This book is devoted to a thorough investigation of the physics and applications of the vacuum arc – a highly-ionized metallic plasma source used in a number of applications – with emphasis on cathode spot phenomena and plasma formation. The goal is to understand the origins and behavior of the various complex and sometimes mysterious phenomena involved in arc formation, such as cathode spots, electrode vaporization, and near-electrode plasma formation. The book takes the reader from a model of dense cathode plasma based on charge-exchange ion-atom collisions through a kinetic approach to cathode vaporization and on to metal thermophysical properties of cathodes. This picture is further enhanced by an in-depth study of cathode jets and plasma acceleration, the effects of magnetic fields on cathode spot behavior, and electrical characteristics of arcs and cathode spot dynamics. A Photovoltaic power system is a system that uses light energy from the sun by converting it into electricity which might or might not be connected to the national grid. Solar radiation was collected by a Pyranometer installed at house rooftop in Otjomuise, Windhoek. The data was used to determine the size of photovoltaic generator required to produce electricity to meet the user demand. This project describes the steps followed while designing a PV system that will produce electricity for the University of Namibia (main campus) at a later stage. A 25.2 kWp grid connected PV system was designed and installed on Y-block rooftop, to meet the university daily energy demand and its annual energy output for the first year was estimated to be about 57.67 MWh.

Isak Saba (1875-1921) var lærer, politiker og folkeminnegransker født i Nesseby, Finnmark. Han var den første samiske stortingsrepresentanten og arbeidet hele livet for samenes sak. Saba gjorde en viktig innsats for å bevare og fremme samisk - særlig skoltesamisk - kultur. Han samlet inn sagn og eventyr i Varanger-området, og i denne boken blir de presentert for første gang for et allment publikum slik han selv skrev dem ned på sine samlerturer.
