The two novellas by Wilhelm Jensen (1837-1911), "The Red Umbrella" ("Der rote Schirm") and "In the Gothic House" ("Im gotischen Hause") were originally published by Verlag Emil Felber, Berlin in 1892 under the title BERM CHTE SUPERIOR POWERS]. They have not been reprinted since, nor have they to the best of my knowledge ever been translated into English. They play a role in the history of psycho-analysis, because Sigmund Freud refers to them in a letter to Wilhelm Jensen on December 16, 1907 concerning the latter's novella GRADIVA, which Freud had analysed at length: ". . . a knowledgeable friend has drawn my attention to two other novellas of yours, which you have combined under one title as " berm chte" "Superior Powers"]. Of these the first - Der rote Schirm - The Red Umbrella] shows remarkably many traits which also belong to the Gradiva; the other - Im gotischen Hause - In the Gothic House] appears to be related to the Gradiva via mediation of the first." Die beiden folgenden Novellen von Wilhelm Jensen (1837-1911), "Der rote Schirm" und "Im goti-schen Hause", erschienen 1892 im Verlag von Emil Felber, Berlin unter einem Titel Uebermaechte. Sie wurden seither nicht nachgedruckt. Aus diesem Grund habe ich sie mit milder Anpassung an die moderne Rechtschreibung (hauptsaechlich bei "th" und "ss") abgeschrieben, ohne den Text sonst zu aendern/modernisieren. Die zitierten Gedichte (sowohl von Hoelderlin als auch von Jensen) habe ich im Original gelassen. Diese beiden Werke Jensens spielen eine gewisse Rolle in der Geschichte der Psychoanalyse, weil Sigmund Freud in einem Brief vom 16. Dezember 1907 Wilhelm Jensen darauf ansprach: ". . . dass mich ein kundiger Freund auf zwei andere Ihrer Novellen aufmerksam gemacht hat, die Sie unter einem Titel "Uebermaechte" vereinigt haben. The sudden Jews were between a rock and a hard place. The synagogues did not know them, and the official church did not want them. In this perilous time, a fraction of the church split with the official church and set up an agency to try to help - the Bureau Gr ber, named after the courageous and resourceful pastor who founded it. In 1961, Pastor Gr ber was the only German called as a witness in the Eichmann trial in Jerusalem. He testified: One evening I arrived very worn out in the Kurf rstenstrasse, and there I had the impression that the accused Eichmann] had had, if I may say so, a good day. Perhaps he even took pity on me. I don't know if the accused remembers this incident. He said, 'Why are you bothering with these Jews, anyway? No one will thank you for this work. Why all this big fuss for the Jews' I answered him, 'Do you know the road that leads from Jerusalem to Jericho' And then I said, 'Once there was a Jew lying on this road, who was the victim of robbers. And then someone came along who was not a Jew and he helped him. The Lord whom alone I obey says to me, "Go thou and do likewise." That is my answer.' Unaufgeregt nimmt der Autor seine Leser zwischen spannenden Ermittlungen, zu denen Ralf Kempel von Polizei und BKA immer wieder angefordert wird, mit in den Reitstall, der nach mehreren Verbrechen im ersten Krimi vom Nobelstall zum Sorgenkind mutiert. Neben den Pferden sind die zentralen Themen der Krimis fehlende Empathie bei den T tern, die risikoreiche T tigkeit der Polizisten, die oft berfordert ohne entsprechende Unterst tzung der Staatsanwaltschaft verheizt werden, Korruption in Politik und Wirtschaft, sowie der Umgang mit Behinderten im Berufsalltag. Alle Krimis bauen aufeinander auf.

