THE JOSH CARR SAGA continues with DARKNESS BEFORE THE DAWN, Rise of the Immortals, book two, the exciting conclusion to this unique duology and the third book in the Josh Carr series. It took Peter Dumas 400 years, but after stealing the Treaty of Tenochtitlan from Josh Carr and kidnapping his fianc Andie Keller, Dumas has found the tomb of Sheata, Earth's original vampire. Worse, he has managed to resurrect her from her seven hundred year imprisonment, and, in the process, turn the Living Spirit Warrior's betrothed into a vampire. As Dumas and Sheata begin to attack all of the Five Circles, Josh gambles everything to save his love. If he fails, the human race becomes no more than food, and any immortal that stands against them will be enslaved. No being on the planet will be safe from the self anointed king and queen. The scene is set for the epic battle of dark and Light. There will be no help from the Spirit World, and no help from the Nostians. If the grand experiment known as the human race is to continue, Josh must master the Power of the Light and it must shine brightly in the DARKNESS BEFORE THE DAWN.

A hilarious, warmhearted, and swoonworthy romance about two people who are definitely not dating...no matter how often they end up in bed together, from the New York Times bestselling authors of The Unhoneymooners and Love and Other Words. Hazel Camille Bradford knows she's a lot to take--and frankly, most men aren't up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don't send them running, her lack of filter means she'll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She's a good soul in search of honest fun. Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met--when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes--to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air. Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there's nothing between them...right?

A gifted and charismatic entertainer, Josh White (1914-1969) was one of the best-known folk-blues artists of his day. In the early 1960s, one survey ranked him as America's third most popular male folksinger, surpassed only by Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. He appeared on national television, performed at numerous college concerts and club dates, and released several dozen albums - all featuring his distinctive guitar style, supple voice and unique showmanship. In this biography, Elijah Wald traces White's journey from the ""coloured"" side of Greenville, South Carolina, to the heights of Manhattan cafe society. He explores the complexities of White's music, his struggles with discrimination and stereotypes, his political involvements, and his sometimes raucous personal life. White was always drawn to music and by the age of ten was leading blind blues and gospel singers around the South. By the 1930s he had become a blues recording star himself, and in the 1940s he was discovered by a white audience and regularly appeared in New York cabarets alongside such artists as Billie Holiday. He also became an outspoken proponent of civil rights and frequently appeared at rallies and benefits, singing songs against segregation. He was one of the few black figures to star on Broadway and appear in Hollywood films, the only black solo performer to have his own national tour, and a daring sex symbol with adoring fans on both sides of the colour line. In the 1950s, White won acclaim in Europe, then saw his achievements collapse in the polarized political ferment of the McCarthy era. Attempting to strike a balance that would keep his career afloat, he instead succeeded in alienating both political camps. Although still a star in England, he became the forgotten man at home until his resurrection in the folk revival.

During the first half of the twentieth century, Josh Gibson was a legendary figure among black baseball players, who were barred from playing in the major leagues. Perhaps baseball's greatest hitter, Gibson was known as "the black Babe Ruth." In this illuminating biography, William Brashler introduces an authentic American sports hero and recaptures the mood and style, the excitement and poignance of a world of black baseball that has vanished from the American scene. He traces Gibson's career from the sandlots and semi-pro teams of Pittsburgh, through his debut with the Homestead Grays in 1930, and on to his untimely death in 1947 at age thirty-five—the winter after Jackie Robinson broke through the minor leagues' color barrier. With 12 pages of black-and-white photographs. "Brashler has put together a balanced account that, while deflating some of the apocryphal tales of Gibson's exploits, brings him into clear focus as one of the outstanding baseball players of his era....He emerges here as a stoic figure...totally dedicated to baseball."—New York Times Book Review. "Brashler helps to cut through the legend of a moonfaced laughing giant and give us a sense of Josh's life, in and out of baseball."—New York Review of Books.
