This engaging memoir details Bill Cunningham’s seven years as president of the University of Texas at Austin and his eight years as chancellor of the UT System. Along the way, he relates accounts of the important issues UT faced during that time, including fraternity hazing, affirmative action, the demise of the Southwest Conference and the creation of the Big 12, apartheid and divestment protests, the future of higher education in Texas, and many other issues. The Texas Way outlines how money, power, politics, and ambition all play roles in the business of running the state’s premier university system, particularly in its relations with the state government. As president and then as chancellor, Cunningham dealt with conflict from all sides of the political spectrum, always striving to protect the university’s interests.Bill Cunningham was at the center of many important issues during the fifteen years he served as president and chancellor. The Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin is pleased to publish Cunningham’s detailed and insightful memoir, which serves as a reminder of how these issues continue to resonate and affect higher education in Texas.

PASTOR. THERE ONCE WAS A TIME when that word alone was held sacred. A time when being a pastor was not a vocation but a calling. Not so much a profession as a confession of the faith and purpose held by those divinely called to the ministry of servant leadership. "The Lord Will Provide: The Life & Times of William H. Copeland Jr." is a reminder of those times. A reminder of the men-and women-who embraced that sacred calling at a time in America when the role of pastor, particularly in the African-American community, entailed wearing the hat of community leader, public servant, spiritual counselor, social advocate and being the unflinching face and voice that spoke truth to power. It was a weighty and perhaps unenviable mission-regarded as both sacred and monumental.

They say "It takes a village."And yet today it can be difficult, if not impossible, for others to penetrate the 'boundaries' that we all seem to build up around ourselves."No thanks. I can figure it out by myself."30 Things invites you to take a step back from that kind of individualistic mindset and consider a different model for your life. One that embraces a larger community. One that doesn't just value advice from others, but actively seeks out such help. One that is open-minded, attentive and committed to positive change. You won't find anything too 'preachy' in these pages. Nor is 30 Things a book filled with lofty aspirations, pious platitudes or impossible goals.Bill Schaberg simply presents thirty different pieces of worthwhile advice that he has been given over the years, tells how each one first came to him, and then relates how he tried to incorporate them into his life.30 Things is a book of practical advice. Advice that - if actually put into practice - can help promote the book's promised goal of "living well".At least, that's been the author's experience.Hence, 30 Things... where he shares advice that he sincerely hopes might work for you too

Why Stocks Go Up and Down is an in depth introduction to stocks and bonds. It explains the basics of of financial statement analysis, cash flow generation, stock price valuation, and more. Commonly misunderstood terms such as "capitalize", "equity," and "diluted earnings" are explained clearly. Stock valuation methods including price/earnings ratio, price/cash flow ratio, and Enterprise Value / EBITDA are covered. The book is about fundamentals; it is not an investment system or "how to make a million dollars in the market". The subtitle, "The Book You Need To Understand Other Investment Books" says it best. That subtitle is the result of comments received from readers over many years.

This is the biography of William (Bill) Stenstrom, who came of age just before World War II, who became an obstetrician-gynecologist, studying and training as a Navy doctor. He began his practice in the Navy and traveled extensively, learning to fly, becoming a pilot and transporting himself and his family on their worldwide travels. He later practiced in the Lane County, Oregon, area, where his children were raised. Throughout and following his career he was active in medical and regional groups. His first book "Stoney's Road," was a book about his grandfather who emigrated from Sweden in 1882. When Bill Stenstrom retirred from the practice of medicine, he began writing a story about the generation of his grandparents, who emigrated from Sweden and went through many trials as they became American citizens. He wrote their story over a period of years and then, once it was published, he was convinced to turn his life into a memoir as well. Sadly, he passed away before he could complete that book in its entirety, although the writing had been completed. His daughter, Milly, took the reins and directed the coordination of photos and remaining text, bringing the book into being.

We are witnesses to a world-historic achievement. We have made what was once a rarity-entry into old age-into something quite, ordinary. Hundreds of millions of people expect to grow old and will very likely do so. Even better, we have fashioned an old age that routinely yields the happiest years of one's life. At the same time, we work ceaselessly to snatch defeat from the jaws of this great victory. Our times are defined, in part, by a widespread and perilous aging illiteracy. We are told that old age brings only a boring conformity. We are told that aging narrows our range of experiences and diminishes our value. In fact, the opposite is true. People commonly believe and repeat a range of myths, falsehoods and stereotypes about human aging and are unable to answer the most basic questions about the nature of independence and longevity. Principia Senescentis examines the true nature of human aging and exposes the modern mythology that places independence at the heart of dignity.
