It's Grandad's birthday & Colin wants to send him a present in the mail... except in a massive mixup, Colin sends a Pickle instead Join the fun & imaginative adventure through the mailbox as Colin chases the pickle, meets the Postage Bunnies & learns that Grandads love their Grandkids, even when they get Pickles for their birthday Kids will be imagining their own adventures in the mailbox, and will be eager to start sending pickles to their Grandparents This story is perfect fans of books such as Room on the Broom & The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, The Worst Princess & Dogs Don't Do Ballet by Anna Kemp, and Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin.Read the Whole Story Below...For this story to begin, an introduction must be made. Our young lad's name is Colin, his Grandad's birthday is today. With gift in hand and spring in step, young Colin made his way, to the old and rusty postbox that sat on Rathdowne Lane. The postbox neared, he gave a grin as he picked up his pace... Instead he got all twisted up and fell flat on his face The stamps flew high, the gift flew low and then here comes a riddle, for from his pocket flying fast out shot a juicy pickle. It hit the stamps and one stuck true then flew into the box... Colin leapt up and pulled the lid His eyes grew wide with shock Where should be letters piled high with stamps and envelopes, instead there was a staircase leading where? He did not know...He jumped into the postbox and ran down those spiral stairs. There ahead he saw the pickle being carried by a... hare? A postage hare in uniform official as they come, was carrying that pickle at quite a speedy run.It would not stop at Colin's shout so chase had to be made... Never had a stranger sight been seen 'neath Rathdowne Lane.Postage Hares all stopped and stared as Colin chased and chased. That postage hare was faster than young Colin had ever faced.Up and up and right and left and up and left and right. That pickle was almost in his reach, he reached with all his might His hand wrapped round that pickle, the hare let out a cry... It threw them out the tunnel and up into the sky And what a throw - so strong and true Over homes and trees and rocks. Colin landed perfectly Inside a letterbox Stuffed neat inside that box was he and feeling rather sad... The lid went up, two eyes looked down, The eyes of his Granddad Colin leapt up from that box Then sadly gave a sniff "I only have this pickle, I lost your birthday gift..."Granddad laughed and hugged young Colin, giving him a tickle... he didn't care about the gift, he just said "I love pickles "

Excerpt: We are all amply provided, with moral maxims, which we hold with more or less confidence, but an insight into their significance is not attained without reflection and some serious effort. Yet, surely, in a field in which there are so many differences of opinion, clearness of insight and breadth of view are eminently desirable. It is with a view to helping students of ethics in our universities and outside of them to a clearer comprehension of the significance of morals and the end of ethical endeavor, that this book has been written.I have, in the Notes appended to it, taken the liberty of making a few suggestions to teachers, some of whom have fewer years of teaching behind them than I have. I make no apology for writing in a clear and untechnical style, nor for reducing to a minimum references to literatures in other tongues than our own. These things are in accord with the aim of the volume.

The Unknown Universe: A New Exploration of Time, Space, and Modern Cosmology
On March 21, 2013, the European Space Agency released a map of the afterglow of the Big Bang. Taking in 440 sextillion kilometres of space and 13.8 billion years of time, it is physically impossible to make a better map: we will never see the early universe in more detail. On the one hand, such a view is the apotheosis of modern cosmology, on the other, it threatens to undermine almost everything we hold cosmologically sacrosanct. The map contains anomalies that challenge our understanding of the universe. It will force us to revisit what is known and what is unknown, to construct a new model of our universe. This is the first book to address what will be an epoch-defining scientific paradigm shift. Stuart Clark will ask if Newton's famous laws of gravity need to be rewritten; if dark matter and dark energy are just celestial phantoms? Can we ever know what happened before the Big Bang? What's at the bottom of a black hole? Are there universes beyond our own? Does time exist? Are the once immutable laws of physics changing?

This book makes no pretense of giving to the world a new theory of the intellectual operations. Its claim to attention, if it possess any, is grounded on the fact that it is an attempt, not to supersede, but to embody and systematize, the best ideas which have been either promulgated on its subject by speculative writers, or conformed to by accurate thinkers in their scientific inquiries.