Marcus und Cloe m ssen sich schlie lich den Problemen stellen, die seit ber drei Jahren auf Erledigung warten, aber nat rlich nicht einfach verschwunden sind.Nicht immer erledigen sich Probleme und Schwierigkeiten durch Aussitzen Nach den Ereignissen im Chattengebirge hatten sich Marcus und Cloe auf den Weg nach Confluentes begeben. Als sie nun in der Villa Volerus auf Marcus Familie treffen, stellen sie fest, dass das Netz, das ihre Gegner gesponnen haben, wesentlich enger ist, als sie sich vorstellen konnten. Zusammen mit Cloe gelingt es Marcus einige Verflechtungen aufzudecken und Bedrohungen zu eliminieren. Doch der Erfolg hat auch seine Schattenseiten. Marcus kommt nur knapp mit dem Leben davon, als er f r aus Notwehr einen Centurio den Primus Plus der XXII. Legion t tet und sich wegen dieser Tat zur Verantwortung gezogen wird. Das Leben mit Cloe, das sich Marcus einfacher vorgestellt hatte, wird einigen harten Pr fungen unterzogen und Wege, die die beiden eingeschlagen haben, erweisen sich in einigen F llen als Sackgassen. Weil die Dinge oft nicht so sind, wie sie auf den ersten Blick zu sein scheinen, ist der Weg f r die Beiden von etlichen H hen, Tiefen und auch Wendungen gekennzeichnet.

Germania Superior im Jahre 946 a.u.c (193 n. Chr.) Caesar Commodus wurde zum Jahresende 945 durch eine seiner Huren ermordet und verschiedene Gruppen und Personen beginnen damit, sich um die Herrschaft des Imperiums zu Streiten.Marcus und seine Familie werden in den Konflikt hineingezogen und finden sich auf der Seite von Septimius Severus wieder, der Marcus die M glichkeit bietet, das zu tun, was er am besten kann. Als Krieger in den Kampf zu ziehen und vor allem: M nner im Kampf zu f hren.W hrend im Maius 946 Augusta Treverorum durch Clodius Albinus, dem Statthalter Britanniens, belagert wird, begeben sich Marcus, Cloe und Judith mit den M nnern von Marcus Centurie ber den Balkan auf den Weg nach Asia Minor, um dort Aufgaben zu erf llen, die Severus von ihnen erwartet. Wieder muss Marcus feststellen, dass Vertrauen eine gef hrliche Sache. Bei K mpfen ist es einfacher, wenn man auf bekannte und vertraute Gegner trifft, aber was ist, wenn der Gegner von einer Seite kommt, von der man ihn nicht erwartet hat?Wem kann man noch vertrauen?Seine oft einfache und naive Sicht der Dinge ist nicht immer hilfreich, besonders wenn es sich bei dem Gegner um einen Geheimbund handelt, dessen Mitglieder sich in den h chsten Ebenen im Imperium bewegen und die ber gro e Macht und Einfluss verf gen.

Die Kriegerinnen IITrau lieber deiner Kraft als deinem Gl ck Germania Superior in den Iden des Aprilis 969 a.u.c / oder das Jahr 216 nach einer damals nicht existierenden Zeitrechnung. Severus Antoninus, oder Caracalla, wie er genannt wird, ist tot. Seine Nachfolger wechseln in den n chsten Jahren in schneller Folge bis in 975 sein junger Neffe Severus Alexander Caesar und Imperator wird. Doch bis dahin sorgt noch eine Reihe von Begebenheiten daf r, dass es den Kriegerinnen, also den T chtern von Marcus Volerus Gallius und dessen beiden Frauen nicht langweilig wird. Drusilia Cloephelia hat Quintus tats chlich geheiratet. Bereits nach dem Bekanntgeben der Zustimmung begeben sich die hochschwangere Frau und ihre Begleiter auf den Weg in L nder, die Silia bislang noch nicht einmal auf den Karten des Imperiums zeigen konnte und nat rlich findet sie bei ihrer Ankunft alles etwas anders als geplant und versprochen vor. Gemachte Versprechungen haben leider, wie Schnee im Fr hjahr, oftmals nur einen zeitlich begrenzten Bestand. Drusilia muss erfahren, dass es Erfahrungen gibt, die keine Mutter machen sollte und sie macht Erfahrungen, die noch niemand aus der Familie Volerus zuvor gemacht hat.Das alles und noch viel mehr ....
