This is a personal portrait of the Scottish poet and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay, his life and work, by Christopher McIntosh, his friend of nearly three decades, who took part in many of his battles and campaigns. McIntosh recounts Finlay's emergence as an avant-garde writer and poet in the 1950s, the creation, together with his wife Sue, of his famous garden at his home Stonypath-Little Sparta in Lanarkshire, his espousal of the ideals of the French Revolution, his defence of classical values, his idiosyncratic form of paganism (Little Sparta was dedicated to Apollo), his struggle against what he called the "secular terror", his many battles (with the local taxation authorities, with the French cultural establishment, with publishers and with authors who misunderstood his work. In many ways he was a paradoxical figure on the cultural scene - a contemporary artist who opposed modern culture and fiercely upheld tradition, in other words a kind of radical traditionalist. Having been seen by many as an enfant terrible, he was in his later years f ted by the establishment, given honorary doctorates and an honorary professorship, awarded a CBE and hailed as Scotland's greatest artist. Today he has a world-wide reputation, and in 2004 a panel of artists and arts professionals voted the garden at Stonypath-Little Sparta the most important work of Scottish art. This lively personal tribute is a must for Finlay scholars and admirers.

This is where it gets a little tricky. Some highly crossed pigs will resemble a specific breed. It is in your best interest to see both parents before purchasing a pig for breeding. If you are only interested in Barbequing a pig, it probably doesn't matter, but you most likely will get inferior meat quality. I must emphasize that this book is a fun way to look at pigs. To some people pork is pork. To others, specific breeds have a unique flavor. I have personally had the opportunity to enjoy many of the breeds including feral hogs. Some people raise Pot Belly pigs for consumption, (They are very fat and have a lot of waste) but our Pot Bellies are for pets.If you want a pig around the farm, do yourself a favor and research the different swine breeds before going out to buy one or more Check out the facilities for cleanliness. Be sure to see both parents and siblings if possible.Remember, multiple crosses throw off multiple colors even though white is a dominant gene; piglets can range in color in multi-crossed pigs. Brood is a long poem from Irish author and journalist Ian Kilroy. Written in the early 1990s, it depicts the generation that grew up in Ireland after the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to Ireland in 1979. With support from the Irish Film Board, RT and the Arts Council, Brood was made into a full-length film and broadcast on national television in 1997. It is the only Irish long poem to have been filmed. Sections of the poem have previously been published in journals, but this is the first time the entire work is published and available.
