Helene Tursten's explosive new series features Detective Inspector Embla Nystr m, a sharp, unforgiving woman working in a man's world. When one of her peers is murdered during a routine hunting trip, Embla must track down the killer while confronting a dark incident from her past. Twenty-eight-year-old Embla Nystr m has been plagued by chronic nightmares and racing thoughts ever since she can remember. She has learned to channel most of her anxious energy into her position as Detective Inspector in the mobile unit in Gothenburg, Sweden, and into sports. A talented hunter and prizewinning Nordic welterweight, she is glad to be taking a vacation from her high-stress job to attend the annual moose hunt with her family and friends. But when Embla arrives at her uncle's cabin in rural Dalsland, she sees an unfamiliar face has joined the group: Peter, enigmatic, attractive, and newly divorced. And she isn't the only one to notice. One longtime member of the hunt doesn't welcome the presence of an outsider and is quick to point out that with Peter, the group's number reaches thirteen, a bad omen for the week. Sure enough, a string of unsettling incidents follow, culminating in the disappearance of two hunters. Embla takes charge of the search, and they soon find one of the missing men floating facedown in the nearby lake. With the help of local reinforcements, Embla delves into the dark pasts of her fellow hunters in search of a killer.

A persons soul contains two parts the sliver you are born with, and the kai an entity that joins with the body eight days after birth. At least, that was how it used to be, until the sinister truth of the kai was discovered. In the Ennian empire, dedicated hunters are trained to catch the kai before it manages to contaminate its host. Caeles was bred to become a Venethori an elite kai hunter tasked with keeping people safe from dangerous kai, draconids, and other creatures. To aid him, he has his crossbow and his kai bound to him from birth but blocked from entering his body. As a loyal servant of the empire he never questioned the imperial way of life, until the day he ends up in a situation where he is forced to ask himself; is everything really as simple as it seems?
The Haunting of Lilford Hall

The Haunting of Lilford Hall

The Haunting of Lilford Hall is one of the most baffling cases ever recorded of paranormal activity experienced simultaneously by multiple people. Between 2012 and 2013, a team of 13 people came together to produce a historical TV documentary, not a paranormal investigation, and yet that is what they became unexpectedly involved in. The TV documentary was about the life of Robert Browne, the man who was behind The Pilgrim Fathers sailing on The Mayflower to settle the first civilian colony on the American continent. In fact, without Robert Browne, there may never have been the United States of America, at least not as we know it today. -Robert Browne was the man who separated church from state in the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1st which is the underpinning of the United States. -Robert Browne's words are written into the constitution of the United States. -Robert Browne's direct descendent officially fired the first shot in the American war of independence. -Robert Browne's beloved Lilford Hall estate was the home of President George Washington's Mother. -Robert Browne's beloved Lilford Hall estate was the home of President Quincy Adams' family. Just like in a typical horror movie plot, the TV crew of 13 unsuspecting people were thrust into the middle of baffling and extensive paranormal activity. They experienced doors that refused to stay closed, they had debris thrown at them, they had a door silently ripped away from the hinges and doorframe while they were in the next room. There were even several recorded multi-witness apparitions of a man fitting Robert Browne's description. It is believed by many that the ghost of Robert Browne, the "Grandfather" of the United States as a nation, still haunts Lilford Hall to this day.

Comments on the 2011 printed version of Hauntings & Healings: - "This book is totally un-putdownable - a wonderful read." J.L. Somerset, UK "I love your book, very informative and friendly, which is probably why I felt drawn to it. I am very interested in this subject but have avoided buying direct literature on it up to now. Just wanted to read the right thing first, it's a minefield out there." E.C. Bristol, UK "I loved the book and its kind of come at the right time as Ive been really getting into meditation and healing with a little group of friends over the last 6 months. Its answered a lot of the questions I had recently. I did spend ages online trying to find ways to close down meditation sessions and didn't really find anything but the info in the book is really good. I like the book as it was so honest. Lots of books like that are almost bragging about the experiences or gifts people have but yours is very refreshing." M.M. Newcastle-on-Tyne, UK "Helen Bevan's book draws on her interpretation of experiences over many decades. As a retired librarian of many years standing she writes well and it is easy to read. She benefits from a working partnership with her husband Keith who is also a healer and medium and I recommend it to anyone who finds the subject of interest." This 5 star review is from Amazon.co.uk by Snowflake 12 Feb 2012 "I wanted to write and let you know Helen how much I enjoyed your writings. Well written and very interesting to read. I especially related to the happenings from Central Library to around Beric's birth time because I remembered you telling me about it as it happened... What an interesting life you have had." H.C. Bristol, UK Helen Bevan has aimed her book at those who are interested in learning more of this through her wisdom and experience - not trying to convince hard-line sceptics but seeking to open minds, plant seeds and nurture them as they grow, helping people along their various spiritual paths."

The Empress Helena made the historic pilgrimage to Palestine, found pieces of wood from the true Cross, and built churches at Bethlehem and Olivet. Her life coincided with one of the great turning-points of history: the recognition of Christianity as the religion of the Roman Empire. The enormous conflicting forces of the age, and the corruption, treachery, and madness of Imperial Rome combine to give Evelyn Waugh the theme for one of his most arresting and memorable novels.

Evelyn Waugh's personal favorite of his novels and "a superlatively well done book" (Chicago Tribune) set in the age of Emperor Constantine. Helena is the intelligent, horse-mad daughter of a British chieftain who is thrown into marriage with the man who will one day become the Roman emperor Constantius. Leaving home for lands unknown, she spends her adulthood seeking truth in the religions, mythologies, and philosophies of the declining ancient world, and becomes initiated into Christianity just as it is recognized as the religion of the Roman Empire. Helena--a novel that Evelyn Waugh considered to be his favorite, and most ambitious, work--deftly traverses the forces of corruption, treachery, enlightenment, and political intrigue of Imperial Rome as it brings to life an inspiring heroine.
