Erwin Piscators 'Rauber'-Inszenierung von 1926 hat fur die Theatergeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts paradigmatische Bedeutung. Grund dafur sind Piscators kuhne Vergegenwartigungsstrategien auf thematisch-inhaltlicher und auf theaterasthetischer Ebene, durch die die Auffuhrung zu einem kontrovers diskutierten Ereignis geriet. Zentrum der durch Piscators 'Rauber' entfachten Diskussion war die Frage, wie 'werktreu' man die Klassiker im Allgemeinen und Schillers Dramen im Besonderen auf die Buhne bringen konne und solle - eine Debatte, die bis heute anhalt. Das Regiebuch zu Piscators massstabsetzenden 'Raubern', das bislang nur selten in den Blick der literatur- und theaterwissenschaftlichen Forschung geruckt ist, liegt im Archiv der Akademie der Kunste in Berlin. Es wird hier erstmals publiziert - gemeinsam mit ausgewahlten Theaterkritiken, Szenenfotos und Buhnenbildentwurfen zur Inszenierung sowie mit einem ausfuhrlichen Nachwort.

Photographer of excellence, and among the most appreciated in the contemporary art scene, the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf (1959) is to be considered one of the greatest interpreters of modern portrait photography: he is known all over the world for a photographic style dominated by mysterious and contemplative atmospheres, for his mise en scène and theatrical compositions. In his shots Olaf weaves complex and dramatic narratives. His works are striking in their strangeness, their will to provoke, their sense of solitude and restlessness: they catch glimpses of truth, which reveal the imperfection and the fictitious nature of an apparently perfect world. This rich catalogue represents a journey through the artist's entire production, offering a complete overview of his work: from the beginning with Chessmen, the series that made him internationally famous, awarded at the Young European Photographer competition in 1988, up to the recent Palm Springs project (2018). Erwin Wortelkamp is internationally recognised primarily as a sculptor and founder of the landscape and sculpture park “Im Tal”. On the other hand, his graphic oeuvre of more than 4,000 sheets, which he created over the course of more than six decades, has received less attention to date. It ranges from sketches for projects and actions to architectural designs and independent free works. Colour has become prominent in these works since 1986 at the latest, coinciding with his second home in Italy. In serial cycles, Wortelkamp examines formal and thematic issues, occasionally linking art historical references with existential aspects. Here, artistic processes develop in a continuous dialogue. For Erwin Wortelkamp, dialogues and “interpenetrations” thus refer not only to visible, formal acts of creating, but also to physical and spiritual dimensions. Every form, every colour, every dialogic principle – be it in sculpture, on paper, or in written text – becomes an existential question for him. The aim of the current presentation is to explore this extensive body of work in depth for the first time and to investigate the question of interpenetration. Text in English and German.

Rommels duglighet som officer under första världskriget led­de till att han tilldelades en befattning i Weimarrepublikens reducerade försvarsstyrkor, det så kallade riksvärnet (Reichswehr). Under den­na period skötte han sina arbetsuppgifter utan anmärk­ning men utmärkte sig inte särskilt mycket och skulle antagligen ha slutat sin karriär som divisionschef, eller i bästa fall kårchef, om det inte hade varit för hans nära kontakter med Adolf Hitler. Tack var dessa utnämndes han till chef för en av de tio pansardivisioner som bidrog till tyskarnas snabba seger under fälttåget i väster våren 1940. Det var ett enastående tillfälle för Rommel att utmärka sig som förbandschef och banade väg för hans utnämning till chef för tyska Afrikakåren året därpå, en befattning som skulle göra hans namn känt över hela världen, som Ökenräven. Översättningen har gjorts av en av Sveriges kunnigaste militärhistoriska översättare, Mikael Dahlgren. Serien Andra världskrigets generaler består av 10 titlar och beskriver tyska och allierade generaler som i hög grad påverkade andra världskrigets förlopp. Respektive titel beskriver alla de viktigaste fälttågen och slagen där generalen i fråga spelade en viktig roll, och ger dessutom insikt om personen bakom titeln och vad som hände efter kriget.

Publication accompanying the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam exhibition of the same name, running from 10 October 2025 to February 2026. It was a shock when Erwin Olaf passed away unexpectedly in 2023 while recovering from a lung transplant. In the 1980s and 1990s, he gained fame for his extravagant, sometimes sexually explicit photographs. Inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe, Hans van Manen, and Paul Blanca, he found his muses in Amsterdam's Club RoXY. Over time, he evolved from a rebellious avant-gardist into a celebrated artist, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to his exhibitions, from The Hague to Shanghai. Throughout his career, he remained true to himself, creating his own universe while tirelessly advocating for the rights of the queer community.
