Ish Murad B. Adina Muhammad Al-'alavi: Jamshidi Tavayifi Fathi (the Subjugation of the Jamshidis)
This is an edition of a Chaghatay-language chronicle written in 1841 in Khiva. The text details a military campaign that the Khorezmian ruler Allah-Quli Khan carried in Khorasan (present-day Northern Afghanistan) and that ended with the resettlement of a local group known as the Jamshidis. It has come to us as a single manuscript, which was discovered a few years ago among the holdings of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Written by an eyewitness to the described events, the account contains many facts and details absent from other sources, both Eastern and European. Thus, the text incorporates 37 documents originating from the royal archive in Khiva, which reflect a correspondence between Allah-Quli Khan and various governors in Khorasan. This unique source sheds light on the crafting of historical texts sponsored by a Muslim dynasty on the basis of the material stored in the Khivan chancellery.

First Published in 2002. Oil is of strategic significance. The bulk of the earth's known oil reserves, more than 70 percent, is concentrated in the Persian Gulf area. And although alternative energy sources have been vigorously pursued, the United States continues, since 1970, to import from the Persian Gulf 24 percent of needed oil for her own consumption. Since this study was completed thirty years ago there have been several major events related to the control of the flow of Gulf oil. This work narrates the history of the world's power struggle over the control of oil in the Persian Gulf from the time of the signing of the earliest oil concessions in 1901 until 1971.

Beset by the forces of European colonialism, US imperialism, and neoliberalism, the people of the Antilles have had good reasons to band together politically and economically, yet not all Dominicans, Haitians, and Puerto Ricans have heeded the calls for collective action. So what has determined whether Antillean solidarity movements fail or succeed? In this comprehensive new study, Alaí Reyes-Santos argues that the crucial factor has been the extent to which Dominicans, Haitians, and Puerto Ricans imagine each other as kin. Our Caribbean Kin considers three key moments in the region’s history: the nineteenth century, when the antillanismo movement sought to throw off the yoke of colonial occupation; the 1930s, at the height of the region’s struggles with US imperialism; and the past thirty years, as neoliberal economic and social policies have encroached upon the islands. At each moment, the book demonstrates, specific tropes of brotherhood, marriage, and lineage have been mobilized to construct political kinship among Antilleans, while racist and xenophobic discourses have made it difficult for them to imagine themselves as part of one big family. Recognizing the wide array of contexts in which Antilleans learn to affirm or deny kinship, Reyes-Santos draws from a vast archive of media, including everything from canonical novels to political tracts, historical newspapers to online forums, sociological texts to local jokes. Along the way, she uncovers the conflicts, secrets, and internal hierarchies that characterize kin relations among Antilleans, but she also discovers how they have used notions of kinship to create cohesion across differences.

Safety of Breast Pumps and Expressed Breast Milk Use Amongst Nursing Mothers and Healthy Term Babies
The growing awareness of the benefits of exclusive breast feeding is reason why many nursing mothers are opting to adopt the practice. Emerging barriers, however, threaten adherence to its required duration and exclusivity. A possible strategy that could address most of the commonly reported complaints is the use of breast pumps by nursing mothers and expressed breast milk for healthy term babies. This review of scientific literature which examined its safety shows that in spite of the huge benefits and positive roles that the device could play in supporting exclusive breast feeding, significant number of users suffer discomfort, breast pain, and tissue damage. Also, its effectiveness in supporting nursing mothers to achieving the required duration and exclusivity has not been confirmed. In addition, bottle feeding puts babies at higher risks of developing Maloclusions and other forms of oral diseases while the mechanism by which bottle-fed infants tends to overfeed is unclear. Therefore, training sessions on hand expression of breast milk and personal hygiene are recommended for inclussion into ante and post natal clinics as an alternative for nursing mothers who might have serious complaints with the device. Moreover, further studies to refine the dynamics of breast pump operation so as to address complaints by nursing mothers are also advocated.
