Angela Hewitt's Bach Book for Piano

(BH Piano). Collection of 11 Bach transcriptions performed by concert pianist Angela Hewitt. Includes transcriptions by Hewitt, Walton, Howells, and newly commissioned transcriptions by Dean, Holloway, Kats-Chernin, and others. "This work could be aptly titled 'Bach Re-Imagined for Piano, ' as Bach's legacy is transcribed and transformed for today's pianists...As would be expected from a pianist of Hewitt's stature, the pieces mostly require advanced musicality and/or technique...Since the pieces are all relatively short, they would work well inserted into a solo recital program individually or as a small grouping."-- American Music Teacher "All three of Hewitt's transcriptions of Bach organ preludes are beautiful, lyrical, and wonderful additions to the literature...The variety featured in Hewitt's Bach Book for Piano will have something that appeals to everyone."-- Clavier Companion
Angela of Foligno's Memorial

Angela of Foligno's Memorial

The powerful voice of major Italian medieval woman mystic, translated with commentary. Angela of Foligno is considered by many as the greatest mystical voice among Italian medieval women. She devoted herself to a relentless pursuit of God when as a middle-aged woman she lost her mother, husband and children; illiterate herself, she dictated her experiences to her confessor, who transcribed her words into Latin as the Memorial. In a direct and vigorous style, it tells of her suffering, visions, joy, identification with Christ, and finally her mystical union with God. However, her book has always been viewed with suspicion, indeed even bordering on heresy; her spirituality goes beyond conventional language as well as beyond accepted doctrines and modes of prayer. This annotated selection from the Memorial is preceded by a biographical introduction which places Angela's text in its historical, cultural, and spiritual context; the accompanying interpretive essay which follows compares Angela's experience with that of twentieth-century Christian feminist theologians. The volume is completed with an annotated bibliography. CRISTINA MAZZONI is Professor and Chair, Department of Romance Languagesand Linguistics at the University of Vermont.

Angela Carter Translator and Translated
Angela Carter Translator and Translated situates the British writer Angela Carter within a global framework by documenting how foreign languages and cultures played a key role in her work, before gaining attention internationally today, notably in translation. A published translator who used translation as a creative method to fashion her fiction, Carter has now been translated into multiple languages. The essays and interviews contained in this volume show that, as it moves between tongues and cultural contexts, Carter’s work continues to initiate dialogues and inspire both critical and creative responses. Organised in three parts, it documents her activity as a translator and the generative role it played in her oeuvre and informed her translational poetics, as well as the circulation of her work in translation on several continents, complete with testimonies of translators and adaptors who stress its inspiring force.
Harlem Hit & Run: A Murder Mystery by Angela Dews
The Second Edition of Harlem Hit & Run starts at what was Chapter Two. It is exactly the same story that we enter at a different point. Neither Pearl nor readers will get inside the board room of the city's only black-owned commercial bank which was introduced in Chapter One of the First Edition. But they may find their footing on the threshold of the "Harlem Empowerment" we have witnessed since that time.Harlem Hit & Run is recent history wrapped in a murder mystery. It is full of the dialogue and details of how we were in the 1990s. Harlem is one of the complex characters. So is bad-ass actress native daughter Pearl Washington. She plays Police Lt. Summer Knight in her action movies and she is studying the Buddha's teaching as part of her martial arts training. Pearl chants over her friend when she is hit by a car on 125th Street: "Remember all this fleeting world is a star at dawn, a bubble in a stream, a flash of lightening in a summer cloud, a flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." Pearl's lover, a Harlem cop, hears her and asks her to lead his 28th Precinct police people in a meditation.
