Sometimes a Great Notion... Isn't, so much.: The Sandwalkers: Mt. Whitney to Death Valley in 1974
In this fascinating and humorous memoir, paper-mill worker Jim Andersen enlists three buddies to join him on an adventure of a lifetime in 1974. To make a name for themselves in the Guinness Book of World Records, the four men hike 143 miles from the highest point in the contiguous United States to the lowest. This means they must trek through treacherous terrain starting at Mt. Whitney in California and ending in Death Valley. In preparing for the trip, which takes the better part of a year, they make one huge mistake. They do not train for the grueling seven-day expedition. Instead, they focus on gathering supplies and even creating a few contraptions to help make their journey easier. Jim and the others learn as they go, making plenty of mistakes along the way. Find out if they succeed in the end or fall short of their goal. Ultimately, they gain important life lessons that only a once-in-a-lifetime trip can teach. Outdoor enthusiasts-and novices-will appreciate this candid account of an incredible journey.

Reminiscences of Early Utah: With Reply to Certain Statements by O. F. Whitney
In late 1866, when Salt Lake City attorney Robert Baskin looked down at the mutilated body of a client, he resolved he would do all in his power to increase federal authority in Utah to ensure that perpetrators of such crimes would not go unpunished. He became the Assistant U.S. Attorney, Salt Lake City mayor, and a Utah Supreme Court justice. Through all this, he was seen as a thorn in the side of the Utah establishment. Even so, readers should appreciate his measured tone and lawyerly objectivity, as well as his graceful prose, indicative of a Harvard education, and his solid documentation intended to convince skeptics. After Reminiscences was published in 1914, Baskin sparred with prominent Mormon writer Orson F. Whitney, who suggested that "doubtless the fear, well-founded it seems, that judges would be sent to Utah as an engine of oppression" was the reason for excesses. Baskin countered, "Yes, without doubt it was 'fear' that inspired disloyal acts--fear the federal government would send judges here to execute impartiality as the law of the land."

Global UX: Design and Research in a Connected World discusses how user experience (UX) practice is changing and how practitioners and teams around the world are creating great user experiences for a global context. The book is based on interviews with practitioners from many countries, working on different types of projects. It looks behind the scenes at what it takes to create a user experience that can work across borders, cultures, and languages. The book begins with a quick look at the world outside of UX. This includes the external forces of change and globalization as well as an overview of how culture affects designers and the UX of products. It considers what global UX means for an individual practitioner, a company, and teams. It then turns to the details of global UX with the process and practice of research in the field; how information is brought home and shared with colleagues; and how it is applied in design. The final chapter presents some thoughts about how to deliver value both to projects and the users of finished products.
