Basic to Advanced NX12 Modeling, Drafting and Assemblies is the newly revised version of our previous CAD training textbooks. We have greatly expanded the content, detail, and exercises included in this edition.Topics include: Synchronous and Master Modeling; Fundamental and Intermediate Curves; Editing Entities; Design, Reference, Surface and Detail Features; Sheet Metal Features; True Studio Task; and Injection-Molded Parts and Castings. Using NX12 is like playing a piano. In the same way that chords are as important as individual notes, NX commands are far more powerful when used in concert with others. Our book makes an effort to show not only the details of the most important commands, but the powerful combinations that we have used to bring about excellent designs. This manual teaches you the modeling, assemblies, and drafting functionality including all the latest and greatest tools found only in NX12.

Princeton University's Elias Stein was the first mathematician to see the profound interconnections that tie classical Fourier analysis to several complex variables and representation theory. His fundamental contributions include the Kunze-Stein phenomenon, the construction of new representations, the Stein interpolation theorem, the idea of a restriction theorem for the Fourier transform, and the theory of Hp Spaces in several variables. Through his great discoveries, through books that have set the highest standard for mathematical exposition, and through his influence on his many collaborators and students, Stein has changed mathematics. Drawing inspiration from Stein's contributions to harmonic analysis and related topics, this volume gathers papers from internationally renowned mathematicians, many of whom have been Stein's students. The book also includes expository papers on Stein's work and its influence. The contributors are Jean Bourgain, Luis Caffarelli, Michael Christ, Guy David, Charles Fefferman, Alexandru D. Ionescu, David Jerison, Carlos Kenig, Sergiu Klainerman, Loredana Lanzani, Sanghyuk Lee, Lionel Levine, Akos Magyar, Detlef Muller, Camil Muscalu, Alexander Nagel, D. H. Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions do not only warm our planet but also acidify our oceans. It is currently unclear to which degree Earth’s climate and marine life will be impacted by these changes but information from Earth history, particularly the geochemical signals of past environmental changes stored in the fossil remains of marine organisms, can help us predict possible future changes. This book aims to be a primer for scientists who seek to apply boron proxies in marine carbonates to estimate past seawater carbonate chemistry and atmospheric pCO2. Boron proxies (d11B and B/Ca) were introduced nearly three decades ago, with subsequent strides being made in understanding their mechanistic functioning. This text reviews current knowledge about the aqueous systematics, the inorganic and biological controls on boron isotope fractionation and incorporation into marine carbonates, as well as the analytical techniques for measurement of boron proxies. Laboratory and field calibrations of the boron proxies are summarized, and similarities between modern calibrations are explored to suggest estimates for proxy sensitivities in marine calcifiers that are now extinct. Example applications illustrate the potential for reconstructing paleo-atmospheric pCO2 from boron isotopes. Also explored are the sensitivity of paleo-ocean acidity and pCO2 reconstructions to boron isotope proxy systematics that are currently less well understood, including the elemental and boron isotopic composition of seawater through time, seawater alkalinity, temperature and salinity, and their collective impact on the uncertainty of paleo-reconstructions. The B/Ca proxy is based on the same mechanistic principles as the boron isotope proxy, but empirical calibrations suggest seawater pH is not the only controlling factor. B/Ca therefore has the potential to provide a second carbonate parameter that could be paired with d11B to fully constrain the ocean carbonate system, but the associated uncertainties are large. This text reviews and examines what is currently known about the B/Ca proxy systematics. As more scientists embark on characterizing past ocean acidity and atmospheric pCO2, Boron in Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology provides a resource to introduce geoscientists to the opportunities and complications of boron proxies, including potential avenues to further refine them.

Study moderators examined interactions between children's parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems (PNS and SNS) activity in order to achieve a greater specificity in the prediction of externalizing problems in the context of interparental conflict. Findings are robust across the three studies and provide the first reported evidence of interactions between PNS and SNS activity. Findings extend current theory indicating the importance of multisystem investigations for clarifying inconsistencies and discrepancies in the literature linking environmental stress, physiological responses, and child adjustment.

