Praise for The Complete Website Planning Guide A great, accessible and practical guide that you can quickly use to get better results from your next website build. Get to it Would you build a house without blueprints and expect it to be perfect? That's how many people go about their web projects, with napkin drawings, spoken discussions, part finished summaries and guides and wonder why it's not finished on time, costs more than it should and people aren't happy with it.You can be the architect of your next website project and avoid delays, scope creep, missing functionality and extra costs. In The Complete Website Planning Guide you can learn how to easily create blueprints (a scope) for your, or your clients, website that will solve many of the key problems that occur in website development projects. After more than 20 years running a design and development agency Darryl still couldn't find a standard way that clients and developers could outline exactly what they needed to get the job done most effectively. Most briefs or planning methods either focus on general things like platform, hosting and general design guidelines. Many agencies or freelancers still fly by the seat of their pants using their experience to guide the project. So he wrote this guidebook as an instruction manual to create useful site plans without missing out important requirements, or needing to be overly technical. In this simple step-by-step guide he walks you through the process of establishing what the website really needs to do and shows you how to do it.If you want to build your next website before you pick a theme and try to wedge your needs into it, before you tell your designer to copy someone else's site read this book and create your website plan.If you are a freelancer or agency developer don't take on a client or quote a new project without helping them plan the site properly.Learn how to create a plan so you can avoid overruns, scope creep and lost money. This is the very first step you need for your next web project, download the free templates and resources, and join the facebook group where you can get advice on working through your own plan. And now you can also buy the companion Complete Website Planning Guide Workbook to use side by side with this book. What readers said: "If you are a business owner, read it, print out the templates and have these discussions with your designers. Trust me, even if you do only a few things in this guide, your outcome will be 100% better than if you just choose your site based on the pretty colours." Ed Pelgen"I am a freelancer and this is what I was looking for. Darryl has used his experience in laying out the problems faced by clients and freelancers and also given some templates and methods to follow before starting a new project" Amrinder Singh
Public Law, Private Practice

Public Law, Private Practice

Long ignored by historians and repudiated in their time, practitioners of private law opened the way toward Japan’s legal modernity. From the seventeenth to the turn of the twentieth century, lawyers and their predecessors changed society in ways that first samurai and then the state could not. During the Edo period (1600–1868), they worked from the shadows to bend the shogun’s law to suit the market needs of merchants and the justice concerns of peasants. Over the course of the nineteenth century, legal practitioners changed law from a tool for rule into a new epistemology and laid the foundation for parliamentary politics during the Meiji era (1868–1912).This social and political history argues that legal modernity sprouted from indigenous roots and helped delineate a budding nation’s public and private spheres. Tracing the transition of law regimes from Edo to Meiji, Darryl E. Flaherty shows how the legal profession emerged as a force for change in modern Japan and highlights its lasting contributions in founding private universities, political parties, and a national association of lawyers that contributed to legal reform during the twentieth century.

Through careful attention to the contexts of Renaissance culture invoked by the language, action, and visual spectacle in Measure for Measure, Darryl Gless brings a new and original interpretation to one of Shakespeare's most problematic plays. This leads him to a comprehensive and coherent reading of the play that has important implications for further understanding of much of the Shakespearean canon and of other Renaissance works, especially those dealing with theological issues. Originally published in 1979. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. Art of Making a Harpsichord

Art of Making a Harpsichord

For around 300 years, the harpsichord was the leading domestic musical instrument and often a highly fashionable piece of furniture as well. Usurped by the piano at the beginning of the nineteenth century, it was taken up again with the first revival of early music at the beginning of the twentieth century. Over the past 40 years, makers have been getting closer to reproducing examples from the historical past. Now, The Art of Making a Harpsichord gives its readers the chance to discover this challenging and rewarding pursuit in a way that is rarely possible without working with an established builder. Beginning with an overview of the instrument, its schools and workshop traditions, the author—himself an experienced maker and researcher—explores the various models and types before leading the reader through the manufacture of an Italian-style instrument, while describing historically-based working methods which are applicable to all traditions. Just as in the seventeenth or eighteenth century, there is no need to rely on large power-tools. This book has been designed to provide assistance to all harpsichord makers, whatever model they choose to make. It is lavishly illustrated with line drawings and photographs, the latter taken—wherever possible—from antique examples that give the reader as full an understanding as possible of the quality of these beautiful instruments.

'Darryl Bullock's timely biography - delightfully cheering' Alexander McCall Smith, Guardian Madame Jenkins couldn't carry a tune in a bucket: despite that, in 1944 at the age of 76, she played Carnegie Hall to a capacity audience and had celebrity fans by the score. Her infamous 1940s recordings are still highly-prized today. In his well-researched and thoroughly entertaining biography, Darryl W. Bullock tells of Florence Foster Jenkins meteoric rise to success and the man who stood beside her, through every sharp note. Florence was ridiculed for her poor control of timing, pitch, and tone, and terrible pronunciation of foreign lyrics, but the sheer entertainment value of her caterwauling packed out theatres around the United States, with the 'singer' firmly convinced of her own talent, partly thanks to the devoted attention from her husband and manager St Clair Bayfield. Her story is one of triumph in the face of adversity, of courage, conviction and of the belief that with dedication and commitment a true artist can achieve anything. With a major Hollywood movie about her life out now (starring Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg), the genius of Florence Foster Jenkins is about to be discovered by a whole new audience. 'The first full biography of Foster Jenkins' Clemency Burton-Hill, BBC 'Listening to her pathetic bleating is something like eavesdropping on a padded cell inmate' Billboard magazine

A Dealer of Old Clothes: Philosophical Conversations With David Walker showcases the philosophical endeavors of David Walker, an abolitionist and intellectual who was situated in the midst of America's turbulent period of unrest just prior to the Civil War. In this text, Scriven treats Walker as a philosophical sage of sorts. He poses philosophical questions regarding race, resistance, and the problems of evil and solicits answers via Walker's text. The book contains five main chapters with three appendices containing the three respective self-edited versions of Walker's appeal, material that has never appeared together in one volume. This piece contributes to the growing body of African-American philosophy housed with the American philosophical tradition and is the first book-length philosophical treatment in Walker scholarship.
