A sweet story of the love between father and daughter that stays constant, even through big change. Pearl loves imagining she is a princess, with Mama and Papa in their magical castle . . . until Mama and Papa get a divorce, and Papa moves away. The story starts when Pearl spends her first day at Papa's new place and it's the opposite of magical when he has to get her ready for picture day. Everything is just too . . . different. But Pearl and Papa learn that different can be okay, and even special. Papa and Pearl explores a fresh perspective on divorce, focusing on the strength of the father-daughter relationship, not the divorce itself. Imaginative and captivating, Papa and Pearl draw young readers into their world of pirates, princesses, and mermaids, and the love between father and daughter that doesn't change even when other things do.

Winner of the Everett Lee Hunt Award 2013. Winner of the National Communication Association (NCA) Philosophy of Communication Division’s award for Best Book. An Overture to Philosophy of Communication: The Carrier of Meaning explores a world beyond information accumulation, stressing meaningful engagement with existence. Meaning is composed between and among persons, ideas, and activities of communicative engagement. Meaning is central to the study and practice of philosophy of communication, providing story-laden guidance. The book examines philosophical differences between Boss and Zorba, following the development of their friendship in Zorba the Greek. Their story helps to exemplify the meaningful coordinates of philosophy of communication established in each chapter. The authors claim meaning as the pivotal conceptual terrain for philosophy of communication. This book offers a rationale for the pragmatic necessity of philosophy of communication in understanding the «how» and the «why» of orchestrating meaning from information and discourse throughout our communicative lives.

New methods for the construction of condensed five-membered ring systems continue to be developed at an accelerated pace. The challenges underlying this tremendous current upsurge of interest arise from several directions. One stems from the desire to elucidate and resolve those special problems associated with the incorporation of added strain not present when six-membered rings are mutually fused. The many structurally interesting polyquinane natural products isolated and characterized in recent years have provided a particularly delightful forum for application of various new synthetic protocols, many of which must equally well accommodate the particular stereochemical demands of each indi vidual target. Synthetic elaboration of a marvellous array of new unnatural molecules also holds continued fascination. In the past, we have attempted to keep others abreast of developments in this rapidly burgeoning area by authoring a pair of comprehensive reviews in Topics in Current Chemistry that appeared in 1979 [1] and 1984 [2]. During this period, others have also surveyed the developments in cyclopentannulation [3] and the cyclopentanoid field in general [4]. In the last couple of years, the pace at which new synthetic facets have been reported has become more frenetic than ever before. Accordingly, a suitable updating of the exciting newer findings was deemed appropriate and the present overview, which extends approximately to mid - 1986, was written. Once again, our hope is that compilations of this type will serve to stimulate imaginative new scientific ventures that will propel the field forward to still greater maturity.
Meeting the Challenge of Chronic Illness

Meeting the Challenge of Chronic Illness

Chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, and Parkinson disease are the principal cause of all sickness and death in the United States and represent the vast majority of health care expenditures. Although we now live in a world dominated by chronic conditions, health care is still organized around a commitment to treating acute illnesses. Meeting the Challenge of Chronic Illness examines current deficiencies in chronic illness care and explores ways to improve it. Addressing the challenges of shifting from the primacy of acute illnesses to the predominance of chronic conditions, the authors identify the components necessary to reorganize and reform health care: properly prepared health care workers; involved patients and families; appropriate use of new technologies, especially information systems; an appropriate role for prevention; and the creation of funding approaches that will provide necessary incentives. This book calls on policy makers, health care providers, and educators to address one of the greatest challenges facing the health care system.

Creative Prescriptions for Women with Cancer is a creative first-aid kit that specifically addresses many of the challenges faced by cancer patients. This guide will help you to tap into your inherent ability to be creative and its potential to heal physically, emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually. Creativity is your "prescription" to reduce stress, raise spirits, and facilitate the healing process. "Annette does an incredible job of providing women who are healing from cancer a portable art studio, and journal so they can tap into the healing that happens when we are creating joyfully. This book is the framework for escaping the fear and stress of cancer through the prescription of creating authentically. How wonderful that women do not need to be good at art or have any art experience in order to add this form of play and expression to their treatment plan. This book is a great resource to promote mind-body-spirit healing and a sense of wholeness and control over the healing process. I highly recommend adding this wonderful method of self-reflection and self-discovery to anyone's healing game plan " - Debra Nicholson, Director of Community Outreach Center For Advancement in Cancer Education "I love it This book is a refreshing take on the healing process. New research shows the most influential factor on our health and healing-even more than diet, smoking, or genetics- is our emotional wellbeing. Many of us grew up without the tools to support emotional healing, or feel such progress can only be achieved through long difficult therapy sessions. I love how Annette has created an easy and fun way for people to experience emotional healing. It is a must-have in every woman's cancer-fighting arsenal " - Christine Horner M.D, Waking the Warrior Goddess: Dr. Horner's Program to Protect Against & Fight Breast Cancer "In this lovely book, Annette Tello provides a "safe space to express and honor your thoughts and feelings". In our busy, stress- filled world, this oasis of creative time may be just the healing you need." - Ellen Speert, ATR-BC, REAT The California Center for Creative Renewal Annette Tello M.S. is a counselor and coach.
