Harrisburg Conference, September, 1788 has been considered by academicians and scholars of great significance and value to literature. This forms a part of the knowledge base for future generations. So that the book is never forgotten we have represented this book in a print format as the same form as it was originally first published. Hence any marks or annotations seen are left intentionally to preserve its true nature.
A general critical study of Sidney's life and works, first published in 1977: his life in relation to his works and both in relation to his age. In the late 1570s and early 1580s, when the literary scene in England was barren, Sidney emerged as the right man at the right moment to establish a national literature. In his Defence of Poetry he formulated a poetic which showed 'why and how' imaginative literature could be written in Protestant England; and in his poetry and prose, chiefly in Astrophel and Stella and the two versions of The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia, he revealed that the English language was, as he claimed, 'indeed capable of any excellent exercising of it'. Through the influence of his personality, his critical insight, and his brilliant achievement in both poetry and prose - which Professor Hamilton in this study establishes through careful analysis - Sidney became the central figure of the English literary Renaissance.
Here is a thorough, and long-needed, presentation of the nature of the Pueblo gods and myths. The Pueblo Indians, which include the Hopi, Zuni, and Keres groups, and their ancestors are closely bound to the Plateau region of the United States, comprising much of the area in Utah, Colorado, and-especially in recent years-New Mexico and Arizona. The principal god of the Hopi tribe was and is Masau'u, the god of death. Masau'u is also a god of life in many of its essentials. There is an unmistakable analogy between Masau'u and the Christian Devil, and between Masau'u and the Greek god Hermes, who guided dead souls on their journey to the nether world. Mr. Tyler has drawn many useful comparisons between the religions of the Pueblos and the Greeks. ""Because there is a widespread knowledge of the Greek gods and their ways,"" the author writes, ""many people will thus be at ease with the Pueblo gods and myths.""Of utmost importance is the final chapter of the book, which relates Pueblo cosmology to contemporary Western thought. The Pueblos are men and women who have faced, and are facing, problems common to all mankind. The response of the Pueblos to their challenges has been tempered by the role of religion in their lives. This account of their epic struggle to accommodate themselves and their society to the cosmic order is ""must"" reading for historians, ethnologists, students of comparative religion, and for all who take an interest in the role of religious devotion in their own lives.
“Historical accuracy comes from exhaustive research and a deft writer’s hand. Hamilton’s The Oder Front, 1945 will prove to be the definitive work on the little-understood Nazi defense outside the gates of the German capital.” - Doug McCabe, Curator of the Cornelius Ryan Collection of World War II Papers, Ohio University Nazi Germany's fall is regularly depicted through the dual images of Adolf Hitler directing the final battle for Berlin from his Führerbunker, and the subsequent Soviet victory. This popular view, that Germany's last battle was a deliberate yet fatalistic defence of Berlin planned and conducted by Hitler, is now declared largely a historically inaccurate depiction. Germany's final battle began when Generaloberst Gotthard Heinrici took command of Heeresgruppe Weichsel on 20 March 1945. Heinrici, not Hitler, decided that there was only one strategic course left for Germany - hold the Soviets back along the Oder Front long enough to entice the Western Allies across the Elbe River. He knew two things, that the war was lost and what remained of Germany was destined for postwar Soviet occupation. He believed a protracted defence along the Oder Front would force the Western Allies into the postwar Soviet Zone of Occupation outlined in the Top Secret Allied Plan known as 'Eclipse', thereby sparing millions of Germans in the east the dismal fate of Soviet vengeance everyone knew was at hand. Berlin, Heinrici ordered, would not be defended. The capital of Germany would not become another 'Stalingrad'. In a companion volume to his successful and highly regarded study of the Soviet assault on the city of Berlin, Bloody Streets, author A. Stephan Hamilton describes the planning and execution of the defence of the Oder Front, using previously unpublished personal diaries, post-war interviews, Heeresgruppe Weichsel's war diary and daily command phone logs. In addition to a number of black and white photographs, this study features 64 pages of operational maps reproduced in full colour.