George Stuart Fullerton (1859-1925) was an American philosopher and psychologist. Fullerton was born at Fatehgarh, India, the son of the Rev. Robert Stuart Fullerton. He came to this country as a youth. He graduated in 1879 from the University of Pennsylvania and in 1884 from Yale Divinity School; and returned to Pennsylvania to be an instructor, adjunct professor, and dean of the department of philosophy, dean of the college, and vice provost of the university. In 1904 he was appointed professor of philosophy at Columbia University, and served as head of the department. He was the host of the first annual meeting of the American Psychological Association in 1892 at the University of Pennsylvania, and the APA's fifth president, in 1896. In 1884 he married Miss Rebekah Daingerfield Smith of Alexandria, Va., who died in 1892. Five years later he married Julia Winslow Dickerson of Philadelphia, his widow. There were no children. In 1914, while he was exchange professor at the University of Vienna, World War I broke out. He was Lecturing at Munich (Germany) when Interned. Fullerton was imprisoned as a civilian enemy national. He remained imprisoned for four years, until the end of the war, and conditions were so harsh that he returned to the U.S. with his health permanently damaged. (Scottish psychologist Henry J. Watt suffered a similar fate.) Nearly an invalid for the last decade of his life, Fullerton committed suicide at the age of 66.

Like any young boy born in the latter years of the Victorian age Albert Young dreamed of adventure and travelling but they were all dashed when an assassins bullet was fired in Sarajevo in 1914 and a world war began.Eager to do his bit for King and Country he joined up but soon learnt the harsh reality of life in the trenches and for the next few years somehow survived where so many of his friends did not. Because of his talent with a Lee Enfield .303 rifle he was seconded to a special unit and was soon in demand as a sniper. He became so proficient that the Germans called him 'Die Viper' but eventually it took its toll and when his last victim was a young boy not old enough to have started shaving or to have known the joy of laying with a woman he asked for a transfer.Due to the compassion of his commanding office Captain Wilkinson he was first sent to a sanatorium and then spent the last few months of the war in a clerical position.Finding work afterwards was not easy but a letter out of the blue brought him back into contact with Wilkinson who had been tasked in setting up a department to deal with terrorism on the British mainland.Young is thrown into the middle of a war with Irish nationalists who are seeking to kill as many of the Cabinet as possible as well as destroying over a square mile of London with explosives that would have dwarfed Guy Fawkes' attempt.

Further Confessions of a Small Press Racketeer is a continuation of the columns and essays that comprised Stuart's 2005 release, Confessions of a Small Press Racketeer. Again, equal parts literary memoir, reckless tirade, and unsolicited advice for the aspiring writer, Further Confessions is drawn largely from Stuart Ross's notorious "Hunkamooga" column, his blog entries, essays for subTerrain magazine and other online venues. We bring them together here in their collected brilliance: alternately snarky, sincere, touching, honest, and always opinionated, Stuart's "confessions" are essential reading for any literary confessional. This volume offers its readers a roller-coaster journey into the mind of one of Canada's most committed small press activists. Praise for Confessions of a Small Press Racketeer, vol. 1: "Confessions of a Small Press Racketeer is a wonderful book-funny, outrageous, and acute. I'll even say it's the best short-essay collection about the writing life I've read in ages." (Lynne Van Luven, Malahat Review) "For a quick and dirty breath of fresh air, it's difficult to beat renegade urban poet Stuart Ross's latest effort, Confessions of a Small Press Racketeer ... No reformed baby boomer or slumming trust-funder, Ross has the battle scars and knows poetry isn't about flowers and meadows, it's about blood and guts." (Stephen Knight, Quill & Quire) "The book is a must for anyone working as a poet in Canada, with standout pieces on the politics ofwriting for free, open mic readings, poetic bitterness, chapbook and zine publishing, and the requisite but never-funnier grouch advice to young poets, salubriously titled Stop Bugging Me Already!'" (Prairie Fire) "...no pulled punches here ... this is writing that works because, as with all good confessions, it's from the heart but comes by way of the brain." (Vancouver Review)

Five Trophies and a Funeral: The Building and Rebuilding of Durham County Cricket Club is the story of how English cricket's youngest first-class county quickly became the country's top team, before overstretching themselves financially to the brink of extinction. When Durham joined the professional game in 1992 they aspired to be a major on-field force and a home to top international cricket. The high demands put on them as a condition of entry, together with their own lofty ambitions, pushed the club to five major trophies in seven seasons while providing England with top-quality players reared in the North East. But striving for ever more at a time of economic downturn led them to live beyond their means, and they were heavily punished for overspending that the authorities partly encouraged. Now they are looking to restore past glories under the chairmanship of Sir Ian Botham. Part fairy tale, part cautionary story, Five Trophies explains how Durham arrived where they are, and where they aim to go next.
