And Ginger and Steve find that the Feds are about to seize all their assets.There is one way yuppies Ginger and Steve can hold onto their wonderful lifestyle in Houston, but the solution is in Switzerland and may land Ginger in jail. Ginger flees her accounting job, her home, her husband, and even her dog to try to hold onto the freedom and lifestyle she has always wanted. She heads for refuge with her old college friends in Knoxville, who still live the Bohemian life of poor but carefree students. This is where Ginger was happiest. Should she simply stay here and abandon her yuppie life back in Houston?After re-living her college days with a self-appointed dean of students in Knoxville, Ginger hits the road again, ending up first in Zurich, then Berlin. She struggles to hold onto what she sees as her future while trying to figure out how it all went so wrong. Alone in a rapidly changing Europe, Ginger runs into unexpected enemies and unexpected kindness from strangers along the way. As she retreats once more to Moscow, she faces choices between living a simpler but rich life...or more stressful years trying to achieve the American Dream set down by the previous generation.
