What is a Person in the Age of AI

What is a Person in the Age of AI

The rise of artificial intelligence is a game changer for how we relate to technology. AI raises practical and ethical questions about our future-questions that are currently generating a great deal of anxiety and hope. But AI also raises deeper metaphysical questions about selfhood and humanity. What does it mean to be a person? What gives human life value? Are human beings truly unique? If so, how? Though these questions are increasingly unavoidable, most people are underprepared to answer them. What is a Person in the age of AI?. This is a topic that must be addressed head on. The implications are far-reaching and increasingly relevant. As we consider the reality of personhood, we come face-to-face with the most fundamental questions of life: who we are, and where we find meaning. Author, apologist, and respected theologian Gavin Ortlund offers a foreword that frames What is a Person in the Age of AI? as a timely and theologically grounded guide to human identity in a technological era. Internationally known pastor, author, and speaker on identity Sam Allberry provides an afterword that anchors What is a Person in the Age of AI? in Scripture and highlights its cultural and spiritual relevance.

THE GREATEST TRICK THE DEVIL EVER PULLED IS CONVINCING THE WORLD HE DIDN'T EXIST. Memories of terror and tragedy now lurk deep beneath the waters of Lake Manitou. Four generations after Lily Weber woke an ancient evil, her great-grandson Levi prepares to do battle with the Wintermaker, a shadowy figure from the era of legends and lore. With the return of Halley's Comet in early 1986, the magic buried within Hiawatha County strengthens as the forces of light and darkness battle for control of humanity's future. Thrust into the center of this epic war, sophomore Levi MacPherson had rock and roll dreams until he found himself as the bright light in the darkness of the supernatural world. To protect his loved ones (and humanity, if the tales are true), Levi must decide who to trust: his dying Gigi Lily, who claims it's his duty to confront the Wintermaker; the Isanti Lodge, a strange collection of community members pledged to protect him from a nameless evil; or his little brother Joey, whose recent friendship with a wounded raven has turned him into a conduit for the ghosts that haunt Lake Manitou. With the ability to fulfill or destroy prophecy, Levi chooses a third option: he will play the part of the trickster.

It provides new research results on signal processing techniques needed for X-ray pulsar based navigation in deep space.

There were several themes bandied about for this first Neon Sunrise anthology, but the one we kept coming back to was hope. In our current moment in human history it has seemed to be a lot darker and people are looking for something to help pull them through the muck and mire of this existence and provide a little bit of light in the midst of it all. As 2020 has unfolded, the feeling that hope was something we all desperately need a little more of became even more prevalent. Even so, this can feel like tricky business sometimes because hope can be somewhat slippery and nebulous. Does that mean I think hope is a bad thing? No, absolutely not. Hope is a warmth that we yearn for, and it's a light that we move towards. I don't think having hope is ever a vain thing to do. It's something that can keep pushing us forward and it can be the catalyst we need to get to the next stage. I heard it said somewhere - and can't remember where offhand - that as long as there is still light there is hope. That struck me because, with the rotation of the Earth, there is always light somewhere on the planet - therefore there is always hope. It's also where the title of the book comes into play (and yes, it is a nod to the song by the Smiths). - David Greshel (from the introduction)
