They are about compelling situations and events in 2020-21 that we can relate to in our own lives. Each devotion is founded on the belief that God cares and is watching over us no matter what. "Mother had just blown out the candles. All of a sudden, the lights went out. Everything was dark all over town. There had been a power failure due to the fires that were raging in the hills above...?" (From "Can You See the Light?") "It was the first day of class after weeks of lockdown at home. Everyone was wearing masks, their desks were apart, and the teacher stood a great distance away from the students. 'I'm so grateful to have you here, ' she said." (From "Thankful to Whom?") "It had been several months since Dad's job had been closed down. Mom was working long hours at the nursing home. Money was tight, tempers were short, and the kids were feeling the tensions in the house..." (From "Homeless")

Inspired by a true event in the Big Sky Country of North Central Montana in the 1970s, Mariah Is Missing tells a compelling tale about a small town and the memorable people who live, work, love, and drink there. In his debut novel, David Henry Nelson reimagines the story behind a crime which occurred in 1974 while he served as the county attorney in Pondera County, Montana. He realized years later that this case had a long-lived ripple effect on many people, which prompted him to write this book.In Maria Is Missing, Ana McGuire, a prosecuting attorney, must solve the disappearance of an attractive young school teacher who is reported missing from her Monday morning class, while navigating a male-dominated professional world of law and local politics. She tangles with a zealous sheriff and an egocentric county commissioner as she deals with complications in her past and present relationships with two men in her life, Rib Torgerson and Fat Jack Moser, and encounters a variety of colorful townspeople. This suspenseful novel offers a dramatic recreation of the past and a fascinating insider view of what it's like to investigate a murder.

Stop Don't touch the fence. Don't unlock the door. And whatever you do, don't look at anything in the library-because this house keeps itself occupied. If you like "golden age" Stephen King and Twilight Zone, or modern Lovecraftian cosmic horror, you'll be absorbed by David Erik Nelson's There Was a Crooked Man, He Flipped a Crooked House. Read it instantly for free with Kindle Unlimited.Praise for There Was a Crooked Man, He Flipped a Crooked House: "absorbing horror novella" (Recommended Story)-Rich Horton, Locus, Sept 2017 "This is a very entertaining and readable story, and what makes it even better is the sheer amount of incidental detail that Nelson includes. At the end, just when I thought it was coming off the boil a little, there is a neat little twist that pulls it back up again, as well as allowing for sequels. One for the 'Best of the Year' collections."-Paul Fraser, writing for sfmagazines.com"Downtrodden architect Glenn Washington and his none-too-bright sidekick Lennie help a crooked real estate baron flip houses in downtrodden Detroit. A house comes up that is too good to gut for parts. Too good to be true. Waaaay too good. Thing is, nothing leads where it should - go through the front door, step out the door on the back porch. Best library ever. And why are the cops nosing around? Non-Euclidian architectural petty-crime adventure, and all that implies."-Adrian Simmons, writing for Black Gate magazine.
Task Practice Sequence in Computer Based Instruction
Revision with unchanged content. Can the sequence of practice tasks affect the transfer of complex cognitive skills? Researchers have sifted through findings of instructional and cognitive science to find the most effective practice strategies by which to design practice tasks. Such strategies would enable learners to abstract principles, build schemata, and transfer their cognitive structures to improve performance of their skills in further learning or in the workplace. One such practice strategy, the random sequence of practice tasks-high contextual interference-has been applied in computer-based instruction. Although block sequence of practice-practicing parts of skill in contiguous sets-results in quicker and easier skill acquisition, random sequence of practice-mixing skill parts in practice sessions-results in superior transfer to unpracticed variants of a skill. This 'contextual interference effect' has been found quite consistently in motor skills. How can this 'transfer paradox, ' as it has been called, be most effectively applied with complex cognitive skills? Curriculum planners, instructional designers, and researchers will find design and research suggestions that might help guide their work
