Every internal combustion engine needs supply of air. This air is required to be dirt free, dry, clean and cool. Unfiltered air can speedily wear out an engine. In a short period of time the engine can drop compression and power, and begin to emit heavy smoke. As the air filter builds a dust film, the holes in the filter medium become smaller, and the filter becomes more efficient at trapping dirt. As the filter traps dirt, it is difficult for the air to pass through the filter, and restriction increase in the air intake system. Restriction of Air through filter usually remains low, for most of the filter's life service, but increases rapidly at the end. The value of air filter restriction is the key parameter to be used considering filter replacement. The present work is focused on the engine filter technologies and their effect on its performance, emissions and fuel economy.

Jeder Verbrennungsmotor ben tigt eine Luftzufuhr. Diese Luft muss schmutzfrei, trocken, sauber und k hl sein. Ungefilterte Luft kann einen Motor schnell verschlei en. In kurzer Zeit kann der Motor an Kompression und Leistung verlieren und starken Rauch aussto en. Wenn der Luftfilter einen Staubfilm aufbaut, werden die L cher im Filtermedium kleiner, und der Filter kann den Schmutz besser einfangen. Je mehr Schmutz der Filter aufnimmt, desto schwieriger wird es f r die Luft, durch den Filter zu str men, und desto gr er wird die Drosselung im Ansaugsystem. Der Widerstand der Luft durch den Filter bleibt in der Regel w hrend des gr ten Teils der Lebensdauer des Filters gering, nimmt aber am Ende schnell zu. Der Wert des Luftfilterwiderstands ist der Schl sselparameter f r den Austausch des Filters. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit den Filtertechnologien f r Motoren und deren Auswirkungen auf Leistung, Emissionen und Kraftstoffverbrauch.
