Mum has Dementia

Mum has Dementia

Veronica Woods

Austin Macauley Publishers
2024
nidottu
It was very difficult to know why my mum kept doing the same thing at first and asking me to repeat the same thing over and over again. But I don't mind now, I understand she forgets everything. I write it down on a piece of paper to remind her. I follow her around the house and collect things she puts down; she won't remember where she left them. Some days are hard and I cry but other days it's like playing hide and seek with mum's hand bag. I love my mum very much and I know she loves me too.

Fairy Tales, Myth, and Psychoanalytic Theory

Fairy Tales, Myth, and Psychoanalytic Theory

Veronica L. Schanoes

Ashgate Publishing Limited
2014
sidottu
At the same time that 1970s feminist psychoanalytic theorists like Jean Baker Miller and Nancy Chodorow were challenging earlier models that assumed the masculine psyche as the norm for human development and mental/emotional health, writers such as Anne Sexton, Olga Broumass, and Angela Carter were embarked on their own revisionist project to breathe new life into fairy tales and classical myths based on traditional gender roles. Similarly, in the 1990s, second-wave feminist clinicians continued the work begun by Chodorow and Miller, while writers of fantasy that include Terry Windling, Tanith Lee, Terry Pratchett, and Catherynne M. Valente took their inspiration from revisionist authors of the 1970s. As Schanoes shows, these two decades were both particularly fruitful eras for artists and psychoanalytic theorists concerned with issues related to the development of women's sense of self. Putting aside the limitations of both strains of feminist psychoanalytic theory, their influence is undeniable. Schanoes's book posits a new model for understanding both feminist psychoanalytic theory and feminist retellings, one that emphasizes the interdependence of theory and art and challenges the notion that literary revision involves a masculinist struggle with the writer's artistic forbearers.

One choice can transform you--or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love. Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable--and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so. Designing Clothes

Designing Clothes

Veronica Manlow

Fashion is all around us: we see it, we buy it, we read about it, but most people know little about fashion as a business. Veronica Manlow considers the broader signifi cance of fashion in society, the creative process of fashion design, and how fashion unfolds in an organizational context where design is conceived and executed. To get a true insider's perspective, she became an intern at fashion giant Tommy Hilfi ger. Th ere, she observed and recorded how a business's culture is built on a brand that is linked to the charisma and style of its leader.Fashion firms are not just in the business of selling clothing along with a variety of sidelines. Th ese companies must also sell a larger concept around which people can identify and distinguish themselves from others. Manlow defi nes the four main tasks of a fashion fi rm as creation of an image, translation of that image into a product, presentation of the product, and selling the product. Each of these processes is interrelated and each requires the eff orts of a variety of specialists, who are often in distant locations. Manlow shows how the design and presentation of fashion is infl uenced by changes in society, both cultural and economic. Information about past sales and reception of items, as well as projective research informs design, manufacturing, sales, distribution, and marketing decisions.Manlow offers a comprehensive view of the ways in which creative decisions are made, leading up to the creation of actual styles. She helps to defi ne the contribution fashion fi rms make in upholding, challenging, or redefi ning the social order. Readers will fi nd this a fascinating examination of an industry that is quite visible, but little understood.

'Please be my friend," said a desperate 17-year old black girl to each white woman leaving the huge Roman Catholic cathedral in Accra, Ghana on the west coast of Africa that Sunday morning in 1964. I was that girl and what happened to me before and since is an amazing true story that even I find it hard to believe today. But it did unfold exactly as I relate it to you here. At times I think you will feel my helplessness and hope.my pain and pleasure.the cruelty that some men and women can mask.my failings and my faith that sustained me then and guide me now.and the unselfish kindness and generosity of so many good people who came to my rescue during the darkest day of my life. Most of all, it celebrates my finest accomplishment and greatest gift - the birth and grow to adulthood of my ten healthy children here and in Africa. Maybe it will indeed serve as a source of inspiration for you. I certainly hope so.

I Corinthians 1:27 (KJV) states, "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty." Expressions from My Heart is about the simple things we see in nature, life's experiences, relationships and praise and worship that teach us to trust and obey God. You will sense times of trouble, sorrow, uncertainty, peace, hope, joy and true LOVE (agape) that can only come from God. As you read relax yourself and allow God to minister to you from beginning to end. May you receive true happiness and peace that emanates from God. Matthew 6:33 (TLB), "But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well what you need, and HE will give them to you if you give HIM first place in your life and live as HE wants you to."