In today's world of managed care—characterized by limited mental health resources, emphasis on accountability, concerns of third-party payers, and consumer need—the demand for mental health professionals to use briefer therapeutic approaches is on the rise. Fully 84% of all clinicians are doing some form of planned brief therapy (6-20 sessions per year per patient). Yet despite clinical advances and outcome data that demonstrate the effectiveness of short-term therapy, many therapists—in fact, 90% of those whose theoretical orientation is psychodynamic rather than cognitive-behavioral—are reluctant to learn briefer interventions, seeing value only in long-term, depth-oriented work. The second edition of this Concise Guide is intended to help educate both beginning and experienced clinicians in the strategies and techniques of time-attentive models and to foster more positive and optimistic attitudes toward using these important therapies. • The seven therapeutic models presented here—including an entirely new chapter on time-limited group therapy—highlight the importance of the interpersonal perspective. • The seven models, one per chapter, represent well-established short-term approaches to clinical issues that therapists commonly encounter in their clinical practices. These models also have clearly defined intervention techniques and formulation strategies and can be used within the 10- to 20-session time frame of most managed care settings. • The first part of each chapter dealing with a therapeutic model lists the various presenting problems the authors deem most suitable for treatment by that particular approach. The authors discuss the overall framework of each model, selection criteria, goals, therapeutic tasks and strategies, empirical support, and relevance for managed care, with clinical cases to illustrate the application of each model. The authors include updated chapters on supportive, time-limited, and interpersonal therapies; time-limited dynamic psychotherapy; short-term dynamic therapy for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder; brief dynamic therapy for patients with substance abuse disorders; an entirely new chapter on time-limited group therapy; and a final chapter on the reciprocal relationship between pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Meant to complement the more detailed information found in lengthier psychiatric texts, this Concise Guide (it is designed to fit into a jacket or lab coat pocket) is a practical and convenient reference for psychiatrists, psychiatric residents, and medical students working in a variety of treatment settings, such as inpatient psychiatry units, outpatient clinics, consultation-liaison services, and private offices.

The sufferings of “ordinary” people under harsh economic conditions can eventually lead to the fall of governments. Given this fact, it becomes important to know how “ordinary” people live-what privations they suffer and what strategies they use to survive in times of economic crisis. The Mexican Urban Household provides this information for Mexico near the end of the twentieth century. Mexico is now a predominantly urban nation, and this study is the definitive work on the strategies of self-defense of its urban households. It is based on surveys of nearly 10,000 households, conducted during twenty years of field work in five very different cities, with the help of a staff of more than twenty Mexican social scientists, engineers, architects, and social workers. Far from being a compilation of undigested statistics, however, The Mexican Urban Household uses its rich data to vividly reveal how Mexican families use their every resource to defend themselves against a political and economic system that overwhelms and exploits them. It describes how families band together, sometimes with three generations in one small house, to minimize expenses and pool resources. It explores the limited range of available jobs, from secure but scarce bureaucratic positions to more common and less reliable jobs in blue-collar industries and the informal economy. And, most important, it traces the high cost to families, particularly to women, of the endless struggle to make ends meet. These important findings outline the dimensions of the economic crisis for ordinary Mexicans. It will be crucial reading not only for everyone interested in the future of Mexico but also for students of development throughout the Third World.

Clinical research is often thought of as a dry and somewhat arcane pursuit. Not so, assert the editors of Elements of Clinical Research in Psychiatry. The editors, all actively engaged in clinical research, bring this topic to life by combining a boundless enthusiasm for their chosen field with a depth of knowledge rarely seen in the literature. They show that clinical research can be rewarding not only because the research results contribute to improving the welfare of psychiatric patients, but also because the research process itself is exciting. Arguably the definitive guidebook on clinical psychiatric research, this volume discusses • Careers in clinical mental health research—Describes what clinical psychiatric researchers do and how to get started on this career path. • Research design, measurement, and assessment—Covers all aspects of research design, defines and evaluates measurement types, and details various assessment methods (from interviews and questionnaires to lab tests and brain images). • Descriptive and inferential statistics—Shows how statistics are used to analyze and summarize measurement data. • Research support—Provides a roadmap for those seeking research support in the U.S. (more than 90% is funded via NIH), detailing how to write grants from the ground up. • Use of human subjects (the Institutional Review Board [IRB]) and ethics and misconduct—Demystifies the often intimidating process of seeking and receiving IRB approval, with tips on how to work with the IRB and complete its consent forms; uses a series of practical scenarios, including a highly publicized case of alleged misconduct, to illustrate complex ethics and misconduct issues. • Writing journal articles, reviewing manuscripts, and giving scientific presentations—Presents the nuts and bolts of publishing journal articles; gives step-by-step advice for reviewing manuscripts and giving oral presentations, symposia, poster sessions, and colloquia. Carefully chosen appendixes provide readers with additional information they can use right away, augmented by an index and detailed reference list for further investigation. Anyone considering clinical psychiatric research as a career option will find in this succinct and eminently practical volume the single source they need. Practicing psychiatrists interested in specific areas of clinical research, such as human subject use or biomedical ethics, will also find much of interest here. Replete with useful information, these stimulating discussions provide the building blocks for embarking upon—and enhancing—a successful career in clinical psychiatric research.
