Nucleosides and their analogues are of immense importance and they are an established class of clinically useful medicinal agents possessing antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer activity. This has led to our interest in the search for a synthesis of new nucleoside molecule i.e., thymidine analogues that may be screened for broad-spectrum biological activity. Thymidine analogues, containing heterocyclic systems, are known to possess various therapeutic activities for the treatment of human diseases. Thymidine analogues such as telbibudine (thymidine α-L-nucleoside analogue), AZT (3׳-azido-2׳,3׳-dideoxythymidine), stavudine, zalcitabine are being used as antiviral, and HIV, drugs. In our present investigation, four new series of nucleoside derivatives were synthesized from thymidine (1) via only two-step reactions by direct acylation method and furnished the 5 -O-acyl thymidine derivatives in good yields. To obtain newer products for antimicrobial evaluation studies, the 5 -O-thymidine derivatives were further transformed into two series of 2 ,3 -di-O-acyl derivatives (scheme 1-4) containing a wide variety of functionalities in a single molecular framework.

Carbohydrates play an essential role in our daily life. The study of carbohydrates is one of the most exciting fields in organic chemistry. Even carbohydrates are key molecules in nature with multiple roles in biological processes. For a long time, carbohydrates have been very attractive field for scientists due to their immense importance in biological systems. They are the source of the metabolic energy supply, but also for the fine-tuning of cell-cell interactions and other crucial processes. As a consequence, the chemistry and biochemistry of carbohydrate derivatives is an essential part of biochemical and medicinal research. Owing to the many functional groups and the configurationally variety, the number of possible carbohydrate derivatives is huge. Therefore, the synthesis of carbohydrate derivatives is complicated, generally requiring many steps, and a range of selectivity problems has to be solved. Newly synthesized derivatives of galactopyranoside were screened for biological studies i.e., in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities against several human and phytopathogenic microorganisms. Anticancer activities were also evaluated for pharmaceutical purposes.

Traditional electrical systems are one way in nature in which electricity is generated at a few central power plants and delivered to consumers through transmission and distribution grids. Digital transformation changed the traditional electrical grid into the smart grid which is considered as a next-generation power grid. VANETs which is a part of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) offer traveler safety, reduced traffic congestion, provide vehicle information, and contribute to protecting natural resources. It offers Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I), and Vehicle to Grid (V2G) communication facilities for the smooth operation of VANET. Security is of utmost importance in advanced communication networks such as smart grid and Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs). The book focuses initially on analyzing and solving knapsack problem as a cryptanalysis problem.
