Return to the seductively dangerous world of Sylvia Day's epic Marked series.EVE OF WARFARELycans, vampires, and cherubs... oh my.All Evangeline Hollis wants is to stay out of trouble long enough to lose the Mark of Cain, which drafted her into hunting demons for God. A former agnostic, she's still recovering from being the latest point of contention between the two men in her life--Cain and Abel. Now she's working for a cherub who thinks putting her undercover as a housewife is the best way to ferret out a rogue vampire hiding in an idyllic Orange County, California residential community.Eve knows when she's being used as a pawn in the celestial political game. Now, she just has to figure out who's the greater threat: the vampire she's hunting, the cherub yanking her chain, or the two brothers vying to play the role of her spouse--'til death do them part. Which in her line of work, could happen any minute...EVE OF SIN CITYSin City--Las Vegas--is home to humans and Infernals of all sorts: the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you ask Evangeline Hollis, "good" is in short supply, "ugly" might be amusing, but "bad" is most definitely her business. Eve is a Mark, a heavenly bounty hunter, and Las Vegas is her territory.

Historically Black people have placed their collective weight upon and trust in a four-legged stool. This stool has been the chair we have pulled up to each and every table of inclusion and exclusion. The legs of this stool have been held up by the Black Church, Black College, Black Family and Black Citizenship. These proverbial legs will stand in each chapter of this book along with a biblical parallel. If any one of these legs were to collapse, the entire stool crumbles and our people's stability is lost as well.

Concept of Sin

Concept of Sin

Josef Pieper; Edward T.S.J. Oakes

In ordinary conversation, including among the 'educated,' the word 'sin' rarely gets mentioned except when one is trying to be coy or facetious. As Thomas Mann once said, 'sin' is nowadays 'an amusing word used only when one is trying to get a laugh.' But this small work will interpret sin in its true - that is, serious - meaning. What will emerge from its analysis is the discovery that the concept of sin can still serve to unlock the mystery of existence, at least for a thinking that wants to press down to the very foundations. In this work Pieper brings Plato, Augustine, and Thomas Aquinas into a living dialogue with T. S. Eliot, Andre Gide, even with Jean-Paul Sartre. As he shows in this powerful work, none of these writers leaves any doubt that the fact of sin is central: It is the willful denial of one's own life-ground, a denial that alone rightly bears the name 'sin.' Paradoxically, this reality is both willed and yet also pre-given, that is, both adventitious and yet somehow innate to our existence - a paradox which, next to the mystey of existence itself, is the most impenetrable mystery of all.

The Geography of Faith

The Geography of Faith

Robert Coles; Daniel Berrigan S.J.

A classic of faith-based activism-updated for a new generation. Why was Daniel Berrigan wanted by the FBI? Why did Robert Coles harbor a fugitive? "Listen in to the conversations between these two great teachers as they struggle with what it means to put your faith to the test. Discover how their story of challenging the staus quo during a time of great political, religious, and social change is just as applicable to our lives today." "Thirty years ago, at the height of U.S. involvement in the Viet Nam War, Daniel Berrigan, a Jesuit priest, was wanted by the FBI for his nonviolent protest activities. He hid in the house of Robert Coles, who would later win the Pulitzer Prize. The two began a dialogue that encompasses a fascinating range of topics, from war, psychology, and violence, to social institutions, compassion, activism, and family life." "With this expanded, anniversary edition of a classic, new generations of readers can examine for themselves how spirituality is not only for ourselves, but often demands action and personal risk in the public arena." "New to this edition, Robert Coles offers historical perspective on this turbulent time and assesses the progress of faith-based activism in the years since. Daniel Berrigan challenges today's activists in a new afterword." Finally, a glossary of terms helps to clarify the key people, place, and movements that are often the subject of the Coles/Berrigan conversations.
