The purpose of this Journal is to create a safe space and/or opportunity for children/young adults to express themselves without feeling the pressure of society and the worlds criticism. Many children/ young adults are introverts seeking shelter from day-to-day activities, without having to share with the older generation, who may not understand their feelings. A safe haven, for those with a voice, yet not ready to speak."Tell Me The Tea Gratitude Journal" serves as a teaching tool, by providing a new word of the day, expanding vocabulary skills. The journal provides daily affirmations, to instill the grooming of loving themselves, and finally a safe space to express themselves without judgment. This Journal revolves around growth and allows for reflection of growth. The person they are today, to the person they will become years from now; and compare the feelings. Enjoy the journey.Love Heaven

Maybe... maybe not.In this coming-of-age story, Katie's brother Wasyl sees his widowed mother struggling to buy food and pay bills. He wants to get a job to help her and his sisters, but Mama insists that he not work in the mines as so many other boys his age are doing. He wishes he had a father to guide him through the harsh realities of growing up in coal country, but Wasyl's father is a big secret that no one ever discusses. The only thing Wasyl knows about his father is what Mama always says, "the mines killed him." Then one day the truth comes out in the most traumatic way. There is so much he doesn't understand but forced to face the truth, Wasyl wrestles with the question: Is it kinder to keep secrets, or to deal with them honestly and openly even if it hurts? "I will chop off your feet so you cannot run off again." Wide-eyed, fear holds my breath. She swings. UUGH The knife-edge bites into the earth far from my quaking feet. I am flabbergasted by Grandmother's abysmal aim. "You didn't do a very good job," my cheeky self thinks and as the tension snaps, I am overtaken by fits of laughter. Grandmother cannot contain herself at the sight of hysterical me. She doubles over. Till tears drip from our chins, we laugh and laugh together. Never, in our wildest dreams, could we have imagined where those feet would take me. Excerpt from Tell My Sister Where I Am and Other Stories

Focusing on three South African communities the authors dismiss the idea that some groups are voiceless, arguing that they are being deliberately ignored by dominant news media The dominant news media are often accused of reflecting an 'elite bias', privileging and foregrounding the interests of a small segment of society while ignoring the narratives of the majority. The authors of Tell Our Story investigate this problem and offer a hands-on demonstration of listening journalism and research in practice. In the process they dismiss the idea that some groups are voiceless, arguing that what is often described in such terms is mostly a matter of those groups being deliberately ignored. Focusing their attention on three very different South African communities they delve into the life and struggle narratives of each, exposing the divide between the stories told by the people who actually live in the communities and the way in which those stories have been understood and shaped by the media. The three communities are those living in the Glebelands hostel complex in Durban where over 100 residents have been killed in politically motivated violence in the past few years; the Xolobeni community on the Wild Coast, which has been resisting the building of a new toll road and a dune mining venture; and Thembelihle, a settlement south-west of Johannesburg that has been resisting removal for many years. The book concludes with a set of practical guidelines for journalists on the practice of listening journalism.

Everything children really want to know about sexuality and bodies-and aren't afraid to ask. This book collects questions asked by boys and girls and answers them directly: the questions are real, the answers honest and the images funny. How much sex education do children need? As much as they ask for, say the experts. And exactly what do children want to know? Ask them! This book collects questions asked anonymously by children in classes about the human body, love and sexuality by experienced sex educationist Katharina von der Gathen. The answers are both direct and warm-hearted, giving children the information they really want to know in a form they can relate to. What is so important about the body? Why do bodies grow hair? Why do people kiss? Is it embarrassing to have sex? Why do breasts hang down? What does it feel like to be in love? Can a grandmother have children? What is a hormone? Can a child fart when it's inside a mother's body? What is sexy?
