This reference is the only book-length work to analyze all of the major speeches of one of the most significant politicians of the first part of the twentieth century, Robert La Follette, Sr. His speeches offer historic snapshots into the Progressive era and of the thinking of an outstanding governor of Wisconsin, U.S. senator, and social agitator. This rhetorical biography analyzes key speeches and provides texts demonstrating how Senator La Follette used melodramatic scenarios to enlist citizens in his reform crusade against the gravest danger that he saw in this country. This reference also provides texts of his most important speeches, a chronology of his major orations, and a lengthy bibliography. This unique volume is designed for students and specialists in political communication, rhetorical criticism, and American studies. This systematical analysis of Senator La Follette's public speeches is a short and highly readable history of the Progressive era, World War I and its aftermath, and the early 1920s from the perspective of a leading political figure of the times. The analysis of La Follette's rhetorical strategy illuminates his use of confrontational tactics, such as the filibuster in Congress to educate the voter and to plead for reforms that he considered essential. This reference provides the texts of five seminal orations and the most complete bibliography of speeches available to date.

An American of humble beginnings from rural Oregon, Carl Barks became the single most prolific, most published, most read author and most viewed artist in history. This series of pictorial books explores every aspect of his work and its ongoing global impact. Today Carl's oil paintings of scenes featuring the characters he created and wrote about are eminently collectible, selling at auction for very high prices.

This book tells the story of Robert Walker Haulage. Established in 1935, Robert Walker never intended to run a haulage business; he initially bought a lorry to carry the produce from his market garden to the local markets. He then branched out into other types of transport work including carrying prisoners of war! Later, his forward thinking sons Brian and Eric saw a niche market in the transport of fork lift trucks and decided to try converting an old R.A.F. trailer into an early fork lift truck carrier. Today the company is in the hands of the third and fourth generations of the family and despite its humble beginnings, it is now the largest fork truck transporter in the UK. The book details the history of the company's success including anecdotes from people that have worked for or with the company over the years. It details how Walkers carried Donald Campbell's Bluebird around on his exhibition tour of 1965 after setting his land speed records between 1955 and 1964, and shows how ERF played a major role in the expansion of the fork truck transport business. Including 229 previously un-printed pictures of the four wheel basic lorries that Robert used in the early days, to the latest vehicles operated by this specialist haulier, this book will be of interest to truck drivers and other transport enthusiasts.
Carl Loewe - Der «Norddeutsche Schubert» in Wien

Medieval English Ancestors of Robert Abell, Who Died in Rehoboth, Plymouth Colony, 20 June 1663, 2nd edition
While this work was intended to be limited to the ancestors of Robert1 Abell (of the line in Stapenhill in Derbyshire, England) who died in Rehoboth, Plymouth Colony, on 20 June 1663, it naturally includes the lines of many other colonial Americans, for whom connections will be found in David Faris' Plantagenet Ancestry of Seventeenth-Century Colonists, Frederick Lewis Weis' Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists, and Gary Boyd Roberts' The Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants to the American Colonies and the United States. This second edition includes more than eighty percent additional text, and 219 lines, forty-four percent more than the 152 lines in the first edition. Unlike the works of Faris, Weis and Roberts, it includes every line which could be discovered going back at least to the end of the reign of King Edward I in 1307, as well as historical background, and as much information on all the children which could be found in years of research. The eleven-page bibliography of the first edition has grown to sixty-two pages, due in large part to the availability of millions of books on the internet. In addition, this volume benefits from input from numerous genealogists over the more than fifteen years following the first edition. A glossary, a bibliography, an Index of Personal Names, and an Index of Place Names add to the value of this extensive work.
