Courtney is very much in love with her husband Richard. However, he tends to neglect her, turning much of his time and attention to his work in Chemistry. She turn to Basil, her husband's partner, for companionship. When Richard learns that Courtney desires her freedom he divorces her, giving her custody of their young son. After a separation of some time, Richard returns home and asks to use his old laboratory for research. He also asks Courtney to assist him in the effort, which she reluctantly does. Basil learns that Courtney is free and wants to take their relationship to another level, but is rebuffed by Courtney. Basil then goes to Richard and demands Courtney, but Courtney tells Richard to kill both her and Basil. Basil, frightened, runs away. Courtney and Richard begin arrangements for a new start to their life together.
