Lake City, served in the Utah legislature, and became chief justice of the Utah Supreme Court. He was also a visionary city planner the force behind the construction of the Salt Lake City and County Building, which remains the architectural rival of the city s Mormon temple. For more than a century historians have maligned Baskin or ignored him. Maxwell brings the man to life in this long-overdue exploration of a central figure in the history of Utah and of the LDS church."
