Rising from the surrounding deserts stands the only beacon around, a city born of wealth, entombed within a coat of cinnabar, standing to entrap those too powerless to resist its event horizon. Left in the slums of Grentin to be consumed by his self-loathing Carlos sits inert in a meaningless loop of mundane work and alcoholism, of which he separates only out of respect of his co-worker and sole friend Reginald. Living a non-life warped by injustice he can only wander aimlessly, watching as the few tethers that hold him to this place rot and unravel in an uncaring world. Yield Point Met builds in anticipation as the fuse that is Carlos' emotions burns ever closer to his volatile core when the scars of his past return to brand themselves into his remaining psyche it inadvertently reignite the embers of revenge.

My Father's Chair explores the intricacies of caregiving for loved ones through a Christian lens. It delves into the emotional, logistical, and spiritual challenges caregivers face while emphasizing the importance of forgiveness, community, and faith in navigating this demanding journey. The first chapter details the author's reflections on the emotional struggles of coming to terms with his father's need for care while grappling with feelings of guilt and the need for forgiveness. He shares personal stories illustrating how his past mistakes shaped his caregiving journey, leading him to a deeper understanding of grace and redemption. The second chapter addresses the often-overlooked aspect of caregiver burnout, outlining the author's struggles and the overwhelming nature of caregiving. He offers practical strategies for maintaining emotional and physical well-being while ensuring a present and effective caregiving role. This chapter identifies signs and symptoms of burnout along with tips to overcome them. The third chapter focuses on the often-daunting legal aspects of caregiving, including paperwork, communication with legal professionals, and the emotional toll of receiving official correspondence about a deceased loved one. The author shares insights on how to approach these challenges with grace and clarity.Chapter four focuses on the identity crisis caregivers often face once their caregiving responsibilities end. It explores how to rediscover oneself and establish a new normal after caregiving. The author discusses the importance of discovering new passions, re-engaging with old ones, and building relationships through shared experiences. The fifth chapter tackles finding appropriate care for loved ones and navigating the healthcare system. It offers pragmatic advice on effective communication with healthcare professionals and ensuring that loved ones receive the necessary care. By understanding insurance policies and exploring various care options, including assisted living, and nursing homes, the author equips caregivers to make this journey more manageable. Chapter six discusses how the demands of caregiving can lead individuals to seek comfort in unhealthy outlets. This chapter addresses the pitfalls caregivers may encounter and encourages the pursuit of true peace through faith and healthy actions. By identifying common unhealthy coping mechanisms, the author advocates for seeking solace in God rather than worldly distractions, promoting positive coping strategies to remain present for those being cared for. Chapter seven emphasizes the importance of God's grace through daily spiritual practices as a source of strength and solace for caregivers. The author encourages caregivers to establish a daily prayer and Bible reading routine, highlighting the power of Scripture and community in caregiving. A crucial distinction is made regarding the importance of not over-spiritualizing the struggles faced by loved ones. The closing chapter recounts the author's premonitions about his father's passing and reflects on his father's legacy. It serves as a poignant reminder of the love shared and encourages caregivers to remember God has a purpose for every challenge. The author shares profound lessons learned from his father, detailing his father's journey from high school football star to two-time Super Bowl champion, and recounts a trip to a place where he spent summers with his father, which helped him find closure.

Classical Relaxation Phenomenology

This book serves as a self-contained reference source for engineers, materials scientists, and physicists with an interest in relaxation phenomena. It is made accessible to students and those new to the field by the inclusion of both elementary and advanced math techniques, as well as chapter opening summaries that cover relevant background information and enhance the book's pedagogical value. These summaries cover a wide gamut from elementary to advanced topics. The book is divided into three parts. The opening part, on mathematics, presents the core techniques and approaches. Parts II and III then apply the mathematics to electrical relaxation and structural relaxation, respectively. Part II discusses relaxation of polarization at both constant electric field (dielectric relaxation) and constant displacement (conductivity relaxation), topics that are not often discussed together. Part III primarily discusses enthalpy relaxation of amorphous materials within and below the glass transition temperature range. It takes a practical approach inspired by applied mathematics in which detailed rigorous proofs are eschewed in favor of describing practical tools that are useful to scientists and engineers. Derivations are however given when these provide physical insight and/or connections to other material.A self-contained reference on relaxation phenomenaDetails both the mathematical basis and applicationsFor engineers, materials scientists, and physicists
Protein Structural Domain Boundary Prediction

Protein Structural Domain Boundary Prediction

Ian M MacDonald

Revision with unchanged content. The prediction of protein structural domains and their boundaries from amino acid sequence data is an open problem of interest to the bio-informatics community. Determining a protein's structural domains experi-mentally can be very difficult. The assignment of structural domains relies on the time-consuming process of determining the three-dimensional structure. There is a strong potential for computational methods to aid in this and other tasks in structural molecular biology. Efforts from other researchers, along with the results presented here indicate that boundaries can indeed be predicted from amino acid sequence alone. A new machine-learning based architecture is introduced to predict structural domain boundaries, the key feature of which is a Mixture of Experts (MoE) model. The MoE provides the ability to combine the predictions of individual classifiers, such as artificial neural networks, support vector machines, and na ve Bayes classifiers, so as to optimize prediction accuracy. This book is addressed to students and researchers in both computer science and bioinformatics.

The vast expansion of international trade has greatly increased the incidence of cross-border ownership of assets, both tangible and intangible. It is not uncommon, for instance, for a business to own both physical plant and intellectual property in two or more jurisdictions. Under these circumstances, it is vital for business persons and their counsel to have some knowledge of a variety of relevant domestic legal regimes, particularly in regard to available remedies. This text provides the essential details of such knowledge for 14 important commercial jurisdictions: Argentina, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, England and Wales (United Kingdom), and the US. Each country survey is presented by an experienced business law practitioner in his or her particular jurisdiction. Each chapter's coverage includes discussion of remedies under such security interests as: real estate; fixtures; movables; patents; trademarks; and industrial models and designs. Each author also explains important procedural aspects of many typical phases of ownership, including registration, transfer, sale of an ongoing concern or stock in trade, taxation, trusteeship, and injunction orders. Remedies under private international law are also considered.

Britain's abandonment of the Gold Standard in 1931 raised new economic policy problems both for Britain and for the countries of the Empire, who had to decide whether to follow sterling off gold and, if so, whether to peg their currencies to sterling. By exploiting archival material, the author casts fresh light on the debates and financial diplomacy of the period, and provides a fuller understanding of several key issues: the formation of the sterling area, the World Economic Conference of 1933, and American concerns about the price and course of sterling.
