Doug Waterhouse was the biocontrol guru in the Pacific, certainly during my 10 years there from 1985-1996. His vision of using biocontrol to reduce the use of agricultural chemicals must be applauded. The Pacific Islands are susceptible to dumping of pesticides and the surrounding marine ecology of the islands would be destroyed forever if they are poisoned with agricultural chemicals. This tribute to Dr Doug Waterhouse, Dr Paul Ferrar and others who helped me during my years in the Pacific as a Scientist and who helped the Pacific Islands in the area of Plant Protection. Our Pacific Ocean and its 22 Island States and Territories is a pristine, clean and natural place. We have a generational responsibility to keep it clean and pass it on to the future.One man's great vision, which I proudly shared, was to use biological control methods in the plant protection industry to avoid overuse of agricultural chemicals.In some islands, nitrates can be found in the underground water lens due to overuse of agriculture fertilizer. We should make a note of that and change our fertilizer regimes to avoid any build up of more toxins in our food and water supplies.

With numerous special printing features, this luxurious accordion-fold volume documents and embodies Aitken's exploration of mirrored surfaces in architectureA site-specific installation successively exhibited in the California desert outside Palm Springs, a defunct Detroit bank and the Alpine landscape of Gstaad, LA/New York-based artist Doug Aitken's (born 1968) Mirage is inspired by the ranch-style suburban American house and is entirely composed of reflective mirrored surfaces. A visual echo-chamber, its mirrored surfaces form a life-size kaleidoscope that absorbs and reflects the landscape. Dedicated to the three iterations of the Mirage, this publication offers the reader an experiential book that shares some of the characteristics of the installation: the immersive emotion, the disrupted perception, the merging of the viewer and the landscape. The book gathers previously unpublished photo-documentation on the installations, plus drawings and more. Featuring cold foils, special inks, silver printing and bound accordion-style to reflect the mirror-like quality of Mirage, this limited edition, copublished with Zolo Press, is certain to soon become a collectible item.
Chemical Alterations presents a photographic series by Doug Fogelson (b. 1970) that reflects the range of impacts caused by climate change around the planet. Using a process that combines traditional landscape photography with a chemical bath of toxic cleaning products to alter the original analogue film, Fogelson illustrates what are often invisible changes to the environment. Such changes culminate as disastrous events like fire, flood, drought, increasingly powerful storms, and overall global warming. Images of natural spaces that include mountains, deserts, volcanoes, jungles, oceans, rivers, and forests become represented in a state of flux. Through the processing of the film, traces such as bubbles, crystals, fingerprints, and dust are integrated into the images, probing the borderline of abstraction. The Chemical Alterations series has been in-progress over a decade and exhibited through various iterations internationally at both galleries and museums including: The Royal Geographic Society, United Kingdom, Museum Belvedere, Netherlands, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Alpenium Produzentengalerie, Luzern, SFO Museum, San Francisco, The University of Michigan Museum of Art, Ann Arbor, Sasha Wolf Projects, NYC, Klompching Gallery, NYC, The Arts Club of Chicago and others.
