The Covert Alliance of Selective Termination is a secret society dedicated to silencing the most dangerous criminals in the country. For decades, this clandestine band of shadow assassins have slain thousands of suspect drug lords, terrorists, serial killers and everyone in-between. They see themselves as a noble and necessary evil, keeping the United States safe by their theory of "natural justice." But, what if one of their best succumbs to a different kind of fight, one for his own mind? Vincent Putnam has slain his share of demons, but also battles his share within his mind. Having been diagnosed with schizophrenia, he suffers from visions and hallucinations that medication can't fix. While a recurring dream names him the "Protector of Children," Putnam still must carry out the most secretive and personal mission of his life. Testing the boundaries of his own sanity, he sets out to uncover the murderer of his beloved mentor, until he meets a young child that changes his life forever.

Investigates the role of family in Hegel's phenomenology.Honorable Mention, 2011 Biennial Book Prize presented by the Canadian Philosophical Association This original study of the role that family life plays in Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit and Philosophy of Right pays particular attention to Hegel's characterization of the family as an unconscious form of ethical life rooted essentially in affectivity. David V. Ciavatta also looks at Hegel's account of feeling in the "Anthropology" section of The Philosophy of Spirit, highlighting the inherently porous nature of the self, and this porosity is shown to be constitutive of the distinctive, unconscious form of intersubjective recognition that forms the core of family bonds. The book provides a rich understanding of the role that family has in one's psychological development with respect not only to other people, but also to the world and one's own identity. Incorporating existential, phenomenological, and psychoanalytic perspectives, Ciavatta offers insightful investigations of many basic Hegelian themes, such as spirit, perception, ethical agency, language, and property ownership.

The family history unfolds before them in a way that is incredible to believe that it is real. Their quest to unlock yesterday's histories and tomorrow's mysteries parallel the present adventures that they continue to stumble upon after meeting "Ce", a psychic character, who uses "Magic" to balance the chaos of past and present. David and Janet are forced to seek the truth about David's dead father and find it difficult to piece together because there were many parts unknown to David. One Bone Rattle contains paranormal moments that are entwined with the current events and collide with the past through the discovery of the childhood of David's father. This book is one of three adventures for the Madison's.

Pandemics, substance abuse, natural disasters, obesity, and warfare: the line that once separated health crisis from social crisis no longer exists. Yet while social theories are implied in today’s public health arena, they are rarely acknowledged. Now an international panel of leaders in world health explores this vital but understudied aspect of health promotion. Health and Modernity proceeds from the thesis that contemporary health promotion is, by definition, inextricably linked to its social context. The authors discuss global challenges in terms of cultural capital, risk and causality, systems theory, and the dynamic between individual and community. In the process, they define an entity that:- Understands the centrality of health to all areas of human life- Is committed to equity in access to health-promoting resources- Applies a multidisciplinary approach to public concerns- Looks beyond quick fixes and simple answers to complex issues - Employs a variety of political and social agents to accomplish health objectives- Is dedicated to empowerment, facilitation, and inclusiveness The insights found in Health and Modernity are certain to raise the level of debate among professionals, researchers, and the academic community in the global/public health and health promotion fields. This visionary volume guides readers from the immediacy of doing toward the deeper meaning that makes such doing possible.
