How can words spoken in the 6th century B.C. possibly speak into the lives of 21st century followers of Jesus? The book of Jeremiah is filled with prophesies, history, and promises of destruction. It's not the type of Bible book we usually choose for our devotional times. We want to identify with the heroes--the people who had no choice but to fight and of course, with help from God, succeed. This book puts us in a different place. This book asks us to see ourselves as villains. Jeremiah gives us little choice but to take an honest look at where we are in our life and in our walk with Jesus toward holiness. The book asks us to consider the sins we try so desperately to downplay or forget. As we walk through 40 years of Jeremiah's service to God we see Judah's desire to avoid repentance at all costs. Through Judah we can see our desire to live the life to which we've become accustomed. But we also see God's patience. His desire to see His children return to Him. We get a glimpse into God's heart for us. Through the book of Jeremiah we get a chance to see where we are falling short or flat-out disobeying--and we get a chance to respond; to respond with repentance to the God who offers us infinitely more patience than any of us deserve.Jeremiah: Responding to God is a chapter-by-chapter study through the Bible book of Jeremiah, providing context, commentary, and application points to help the reader understand and apply the lessons God is teaching us through the nation of Judah.

Have you ever wondered how life would be if the African Slave Trade never existed? Would there be such a high tolerance for hate and racism? Or the unnecessary fear or senseless killings of African Americans? JEREMIAH dares to explore the possibilities. This book of fantasy is a tale of brilliant child named Jeremiah Carmichael, born in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. He's lucky to have loving parents and a few members of the Black Panther party as close family friends to help guide him through the tough times. After witnessing firsthand, the hardships of the 1960's for Negros and once Jeremiah grasped what the African Slave Trade was about, he came to believe that's exactly what caused the demise of the Black man. And that constantly weighed heavily on his mind. Jeremiah is an unknown prodigy blessed with a God given gift of extraordinary knowledge. He creates a device which allows him to Time Travel and comes up with superb plan that includes Ancient African Kings and fearless warriors. With his strong beliefs and commitment, he's able to empower others to take a journey with him to right a horrible wrong. Jeremiah had grown to know if he truly wanted a better future, he had to leave his mark on the past. JEREMIAH was created as a great escapism and in hopes to inspire others for positive change and peace but not only for African American's-it should be shared with every race, across the entire world.

He was called before he could speak. He wept when others mocked. He burned with words no one wanted to hear. But he never stopped speaking. In a time of national collapse, spiritual rebellion, and political confusion, one man stood between the falling stones of a broken nation: Jeremiah, the weeping prophet with fire in his bones. Jeremiah: The Prophet Between the Cracks of a Broken Nation is a powerful and poetic journey through the life, anguish, courage, and calling of one of the most misunderstood prophets in Scripture. Through warnings of judgment, laments over a dying city, and promises of restoration, Jeremiah's voice echoes today with urgency and hope. From false prophets and burnt scrolls to yokes of submission and letters from exile, Damiano B. Centola guides readers into the heart of a man who stood alone-yet never apart from God. This is more than biography. It is prophecy revived. It is fire rekindled. It is a summons for a remnant generation. When the world ignores truth, God still calls prophets to speak. Will you listen?

Once upon a time there were three bears, seven dwarfs, five gorillas, a frog prince, some sleeping beauties, a wolf, a dinosaur, a mad hatter, a steamboat, four firemen on a fire engine, a considerable number of giant beanstalks – and a little boy named Jeremiah Obadiah Jackenory Jones.Jeremiah lives in the Dark Woods with his grandma, who is brave enough to fight off crocodiles with her bare hands and her handbag. But her legs aren’t so good, so when her jam tarts are stolen she sends Jeremiah into the woods to find the culprit… Another highly entertaining story from Janet and Allan Ahlberg, which will delight both children and parents

Jeremiah Horrocks The Transit of Venus
In 1627, Johannes Kepler had published his Rudolphine Tables and two years later he published extracts from the tables in his pamphlet De raris mirisque Anni 1631 which included an admonitio ad astronomos (warning to astronomers) concerning a transit of Mercury in 1631 and transits of Venus in 1631 and 1761. Horrocks' own observations, combined with those of his friend and correspondent William Crabtree, had convinced him that Kepler's Rudolphine tables, although more accurate than the commonly used tables produced by Philip Van Lansberg, were still in need of some correction. Kepler's tables had predicted a near-miss of a transit of Venus in 1639 but, having made his own observations of Venus for years, Horrocks predicted a transit would indeed occur.

Situated in the years leading up to the overthrow of Judah by the Babylonians, Jeremiah’s prophesies are set against a tense atmosphere of threat and invasion. Strongly warning of God’s judgment and the nation’s imminent catastrophe, Jeremiah lost credibility amongst his contemporaries as the years progressed, but the length of his book and the duration of his ministry establishes him as a major figure in the Old Testament. The fulfilment of his prophecies in later events of the Bible reassert the truth of his words and his speeches and prayers depict a God whose anger is a passionate response to the depths of love he feels for his people. Using personal anecdote, a witty and lively style, and drawing on his considerable theological knowledge, John Goldingay takes us deep into the unfolding story of the Old Testament.

Jeremiah, long considered one of the most colorful of the ancient Israelite prophets, comes to life in Jack R. Lundbom’s Jeremiah 1-20. From his boyhood call to prophecy in 627 b.c.e., which Jeremiah tried to refuse, to his scathing judgments against the sins and hypocrisy of the people of Israel, Jeremiah charged through life with passion and emotion. He saw his fellow Israelites abandon their one true God, and witnessed the predictable outcome of their disregard for God’s word – their tragic fall to the Babylonians. The first book of a three-volume Anchor Bible commentary, Jack R. Lundbom’s eagerly awaited exegesis of Jeremiah investigates the opening twenty chapters of this Old Testament giant. With considerable skill and erudition, Lundbom leads modern readers through this prophet’s often mysterious oracles, judgments, and visions. He quickly dispels the notion that the life and words of a seventh-century b.c.e. Israelite prophet can have no relevance for the contemporary reader. Clearly, Jeremiah was every bit as concerned as we are with issues like terrorism, hypocrisy, environmental pollution, and social justice. This impressive work of scholarship, essential to any biblical studies curriculum, replaces John Bright’s landmark Anchor Bible commentary on Jeremiah. Like its predecessor, Jeremiah 1-20 draws on the best biblical scholarship to further our understanding of the weeping prophet and his message to the world.

Formerly one of the largest and most militant Islamic organizations in the Middle East, Egypt's al-Gama'ah al-Islamiyah is believed to have played an instrumental role in numerous acts of global terrorism, including the assassination of President Anwar Sadat and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. In later years, however, the organization issued a surprising renunciation of violence, repudiating its former ideology and replacing it with a shari'ah-based understanding and assessment of the purpose and proper application of jihad. This key manifesto of modern Islamist thought is now available to an English-speaking audience in an eminently readable translation by noted Islamic scholar Sherman A. Jackson. Unlike other Western and Muslim critiques of violent extremism, this important work emerges from within the movement of Middle Eastern Islamic activism, both challenging and enriching prevailing notions about the role of Islamists in fighting the scourge of extremist politics, blind anti-Westernism, and, alas, wayward jihad.
